So on an upcoming Vegas trip, I will be making a side trek across the California state line for a little hiking. I have never made that drive down I-15. Is there anything in Primm or Jean worth stopping to see? I suspect it may be the only time I am ever on that stretch of road

Not really. Go to Pahrump. Now that's interesting.

I've done Pahrump and seven magic mountains multiple times. Plus, Pahrump is not near where I am going.

Is the death car the real thing? Or just a replica?

Is the Bonnie and Clyde exhibit back there? It was "on tour" last time we visited.

If it's there, it is the real thing. Complete with shredded bloodstained shirt and a bunch of other stuff.

Goodsprings is where Clark Gable waited for news of the plane crash containing his loved one. The saloon has a room dedicated to them. It also has chicken shit bingo, if you are so inclined.

It was the real thing when I was there, but that was ages ago. Check to make sure it's still there. The Desperado is a fun coaster. I would say stop in Primm over Jean if you want to get out and take a look around. Primm Valley is the nicest casino of the trio and Buffalo Bill's is right next door. There's a little tram that takes you across the freeway to Whiskey Pete's.

Calico Ghost Town and the Calico Early Man Site (archaeological site) are both a short distance off the I-15. Not sure how much time you want to spend out there.

If it's hot out, that big thermometer in Baker is a good photo stop.

Yeah, there's not a lot to see out there. :haha:

I guess you were being literal when you said "slide across the state line". Then my vote is for a wander around Primm.

If you are on 15 near Jean around meal time, skip the casino and turn onto 161 (Goodsprings Rd), 10 minutes down the road is the Pioneer Saloon. The burgers are excellent!

I just read the worlds largest chevron station is opening there(well one article said it’s open and another said this fall), it actually sounds kinda fun but I sure wouldn’t go just for it! I was thinking of visiting jean next trip just for the hell of it, check out the casinos there and also the seven magic mountains. I’ll look it up but pahrump isn’t really close at all is it?? Gotta add, I wasn’t impressed with the pioneer saloon at all and I love historic bars AND dive bars.....

I was in both Primm and Jean Nevada once, at this same time of year in 2013. I like to visit Mt. Charleston several times on my trips (if the OP is planning to hike, THAT is a great place full of various levels of trails) and I was up there on July 4th of that year when the Carpenter One Wildfire started on Mt. Charleston. I literally saw the wisps of smoke starting to rise over the mountains but didn't realize it was the beginning of a wildfire. The mountain was evacuated for the entire rest of my stay (and beyond) and being that I was there for nearly two weeks, I started looking for other places to explore. I decided to visit Pahrump (a series of very sketchy locals casinos along the main road) then checked out Primm and stopped at Jean on the way back.

Primm (formerly known as Stateline, Nevada because it is literally on the California/Nevada state line - you can stand in both states at the same time) is literally right off !-15. You can't miss it - there are casinos on both sides of the highway exits so you will see all the casinos even before you hit the exit. If you are passing anyway, it's worth a look. I did see the Bonnie & Clyde death car encased in plexiglass when I was there, along with Clyde's framed bullet-ridden shirt and some of Bonnie's clothes too. There was one of those souvenir penny machines where you could put a few quarters in and get a flattened embossed Death Car penny. Yes, I got several of them lol There is also a lottery store on the California side that does a ton of business because you can't buy lottery tickets in Nevada (I'm sure the state doesn't want people diverting their gambling funds away from the casinos) so people from Nevada flock there to get scratch offs, Mega Millions and Powerball tickets. I spent six whole minutes in California at that lottery store.

On the way back I stopped at The Gold Strike casino in Jean - just another typical locals casino, nothing remarkable about it. The only other thing I recall in Jean were signs for a nearby prison. Ummmm...no thank you! I peeled out of there and went back to The Strip!
