Spa Mio by Mrs. V. I met my niece and two of her bridesmaids at Spa Mio at the M on the day of her wedding. I had my gift cards to use and wanted the bride to have a nice relaxing afternoon before the wedding.

I had scheduled an 80 minute deep tissue massage for myself, the bride was set up for a 50 minute massage and 50 minute facial – both part of the essential package, one bridesmaid had the mani-pedi package, and to be honest, I am not sure what package her maid of honor chose. We took plenty of time in the steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi area. Drank lots of water. I love this place.

I could see that some of the showers are starting to show their age. I have always been treated extremely well at Spa Mio. I have never had a preference for either a male or female therapist. I believe I have had the same person at least two times on my many visits and only had a male therapist once. The gal I had this time ended up being from Minnesota! Small world. She was amazing. Worked out all those knots in my shoulder area. I would get her again. She chatted for a bit before she began the massage and I learned that all the therapists have been with Spa Mio since they opened up. That means the employees are happy and well compensated. I feel the spa is a special treat and worth every penny. My 80 minute massage was $250 with the tip included.

I ran upstairs to Babycakes and got a four pack of the amazing cupcakes for the ride back to the DTG – I was driving us back. They took a Lyft there for like $26 bucks. The four pack was a variety of cupcakes. The bride got first pick and I was hoping the red velvet would be left for me - it was and I ate it back at the Grand. There was NO WAY I was eating and driving in Vegas.

I got the bride to Bombshell Beauty for her hair and make-up ten minutes late. She and her mother got treated by my SIL. The gal who was supposed to come to the hotel (a friend of the bride’s hairdresser back home) kept texting that she would be later and later. My SIL set up appointments for the bride and her mother a block away from the DTG at Bombshell and the bride cancelled the other person.

I will hopefully be able to take advantage of Spa Mio's black Friday sale again this year. The special - purchase $100 for $80 or something like that. Or purchase $100 get $120. I think it's the former. Either way - I plan to sweet talk Mr. V into staying in Vegas long enough (during our Thanksgiving trip) to get me a fresh gift card!

    WRAP UP:

Thursday night ended up going down for the last meal at FREEDOM BEAT. I tried some chicken wings and Mrs. V tried the tater tots and a Bloody Mary. The wings were good and the tots were interesting - free made them better. The wife was not a fan of the Bloody Mary.

Just when I thought I was out, the slots pulled me back in one more time as I played the wife’s FP with her. We hit a bonus on TEXAS TEA, SHARKNADOO, BUFFALO, and the NEW WONKA and ended up about $150. Then we spent some of our points on a citrus beach towel and DTG fan that hooks up to an iphone. After this, I went to bed as it was midnight.

The wife woke me up at 4:00 AM for the flight home at 7:15 a.m. She didn’t bother to go to bed and dropped a $100 more on some slots. We drove down Las Vegas Boulevard (so pretty this early in the morning with little traffic), filled the rental car up with gas, dropped the car off at the Alamo car rental garage and made it to the airport by 5:30. TSA went very fast and we were at are gate by 6:15 and were boarded by 6:45. The plane left on time. Got to Sioux Falls on time. My mom & dad picked us up. We took them out for dinner were home by 2:00 PM.

    Now to recap the trip:

Allegiant really sucks as an airline but we have few choices from Sioux Falls as a non-stop flight option. At least they were on time this time and they were cheap but flying with them again has convinced me to drive when we head out in November.

    The hotels:

ARIZONA CHARLIES DECATUR was much better than we thought it would be. The Sourdough Café was excellent and reasonable. The buffet was ok. Cocktail service was great. Comps easy to earn. The valet was very good. The room was a good size and clean. The shower was high and had plenty of pressure. There were cigarette burns on the nightstand and desk but we didn’t let that ruin our vacation. All in all, we would return to ACD.

EASTSIDE CANNERY - Snaps had the best food of the trip hands down. Everything we ate there was great. The room was large and clean. The shower tall and has good pressure. There was a wet spot on the carpet by the fridge – assuming it was from the fridge anyway. Never had this before at the ESC but I think the walls are thin. The couple on one side just couldn’t get enough of each other. The people on the other side brought their pet skunks along and must have been scaring them all night because they just kept spraying. All. Night. Long. The party never stopped. I have to admit Mrs. V took great pleasure in slamming the door as hard as she could as she came and went that morning. I mean, she threw her all her muscles into it and it rattled both sets of doors on either side of us. I think BOYD has ruined this casino - closed restaurants, sports book and bingo this has made for some unhappy employees. They were acting like it was sentence and not a job to be there. Except for the Snaps – these employees seemed happy and provided excellent service and food. I’ll say it again, Boyd Gaming killed the casino. There were signs that kept directing people over to Sam’s Town. ESC was empty every time we were in it, but hey, were able to park right in front so that was good for us.

DOWNTOWN GRAND - I do not understand their marketing. Every month we get an offer for 2 free week nights and $20 FP and $10 FB credit. I call our host about this and he said to just throw it in the trash, he will take care of it. He does. I cannot say enough good things about the job he does for us. Everything went off without a hitch. We really like it there. He does great job. After we were on our way home, we were talking about all the stuff we got at the DTG. We now feel that we were probably under comped at the EL CORTEZ. We really don’t track our gambling but we did not think we played more here than the ELCO, we just play what we feel like playing. We try not to chase comps, but we do concentrate our play where we stay. I feel that is fair for the stuff we get. We had a suite on the 18th floor – a really nice room. The shower was tall, but not the best pressure. On the downside, the room would not get under 72 degrees and we called to have someone look at it twice. (The ESC & ACD had better AC). We had to rent a fridge ($15 a day – it ended up being comped). The food was good at Freedom Beat every time we ate there. Everyone in the wedding party liked the food and thought it was reasonably priced. We had 12 rooms for the wedding party and everyone seemed happy with the rooms and the price. We all were in the same tower.

For the seven day trip we were all in for less than $3500 - can’t get much better than that.

    BEST ROOM: ESC

    BEST FOOD: SNAPS

BEST BUFFET: PARADISE at the FREMONT

    BEST GAMBLING: DTG

    BEST BINGO: SANTA FE STATION

    BEST SPORTS BOOK: JERRYS NUGGET

BEST PRIME RIB: SOURDOUGH CAFÉ @ ARIZONA CHARLIES DECATUR.

Thanks for following along if you have any questions feel free to ask,

    THANKS,

    MR. & MRS. VEGAS.
