This board software allows a way for you to block posts from users you choose. This will not block people who reply to that poster, but will exclude their posts from your feed.

There are two ways to do this:

If you go to the top of the board, below the search bar, and click on your username, a drop down menu will appear. One of the options on the right side of the menu will be "People You Ignore". Click on that and it will open a new window to show you the users you already ignore. At the top is a box where you can type in their username (the board will auto-fill the username if you're not sure of the full name) and click "Save Changes".

An easier way is when you are viewing a thread, you can click on that user's member card (their username and avatar on the left). When the card pops up, you will see some link options - "Profile Page - Trip Reports - Start a Conversation - Follow - Ignore" Click on Ignore and that user will be blocked from appearing in your feed. To undo this option, click that link again, it now should show as "Unignore".

UPDATE: I just linked this this thread elsewhere and wanted to expand on why the Ignore Tool is less than perfect. When you ignore someone, you won't see their posts in threads anymore. You may see other people quoting their posts and replying to their posts. So it doesn't vaporize them quite like a block on social media, but it cuts down on a lot of things you have decided you don't want to see. I'm constantly looking for something better to do this, but at this point our current software is old enough that people have stopped developing new add-ons for it.

There is a similar process to follow a user. In the first example, pick "People I follow". In the second example, click on their member card and select Follow.

LOL! Yeah, this isn't a secret message or anything. Someone mentioned the ability to do it in a conversation earlier and it was a reminder that I wanted to add it to the FAQ months ago and forgot.

Great feature. with a group this size there are bound to be personality conflicts. This can solve the issue before it boils out onto the forums.

Is there a threshold where Mods would look at a poster on too many ignore lists?

I'm asking for a former friend

This is a very friendly board. Are there people who just can't move on and not read a poster that you may not agree with? Do you need a block feature?

Isn't the point of the ignore feature to avoid reading posts of someone you disagree with? It's easier than scrolling past a post.

    It's a slippery slope.
    Today it's an "ignore" function.
    Tomorrow it's an entrance exam.

I think it's a good option and works well in short term situations. It's not necessarily permanent, but a choice.
It's probable that some folks may be ignoring my posts all the time and I'm okay with that.

So what are you saying? The dinner wasn’t the highlight of your trip after all? Ok. I bailed for dancing in the streets of Fremont but really?? I’m disappointed. I didn’t wear the flamingo shirt, you did. I would’ve but no one invited Me to do so or even be prepared. Dancing. On Fremont Street. Not me. But you knew what kind of guy that shirt would attract.
So you aren’t even getting the 500+ pm’s I’ve been sending. Fun way to find out!!

See. Apparently I’m a nice guy. Even I’m surprised but still.

    This.

just makes it easier than to consciously look for a name/pic and keep scrolling past.

Can I block my own posts? I can’t get along with me and don’t want to start a fight.

No, we get no report when someone is added to any ignore lists. I'm not even sure there is a way to search for it on the admin side of things.

If someone is a problem, the report feature is your best bet to let the moderators know. Either report any problem post or I believe there is a report user option from a user's profile page.
I don't, but the software comes with one and someone asked if it was available so I started this thread.
