So I'm curious as I've lost machines before while taking a bathroom break. Is it acceptable to lean the chair up against the machine if you are planning on coming directly back? Does this work? I know bartenders can save seats for you but on the floor I wonder if its possible or even acceptable.

    Its possible, but not gaurenteed.

Trouble is not everyone knows why a chair is tipped.

I didn't till this year and have sat in them before.

Plus some people do know, and still sit there anyway.

So worth a try maybe? But may not work.

Did not know this. Good to know.
Too bad you can't set a machine to be yours for like 5 minutes on reserve.

the chair method is supposed to work, but sometimes it is not respected.
you can push the service button and ask the attendant to lock out your machine for a reasonable period of time.
sometimes they will do it for a bathroom break or even a meal break..

People may disagree but for me, the only thing you can do is cash out, take your break, and take your chances that the machine will still be available. Because nobody can possibly know if you left it a minute ago or an hour ago.

When nature calls, I figure it's about time to change machines anyway. I've occasionally held machines for those who have gone to take a bio break.

The combination of (1) tilting the seat (2) leaving your players card in the machine and (3) leaving a small amount of money in the machine has worked for me.

I would only do a 5-10 minute bathroom break (not a dinner). I only do this if I can’t get the staff to lock up the machine first.

Tilting the seat is common and will usually work at least long enough for a bathroom break and it's hard to see anybody really having a big problem with that. But if a slot attendant or a player who wants to use the machines notice that the chair's been set like that for a while, they may just pull it back. Or some people just won't know what it means. And there's no doubt some people who just don't like the practice and will pull the chair down and not even use the machine, lol.

If there's a certain machine I really want to play and it's the only one of its kind in the place, I'll normally walk past and take a look at how many credits the player has - a lot of times you can estimate how fast they'll bust out. And I'll go somewhere else within range and play, but keep an eye on the machine at the same time.

If I saw someone tilt the chair and leave, I'd wait probably at least 15 - 20 mins. Bathroom break, OK, going back to the room for money, OK. Meal break, no. Half an hour, I'm taking the seat.

You can ask a slot attendant to stand by a machine for a bathroom break or lock it down if you need longer than that.

I've never understood saving a machine until my last trip when I got on a crazy long roll. Luckily my husband was around so I made him keep watch while I went. Otherwise, I likely would have called the slot attendant.

I've seen slot attendants "guarding" a machine for someone before. But my preferred method is to make one of my kids sit and stare at my machine (do NOT push a button, son, do you hear me? do NOT push) while I visit the facilities

have a piece of paper in your pocket that says.

I don't like nobody touching my machine . So just keep your meat-hooks off. If I catch any of you guys in my seat, I'll kill you. .

Sadly, all three of my sons are well over 21. They were much easier and cheaper to take to Vegas with me when they weren't.

I feel this method would work ...... and it wouldn't hurt to maybe prick your finger and smudge a bit of blood on it .... I like it. My sons may be off the hook in the future.

    I would:

1)Press the service button and continue playing.
2)When the slot attendant arrives, ask them how you could save the seat.
    3)Tip as appropriate

Are you dirty filthy rich? If so, hire personal security to stand by your seat and scare off people who attempt to play your machine.

If not, try what others in this thread have suggested.

We all know, or should know, that the machines are controlled by the random number generator. But, that doesn't mean a machine can't go on an abnormal run and be paying out more then the average. Happens all the time, unfortunately in the other direction also to balance out those wins. If I'm lucky enough to stumble on a hot one, you better believe I'm saving it. napkin, chair, drink or a towel from the bartender to cover it. Or, all of the above. :D

Thanks all. Just didnt want to do the chair tip and be violating some unspoken rule. A few places only have a handful of full pay VP machines and I hate having to kill time waiting for one to open. Certainly wouldnt hold a machine for longer than a bathroom break. I've seen people at the historical racing machines up and Red Mile in Lexington leave jackets on machines claiming that its "their machines" for days even when they weren't there. I know that's not cool and why they let people do that is beyond me.

Chair tipping is considered acceptable pretty much everywhere—-but may be ignored by other patrons.

If you have any sort of elite card most slot attendants will be willing to “lock down” the machine for you—how long depends on where you are.
