Any one going to watch a little of the main event this week? I think I get in tonight to Vegas so will probably swing by tomorrow or Wednesday to check the excitement!

And, on a related subject, is the Main Event being shown on any platform other than PokerGo?

I know I'm able to record 4 to 6 hours daily as they are playing it on one of the ESPN channels starting this evening.

Yep. I saw that in today's newspaper. (Yes, I still subscribe.) Just set the "record" function on the TV.

The coverage is more extensive than in past years. Thanks ESPN!

I went by the WSOP main event on 7/4. It's great walking into that big room and all you hear is the clinking of chips.

Saw Greg Raymer sitting down for a tournament while there in June. Bumped into Will Kassouf at O’Shea’s also.

AA vs KK vs KK 10-handed happens about 1 in 70,000 times. What an insane way to finalize the final 9.

Texas Rock asked on May 20th; How about a thread to track all of the VMB Poker Players who are participating in some of the 78 official World Series of Poker/other Las Vegas events?
I think it will be great to track events scheduled to play, notable table experiences (playing with notable professionals), meetup opportunities (to share bad beat stories), and of course RESULTS (how great it will be to see VMB'ers cashing / playing a final table / winning a bracelet in one of these prestigious tournaments!!!).

Does anybody have any stories to share?

When watching the Main Event tonight on ESPN, I will have to be cheering for one of my hometown peeps, Michael Dyer, so far I think that he is playing pretty well.
Have you noticed that all of the remaining final six players in the Main Event are from the United States? I do believe that the U.S. players have an advantage, not having to deal with the International travel and such.
Last night on the ESPN televised portion, I think that they stated that 1,300 of the 7,800 players in the Main Event were from California and/or Nevada and that none of them made it to the final table.

I also have a question for all of the WSOP players.
In which tournament do you think that you get the most play/value for your money such as starting chips, level duration, blind structure, etc...?
I like the Freeze Outs like the Monster Stack at $1,500, you get 15,000 in chips with 60 minute blinds starting at 25/50.
I was also looking at the Marathon ($2,620/26,200 chips/100 min.) and a couple of the Double stack ($1,000/10,000 chips/60 min.) tournaments.
I am not a fan of the re-buy tournaments (I do not like playing a tournament for a couple of hours and then it becomes a push-fest).Does anybody have a preference on what day a tournament starts on?

Just throwing some thoughts out there.
    Good Luck to everybody.

If the international players are pros who stay for the whole series (or most of it), by the time the main event comes around in July, they're adjusted to the time zone and don't really have any jetlag or travel issues to deal with (at least until they're leaving again). So not sure I buy the travel comment - in every year I can recall, there were multiple countries/continents represented at the final table. This year happens to be all Americans, possibly for the first time in a while (haven't checked, gut feeling from what I recall in the past).

I think in general the other tournament series give you better play/value for the $ than WSOP does. WSOP standard is 5x your buy-in is your chip stack (10x for monster/double stack events). So a $1500 buy-in is a 7500 chip event - not very many chips relatively. Look at Venetian Deep Stack, where $400 or $600 get you 25k - 40k starting stacks ... or PH Goliath, and Wynn Summer Classic that do similar big stack events often (when you get past the less expensive daily events). The websites Marky was linking for everyone prior to the series show S-scores for every tournament, which is a numerical score that calculates the value for you, based on buy-in, chip stack, and levels.

I agree with TRN's comments regarding value, there are certainly better tournaments out there to play from a starting chip stack and S-points perspective, however, there is really nothing that compares to playing in an event at the Rio during the WSOP.

This year was my third year that I entered at least one WSOP tourney (The $1,000 Senior NLHE event where I made my first cash in 347th place this year - a ,$1,500 bounty NLHE event last year where I got a single bounty but no cash, and a $1,500 'regular' NLHE tourney in 2016 where I didn't last until the first break - damn A,Q suited :) ).

I also played in tournaments at the Planet Hollywood and The Venetian while I was in Vegas in June. There is no comparison in the atmospheres between the electricity in the rooms at the Rio compared to the PH tournaments that are upstairs in a dark area where it feels like you are going to be asked at anytime to stand up and help move the tables so they can start setting up for a conference or something, or the Venetian Deepstack where you felt like you were sitting in an airplane hanger (after walking the mile and a half from the Poker room to the tournament area).

