    My Trip Report

It's that time again, going to Vegas tomorrow night! Yay palm trees!

Something is telling me to keep my expectations low on this trip. Maybe because I win when that happens. It's an unusually short visit, which sucks, but I couldn't get more time off from work. Last Summer was fun but really an ass-kicking, gaming-wise. This past Winter's trip was ok, but dinged my bankroll slightly due to outrageously bad pai gow hands. I am used to winning in general at my local. That being said, I'm still gonna play all my games, including pai gow poker, but dammit it would be nice to book a win this time. Hopefully I won't turn into a trained chimp again with the slots, pushing buttons and hoping for the best. Know thyself...

I do expect to get some overpriced drinks. And some carbs! I've been on a diet since Thanksgiving, and I've had no booze for a month, not including my birthday (yesterday). That was a good reminder to not drink too much in Vegas, blurg. I can't drink as much as I once could, which is fine, since many Vegas drinks cost 2x as much as they do at home. Needless to say, the diet is on hold during my time off. A visit to the Aria buffet is probably in the works. We also plan to hit Bond and the Chandelier, and we usually drift over to Vesper at some point too. Bring it!

As usual for my Summer trip, I'm meeting my BFF and her husband out there. They have a free night or two to use up at Cosmopolitan. They are arriving ahead of me, so they'll have some time alone, without their "emotionally disabled adult adopted daughter", which is kind of how I see my role in our decades old friendship. I was due to arrive around midnight, but the airline keeps playing around with the departure time, so it could be as late as 1am, which will be 4am in Boston. Since I get up at 5am most days, maybe I will sleep on the flight and arrive ready to rumble!

After Vegas, I'm visiting for a few days in Michigan, so we might visit another tiki bar in Detroit. In case anyone is interested in cross-country mai tais, I'll briefly report on that too.

When I was planning hard, I made some lists, but at the end of the day I really don't know what I'll do. I'm hoping it will be delicious and profitable and not tragic and/or stupid. Gonna try and stay centered, not get to overly anything, calm blue ocean, one with the universe, etc.

The only tickets we purchased are for Opium on Wednesday night. Other hard "yes" things include Frankie's Tiki Room and Nine Fine Irishmen. Black and Blacks! I also want to see the open air part of Chateau in Paris, which is just across the way, so we might do that after Opium. We also have loose plans (well, I made these plans, it's now a matter of conning others into joining me) for Intrigue and some dayclub at Cosmo, but usually what happens is we remember how old and lazy we are, and we go to the places that the grumpy old people go.

So that's it! I leave after a full day at work, so I get to give the psychic FU to everyone (all in good fun of course, I like most of the people I work with a lot) and then take the Jetblue direct. I have a book or two, and I downloaded a movie, so if I can't sleep on the flight, I should be entertained at least.

If any of you have followed my past reports, you know I take frequent yet really bad camera phone pictures. That tradition will continue. I will bring my point and shoot too, so I should have a good post-trip photo dump, to inspire me to book my next one, and maybe inspire you as well.

Soon the plingy-pling slot machine sounds will be in my head! My brother thinks the Heidi Bier Haus slot bonus rounds sounds like the intro to "They Saved Hitlers Brain" so I'll leave you with that. Until tomorrow!

Have a great trip! I just returned from Vegas myself - need to find some time to write it up.

Oh, and I love the Slap Shot reference!

yeah I tried to post the gif but it wouldn't work. I usually have one "I am not here right now" meditation moment, mid-casino, each trip.

through tsa & absurdly early. Airport is quiet which is a nice change.

I couldn't put this book down so I brought it with me. I'm gonna be so pissed if I finish it before we hit Nevada. [IMG][IMG]
