    My Trip Report

Mrs flyguy and I drove over to Biloxi Sunday for two nights at the Beau Rivage. Since she had been having some back problems we only planned two nights and split the 8 hour drive back into two days.

Driving over was very pleasant until we came within 20 miles from Mobile, AL. All the sudden the traffic on the interstate came to a dead stop. We thought there had been an accident but it was simply heavy traffic backed up from a two lane tunnel under part of the bay at Mobile. So the last 80 miles were difficult after the long drive earlier. We were happy to get to the Beau and check in.

After doing the luggage drill, we made our way to the Breeze Bar for a couple of cold drinks and some VP play. I have to say their VP pay tables are worse than ever. On one side of the bar playing the same game as on the opposite side a full house paid 15 credits where the other side paid 20. Four of a kind paid 20. Mrs flyguy prefers VP but hates to lose and it is hard to not with those pay tables. Her first spin produced a straight flush and she was up $30 right off. She almost exclusively played VP as the slots were unkind to her.

We played VP and slots for about three hours and she retired to the room to take a hot shower, have some wine from the fridge (we brought a couple of small bottles), read and watch some TV. BTW the Beau has super showers that produce almost instant hot water and very high flow and pressure rates.
I stayed down and played penny through dollar slots concentrating on new themed ones. The place was packed. Many locals were there since they came to the show modeled after CDO performances. The parking garage was full and kids were all over the place. We had comp tickets for this show Monday evening (6 August)

As far as gambling I was up/down and ended the night ahead around a hundred.

Monday I was still on EST and was up at 0430 local which is my regular time. Mrs flyguy was sleeping so I got a shave, shower and dressed in my clothes from Sunday. I had intended to introduce Mrs flyguy to Craps but she needed her rest.
The casino was deserted so I could choose any game I desired. I did start with some VP and losing while I had a terrible cup of coffee and Baileys. I was soon off to slots like Buffalo Gold, Lightning Links, Walking Dead and others that were normally busy. I started out losing but soon hit a hot streak and cashed out $325 from a Walking Dead with a $20 bill in. Later I came back to that same slot and repeated the win at $285.
Feeling pretty good I rook the elevator up to our room and chatted with a guy on the elevator who showed me about $8000 in chips. He was very pleased. The chips he showed me were vastly different colors than those I normally play with like black, green, red and white.

Finding Mrs flyguy up we discussed our plans for the day which included meeting some local friends for lunch and seeing the show that evening. We picked a time and then went down to the casino where we both got a great coffee and Baileys and played more VP. I wanted to show her a new Lightning Links clone called Dragon Links that I had done well on with frequent bonuses and got up to 14 squares filled twice. She did not fare well while I had another bonus round and she departed for the VP machines again. After one more bonus I joined her.

Then we took the elevator ride up to our room where we both got ready for our luncheon engagement with our friends in Gulfport and soon departed on the 9 mile ride to see them.
The Italian meal was very tasty and we reminisced about our time together at a USAF base. Will gave Mrs flyguy a copy of his latest book and an emergency noise making device that scares off bad actors. (Will has written 31 books that were published). After a leisurely meal we went our separate ways with vows to meet again soon.

We decided to drive to Ocean Springs to find book for Mrs flyguy as I had rushed her out and she left one she had intended to read behind. At the same time we refueled the car and stopped off at Harrah’s to collect two new slot cards they give to military types. These are also upgrades to Platinum if you are a lower tier.

Upon returning to the Beau Rivage we played some more slots and I did some time at a Let It Ride table where my play resulted in a slow bleeding of funds. Then before long it was time to get ready for the 7pm show. We dressed and went down to find our comped seats which were the third row from the front. The show was very entertaining and diverse. It catered to all ages and they had some children from the audience participate as well as some adults. Mrs flyguy refused to watch the aerial trapeze acts where there was no net or safety lines and much tossing women around in the air some 40 feet or more above the floor. Thankfully all survived with no falls.

After the show Mrs flyguy head to the Breeze Bar for more VP and a glass of wine while I made my way to the slot club area. On the way there I was passing a row of Wheel Of Fortune slots when a lady asked me why she didn’t get to spin the wheel since she had the three symbols. She thought the slot was broken. I looked and looked again and she has lined up three of the symbols that were not multi-colored while playing max bet. Those were the progressive symbols and I told her she had won a lot of money. In fact the Call Attendant note said she had won $1,245,7XX dollars. I said don’t touch anything and a crowd began to gather. I leaned over and asked her if she was married in a joking way and she replied Not Tonight! People were taking pictures and video on their cells. Soon a slot attendant appeared and I heard her speak into her mike that she had a million dollar hit on slot XXX. That is when I left.
I am sure it took a number of hours for the to examine the machine, get the gambling commission involved and whatever they do so I drifted off and met Mrs flyguy at the VP bar. She was surprised the woman didn’t act more excited but I put that off to her being in mild shock.