There is nothing better than the WSOP in my opinion.

It is easy to find a WSOP tournament that suits you regardless of your bankroll, game preference or even your travel schedule, and I cannot recommend strongly enough to anybody who has ever considered playing in one that they should do it.

Yes, it is important to check the structure of WSOP tourneys. There are good ones. But they have f-ed the women's structure, I refuse to play.

Interesting last night my brother is watching the final table & texting me his impressions. (we had just gotten back from dinner so were just starting the DVR of it). He was NOT impressed with the play. I thought he was overreacting (and he was, to a point)--he is a much more aggressive player than I. He was saying this wasn't like the final tables of old, they are a bunch of pansies, a true poker player wouldn't worry about the money (I TOTALLY disagreed with that).

But after watching, I agree that there was some too passive play going on. Both my husband and I agreed. I know $1.8M to $8.8M is a HUGE jump, and simply sticking around as a person busts out is a significant payday, but, this is more passive than I've ever seen at any final table in ANY tourney (any prize pool...). Dyer is using his chip stack, but not nearly as aggressive as he could. Cynn & Minion (sp?) are both WAY too passive. Cynn really needs to open his range. Cada I get--short stacked, stay out of the way, shoving with pairs, high cards (and he was pretty card dead). Actually have a bit more to watch...

I may be biased but I feel like if I was in this final table I would be running over everyone. It is one of the most ZZZZ boring tables I've ever watched. I'm glad they're moving quickly (announcers keep giving kudos for not constantly tanking every hand) because if they were playing this passive and tanking every hand, I'd be watching some other channel :) I fell asleep before they knocked out #4 and got down to the final 3 last night... was not surprised at results this morning though.

    Some specific observations/opinions:
    • Dyer blew a HUGE chip lead on some marginal calls, he deserves 3rd now imo. He's also not "good for TV" and doesn't have a great story like others... so I don't expect him to get much love from ESPN unless he somehow takes this thing down.
    • Cynn is fun to watch play. I really enjoyed the Cada hand where Cada jammed with KQcc (only holding king high at the end) after missing flush draw or any pair, and Cynn with JT had to snap fold (after 3-betting the turn with nothing). That's about the best hand I recall from the past couple days now. But I enjoy seeing some of the things Cynn does (e.g. flatting with KK or making some interesting calls/raises)... maybe it's just relative to the ABC boring play the rest of the table demonstrates.
    • Miles probably wins, he has a good story with the drug rehab (similar to Greg Merson when he won) and they will play up the human interest part of the story as much as they can now.

    Wow;
I haven’t been following; but I did watch when Joe Cada won in 2009; it’s great to see a former ME winner make it deep in the final table again! (That hasn’t happened in a while right?)

There have been a few recent final table repeats but not winner making another final table appearance the next year. I believe there was a trivia question last night about who the only back-to-back WSOP main event winners were, and it's been a while since it's happened (back when the tournament had like 200 entrants or less).
Stu Ungar, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Moss, and Johnny Chan are the only back to back main event winners, and the largest field they had to beat was 167 (Chan in '88). However we've seen a few names make the final tables in back-to-back years recently - just not win (I forget who - I think Ben Lamb and Mark Newhouse are two of them, but I think there's a couple more too).

Today the final 3 play down to the winner. I believe it starts up again at 5:30PM (Vegas time).

Dan Harrington went B2B final tables in 03/04 I think. He is the man! But Cada is amazing and I was rooting for him. I think Cynn is the most creative player left and will win.

Dyer had no one on his rail... cant understand it.

If I was at that final table, you can bet I'd have every family member, friend, and VMB buddy there (funded by me obviously)... we'd take over that room. @WelshBlonde would get VIP seating at the table with me.

He looked very socially awkward... My step-daughter (who doesn't understand poker at all and is only over because she overfilled the dryer and her clothes won't dry) said that "Maybe with over $3million, he can buy some friends".
