I've got a friend going to Vegas next week for the first time. She let her BFF (another first-timer) book the trip. They are staying at SLS and want to do a bit of drinking. Looks like they have some quarter VP at both bars but I don't have a clue how the drink service is.

    Any ideas?

I did not play at the bar, but drink service on the floor is "ok" but not as regular as I might like.

@jpw711 goes there for Bloody Mary's nearly every trip.

Currently have 8/5 DDB w/prog. or 6/5 Super Aces without progressive (used to be 7/5...grrr).

I've never stayed at SLS too long myself, but service was fast enough at the bar (of course it was dead). Even on the gaming floor I was impressed (again dead, and a couple of years ago). Might get back there next month. Way overdue.

I love going to play VP at their bars!
The bartenders make really good drinks (i specifically like their mojito) and are very quick to refill an empty glass.

The only downside of that bar is the really annoying video overhead. It creates really weird glares on the VP screen.

I only played at the ‘weird video thing’ bar one weekday afternoon. Only one side of the bar had VP, like eight positions and all in the worst possible spot for glare and reflections. I figured the property was not too enthusiastic about bartop players, but drink service was fine. I didn’t detect any green light system but I did get two beers without any argument. I also won some raffle where they pinged an active player’s card every thirty minutes and scored $120 freeplay.

We were there in December, Christmas week, to visit some friends who were staying there.

It was dead dead and I was getting Spacedust IPAs faster than I could drink them at the bar nearest the Book. Friendly bartenders, clean place.....don’t recall the paytable.

There was a five dollar free play if you signed up for a players card.

Only played at the bar there once, couple years ago, I think it was the center bar with the 3D-Video thing. Again, pretty slow night, but bartender was quick and attentive, drink was strong.

I played on Umami burger side of the bar and had great service. That particular bar has a side facing Umami and the other side facing the casino. The VP paytable was decent and like the other poster mentioned they kept the spacedust IPA's coming without me having to ask. Oh, and I also ordered from the Umami Burger menu and ate right at the bar while still playing VP.

I forgot to mention. If you go to Umami Burger's website and look at the menu it will tell you what beer is on tap for that side of the bar! Last time I asked what was comped I was told any drink up to $12 with an initial $20 buy-in. I was never hassled on my play once I sat down. I plan to go back the next time I am in Vegas.

Interesting. Unfortunately, 10 of the 13 beers on tap, "big beer" has a hand in (mostly AB-InBev). This is a big issue with most Vegas casinos. Another reason why I'll miss TAG. :(

Also it's a bummer that Ninkasi Tricerahops only comes in 22 oz. bombers because that jacked the retail up to $20, and non-compable. :( I've wanted to try that one in Vegas for years without paying for it outright of course. Lol.

It has become standard practice to put the word ‘big’ in front of anything to make it seem cold and evil. It just doesn’t work for me and ‘Big Beer’. Big Beer doesn’t sound evil, Big Beer sounds like it wants to be my friend.

Yeah, I mean I'll still drink it. Lol

But the craft beer that's been bought out hasn't usually been outstanding. The main exception to this is Lagunitas (owned by Heineken). That's clearly my favorite beer company based on quality, availability, and price. I don't drink it in Vegas too much, but at home, I often have some available.

Last night I tried their barleywine for the first time. Best barleywine I've ever tried. (10.9%; 4.5 sips). $5 for the bomber. Many other companies charge $7-$10 for a bomber.

I did like that the SLS bartenders tell you twelve bucks, my least favorite guessing game is ‘can you comp that?’ When Cosmo went to their coupon system the bartenders said they’d comp up to fifteen bucks or any of their sixteen dollar martinis. Well, my wife went straight to the drink menu and I had to up my tipping game; I couldn’t just leave a dollar for a shaker drink.

Actually it was an emailed response from management. I asked back in 2016 and the actual quote was, "Slot comps are 1 drink per $20 that our guest inserts into the video machines, our guest have to be an active players and we comp drinks under $12. "

Notice how their cocktails are $13? That's not a coincidence!

It could very well have changed by now with the SLS under new ownership and all but $12 sounds about right for a place like SLS.

I plan on going back to the SLS (Umami Bar) in July and I'll post up what they say.

Cosmo is the same way now too. The specialty cocktails are $16 but one drink ticket only takes care of drinks up to $15. So you have to give them 2 tickets for those since July of last year.

This was not the case when I was there in November, although we were there on off times. I.e. got the verbena for one ticket.
