We were just watching Pawn Stars last night and wondering how he might be
doing in retirement. Sad to hear. :( I always got a kick out of him on the show.

    :(

I'm really not a regular viewer of the show, but I sometimes watch when I'm channel surfing. He was quite the character. RIP!

He'll be missed. I thought he was older than his 77 years.

RIP, sir. I was lucky enough to be on site during a taping of the show. The "old man" and Corey were there handling the transactions during filming. Neither one interacted with customers, but Richard seemed more than willing to do what he was instructed to do by the production crew.

None of the "stars" were there when we visited. There was no line and we just walked in. The one thing I did notice was that the prices on the things I knew the approximate street prices of were WAAAaaaayyyyy high!

Yeah, he added something to the show. Thing is, though, all reality TV is far from reality, but this show was entertaining. Kinda like antiques road show for the bizarre.
If he was 77....well, I always figured he was much older than that. RIP.

Sad. Lots of folks love to rip on the show, but his cranky old guy persona was great, no matter if scripted or from the hip.

Sorry to hear that. As @saintpauljeff stated, his cranky, gruff persona added to the show. Pawn Stars, when mentioned, often gets knocked-around here on the VMB. I had the chance to watch Rick, Corey and Chum several years ago interact with people at the Reno/Tahoe airport. This was a few years after the show had become a hit. It was an early Sunday morning flight back to Vegas and for those of you who don't know the Reno/Tahoe airport is small for an International. The Pawn Stars guys walked up and I overheard them talking about how they should've gone to bed earlier... they looked like they'd been up all night. When they were recognized, they were immediately approached by autograph and picture seekers, who in many cases were a bit pushy and rude (imagine that with the general public?). The guys were pleasant, polite and accommodating to each and every person, even though it was obvious they were "hurting". I kinda think the old man would've been as well.

I enjoyed his love of cars, especially when he bought the Chrysler Imperial for himself. He was old school.

Bummer - he was always my favorite on the show. I too thought he was quite a bit older than 77.

We were in the store a couple of years after the show began (how long ago was that?), and the old man walked out and said, "anybody want some pictures?" I got my pic taken with him, and he autographed a fridge magnet for my wife. (The marker wasn't permanent, so the ink has smudged some!) I too thought he was older than 77.
