I'm there December 17th and I'll try $20 booked in a double bed Mardi Gras. See if I can get a newly renovated room. Should be slower at that time

    Worked for me.

Had a Mardi Gras single King booked this past weekend. At the counter I did the sandwich with a $20, desk person didn't blink an eye. After a couple minutes, she asks if we were looking to upgrade and I said yes. She leaves for a few minutes then comes back and says they do have a suite available. Ended up being strip view in the Mardi Gras tower. Not sure what it is called, as I don't find it on their site. Had a living room area with a wet bar and fridge, sofa, arm chair, coffee table, and other small table with 2 chairs. then double doors into the bedroom. Bathroom had a large bathtub and separate walk in shower. So whichever one that is. Not bad for the $20.

Awesome, Cambo! That is what we hope to have happen in a few weeks. We are out there on a traditionally slow weekend. Fingers crossed.

I'm not sure how "slow" it was this past weekend. When we first decided to go, rates were okish, but seemed a bit high. Harrah's was about 170 a night. Weekend before and 2 weekends after were much better, like $140. When we did go to book a few weeks later, rates had gone up to $190. I looked really quickly but didn't see anything major going on that might cause this. When we arrived, around 4:30pm Friday, traffic was very light, much lighter than I have seen in forever. Pedestrian traffic was minimal as well. Overall it seemed slow and quiet compared to most other times I have been there. Yet the counter person said they were pretty busy when we said it seemed slow. If they were in fact busy, then all the better deal the upgrade was.

    Good luck, VegasDog

Any new updates here? I'm going next Friday through Monday and wanted to see if $20 was plausible around that time for any sort of suite update like it apparently worked back in October. Thanks! :D

Going to be at Harrahs March 14-17 for MM. Going to try $100 to move from basic room to a suite. I know rooms are hard to come by during MM so it’s a long-shot. Has anyone had success in previous years during MM at any strip casinos?

Very worth it at Harrahs; I was offered a possible upgrade to Valley Tower for $100 total for the 5 days when I booked online. Hoping I DO get that offering. We are checking in Tuesday before MM so hoping there may be more available then.

I checked in around 11:30am this morning, helped by Judy. She is da bomb!! Did $20 trick with a big smile and got an upgrade to valley studio for 5NTS. She even waived the early check in fee, which was $30. Love the extra space!!

When I checked in to our Mardi Gras room Tuesday before March Madness (for 5 nights) I mentioned we had been offered an upgrade to Valley tower for $20/nt & that we wanted to take advantage of that. The gal at Diamond check in said--"You don't need to pay for an upgrade--you are diamond!" I then gave her $20 for that (I did not have it out) & she was very surprised.
Valley tower rooms are MUCH nicer than the basic rooms, but still small--comparable to LINQ. But for $330 for 5 nights over March Madness we were quite pleased.

I was upgraded to Valley Tower back in June when I stayed my last night of the trip... Just asked for it in the Diamond Lounge, didn't have to put the $20 in there. On a weeknight when it isn't crowded, it would benefit Harrahs to show off their new rooms... probably not tough to get the upgrade.

I tried it this past week, and she didn't do anything but just credited me 20 dollars on my hotel bill.

I'm booked for 2 nights in January (12th and 13th). Booked through the totalrewards site using my TR card (just a gold status). Do you think I am worth of an upgrade from the Mardi Gras 2 queen room?

Anyone try the $20 trick at Harrahs other than Las Vegas? Like Laughlin, Rincon or New Orleans?