Mrs flyguy went up to the room to do some packing as we had decided to only stay two nights and leave around noon on the third day. Breaking up the trip home proved smart as Mrs flyguy was still having some back pain and I didn’t relish another long driving day. So I got as much luggage as possible into the car that evening. (Funny how I can ravel alone with a small bag and a hang up bag and as a couple we have two suitcases, hang up bag, beauty case, bag of soft drinks/water, books, dirty clothing bag and sweaters.)

The next morning we slept to 8am and got cleaned up. I finished taking things to the car. We checked our bankrolls and I was up about $400 and Mrs flyguy was up a little less than $100. We went down to the 24 hour café, the Terrace Café, for breakfast. I had a large club sandwich and she had a very large piece of chocolate cake.

Then we made our way to the casino to use free play. She played $60 worth on dollar VP and won $64. I took $110 free play to a five dollar Pinball and played one then two credits and was lucky enough to hit the pinball spin bonus twice at the four shot level. Those bonuses awarded me something like $845 dollars. I put that into a slot along with some uncashed TITO slips and consolidated them and then collected the cash.

We hit the road then checking out on the way to the garage and thankfully the traffic was much better on the return. We stopped about 3pm for a meal about 30 miles from our hotel for the night just west of Tallahassee. Soon we were checking in for the last night of the trip. After getting into the room, we checked our funs and I had $1,045 dollars more than I took. That was after spending about $100 in non comped food and tips. Mrs flyguy had $108 more than she took. We marked the trip a success.

After a good night’s sleep and then a late breakfast at the hotel we finished up the trip home. It was a fun trip (always seem fun when you win) and much needed since our other travel from May on had been for work of some type.

I know kind dull without the photos but made memorable by seeing such a big slot win in person.

Sounds like you had a good trip, hope the wife gets better. We will be there in a couple of weeks also enjoying the Beau and Scarlet Pearl.
What are the military benefits from Harrahs you mentioned, we haven't heard a thing about it.

All the casinos seem to have sports betting now that the Mississippi gaming commission approved it. At the Beau it is near the new poker room.

The Beau and Harrah's both give you a special slot card after you prove active service or show a DD214. They both jump you up one tier from the basic--Pearl for Beau and Platinum for Harrah's. You get those benefits. I think the Beau gives that status for life but I'm not sure about Harrah's. I know the Beau gives half price buffets on Monday to military and they get a lot of Keesler AFB people in. Most of their shows also include a recognition of the military in their introductions.

Enjoyed the report. Nice wins and got to see a life changing event on WoF.

Will be at the Beau over Labor Day weekend. Travel there often. You are correct, VP at the Breeze Bar is strange. Gotta look at every machine pay outs. The same games on each side of the bar, and different return is mind boggling. However, I just enjoy sitting at the bar and playing, the premium hands are worth trying.

I usually find myself at the DDB quarter progressives near the no smoking area most of the time.

    Thanks for report.

You could have told the WoF girl, "Maybe you should go find a slot attendant. I'll sit in your seat while you're gone." :D

I think I will try those DDB machines you favor next time. I like the Breeze Bar since I know most of the chief bartenders. I'm sure you know Jack moved to Vegas.

Given from what I have heard about the Beau's VP from several on various forums, there is a good chance the Deuces game with the full house paying 15 (96.77%) pays better than the one where the full house pays 20. If they cut the wild royal to 100, quints to 50, and straight flush to 40, that's a 95.96% payback. But it's important to notice the difference though. If full houses pay 20, and you have no deuces, you should hold two pair, and if flushes pay 15 instead of 10, you should hold four to a flush over a pair with no deuces.

Nice report! And crazy to see that WoF hit! Too bad it wasn't you!

Thanks for the info trig. I think the wild royal was 125 and quints 80. I know the straight flush was 60. Don't know the frequency of 4 deuces on the deal but I got three many a time and didn't score the fourth. I would guess the chance of drawing the fourth was one in 46.

This is what is mind boggling about the Breeze Bar. One machine at the bar pays 125 for a “dirty royal” in DW, while another pays 100. Gotta be careful or you might screw up, like I did last trip after a drink or two.

Thanks for the TR flyguy. I know that had to be pretty exciting as y'all looked at that winning jackpot. Still, it sounds like y'all had a good time overall. Winning seems to make it easier to have a good time. Congratulations. Give me a heads up the next time you come up here. I can be at the Beau in about 10-12 minutes depending on the traffic. (unless I am up at the lake) I am pretty sure that I am going to go down and get qualified for the Beau's slot tourney later this month. It is one of those "get 300 points today and play" tournys but heck, they still have a 50K prize pool so why not ?
