Sportsbooks ID/limit question

Someone may have asked this question before, but my question is how much can you bet/win on a single betting slip before the casino asks you to show an ID (nothing over 300:1 payout, just a 8:1 payout at most). It seems like most people are saying that $2,500-$3,000 is the most you can collect before they start asking for an ID. I just wanted to see if anyone had a different number or which casinos have the higher number. I win a lot and I'm trying to stay under the radar to avoid getting banned lol

 

I believe it has to do with the reporting of cash transactions to the Federal Government.

Title 31 of the Bank Secrecy Act states that the casinos are required to file Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) to report a cash transaction (or related group of transactions in a single gaming day) exceeding $10,000.

The casinos have their own methodologies of tracking the transactions over a 24 hour period.

 

yeah I'm aware of the CTR stuff, but some casinos ask for an ID even with low levels, that's what I'm trying to avoid lol

 

In my experience, it really varies from book to book. While I've been able to place a $5,000 wager at Aria with no one blinking, Caesars properties on a whole seem to be a bit more inquisitive. $1,000 wagers at PH have been enough for an ID check. If getting carded is a major concern for you, I'd definitely stick with MGM properties.

To be clear... why do they need to do an ID check? It's not for a CTR, and (seemingly) not for an age verification. What exactly is the casino accomplishing by asking to see a $x,xxx bettor's ID?

I've never been asked for ID at sports books, although I seldom bet. I'll do a $20 on My Team when I think they will do well in a bowl game and such.

Do they just ask for the ID, as in to prove that you are alive and of age, or do they scan it and record it?

 

You're overthinking it. You're not getting banned. This seems an awful lot like a humblebrag because if you're a pro, you already know the answer to this question.

 

The Cosmo (sportsbook) asks for ID on a bet of 3K or more.

 

ID is for transactions over $10k. Normal just about anywhere including banks.

IRS only gets involved if the WINNINGS (not the bet) exceed 300-1. That requires a W2-g winnings form.

Some books may want to check if over a certain dollar amount.

And, why avoiding showing an ID?

There is such a thing as being tagged (banned) as an advantage player in sports betting. It doesn't happen only at the blackjack tables. It's obvious that's what OP is talking about here.

 

My bank (BOA) wants ID for my deposits

 

I would approach the desk and tell that that I left my ID in the safe upstairs...can I place a bet without it?

 

Does this apply to both betting and collecting that amount?

 

My bank (U.S. Bank) has started asking for my ID on cash deposits of $500 or more. Could not get a straight answer as to why. I'm going to make some $499 deposits and see what happens.

 

Maybe it is time to tell them where to go. This is stupid!

 

When they asked for ID when I ordered new checks (LOL, anymore this is a once every 10 year affair) they said that it's so someone does not order checks on your account at a "new" address and such.

 

I haven't been lucky enough to find out if they ID on the collecting side...

Reason I know, is I put a 3K bet (on the wrong side) for Superbowl. I was surprised when the teller wanted ID (not a players card). The teller explained it was Cosmo policy to track ID on bets of 3K or more.
