Funny that a place like Jerrys Nugget stays profitable but a newly renovated strip property cant figure it out.

    That's easy. Everything's paid for.

Jerry's does not have a hotel. They were there before whatever regulation went into effect and are one of the few grandfathered full-service casinos without a hotel.

I do have an upcoming (April) reservation at what is now the SLS so I will report back. It's a corporate travel reservation through Sabre so I assume the new management (if in effect at the time) will honor it. I had them book the room as soon as I got the OK for the conference.

Jerry's caters to a different crowd, mostly locals. SLS is trying to find it's identity and still hasn't. When it was the Sahara it catered to both locals and visitors but SLS doesn't have anything locals would visit for.

They seem to have found two niche markets, but I don't think when combined it's enough to sustain it. Air crews and people doing events at the LVCC. You see a lot of airline uniforms and conference badges and ephemera. Last time there I did not notice very many El Lay oh-so-hip party types there, probably less so than at Caesars and PH. Now if they would only expand and capture some local business for the slow weekdays they might be able to make a go of it.

SLS spent way, way too much money, and also targeted a clientele they just could not draw in the door.

And Jerry's is next to a popular establishment which leads to a little pre or post visit bump.

For what they are, and where they are, their regular rates are too high (at least when I've looked).

Our travel department didn't even blink an eye when I said I wanted to stay there rather than Westgate twice now.

It's not unreasonable when compared to other cities...but when compared to other Vegas hotels, still too much for me to go stay there for my vacation.

I heard Alex is also interested in buying Lucky Dragon. The new "Grand Sahara" might work along with LD, the Circus, The STRAT , etc. as an alternative to going Downtown and still being on the "Strip".
Many of us in the past have wished for a North Strip budget revival. At least till Resorts World and The Drew are finished in a couple/few years.
With the Monorail and the expansion of the Convention Center out to the Strip, this could have many more walkers on the Noth Strip casino hopping.
Come on Alex, don't make the mistakes SLS made, make the Sahara Grand again.

Any visible signs of a transition to Grand Sahara at this point? Change in players club? Matchbooks with the new name? Anything?

I often wonder in absence of a fire sale what new owners are going to do differently resulting in a now profitable venture. Given the prices in renovation and sale.

I stayed there in April, and absolutely no visible signs of any rebranding or retheming. I'll be there in a couple of months again and I'll report back.

I can see an addiction forming here. Caution. Research is one thing. Gaming another. But then, cheapo Las Vegas left many moons ago.
Looking forward to a neutral perspective

Went to the SLS on Monday of this week (5/7) and most of the casino was still the same. They moved the bulk of their table games to near where the pool entrance is. Still nice, quiet, and clean.

They really need to improve the VP to be competitive.

The main movement upfront will probably be in the restaurant spaces. Most of the existing stuff will be swapped out.
