Does anyone know if Vic & Anthony's is affiliated with Landry's? Got $50 to use this month...was going to go to Chart House...

The skyway between MSS and The Cal is a great place to make semi-private FaceTime calls using the free Boyd WiFi. It’s usually pretty quiet there.

Maybe this isn’t much of a downtown secret but this thread needs a little bump! I love downtown and it’s changing all the time.

I will acknowledge that I am in the great minority here. But truth be told I was very disappointed with the mob Museum when I went there in 2015. So much of it was standing and watching brief videos I just felt like I could stand at home and watch YouTube videos about the mob and not be in the building forced to do so. I will admit I enjoy a lot of the pictures and anecdotes see you here along with the tour. Also being in the very famous quart room where the mob cases took place I think back in the 1970s was fascinating. Now the neon Museum that’s a different thing and cannot be missed.

If you're looking for a fun, one-hour break from gambling, check out Axehole, in Neonopolis. Wife and I stopped in there last week and had a blast. They provide instructions, teach you a couple of trick throws, and let you have at it. Every ten minutes or so, they bring out a new weapon, show you how to use it, and turn you loose.

Oh, and one more vote for Sigma Derby!

Heard this on a recent FiveHundy podcast but you can use your comp points/dollars on your D/Golden Gate One players card at local restaurants like Le Thai and Eureka!

    Highly recommend Le Thai.

I'll be loving all of Downtown in exactly 17 days. Can't wait to have the snails at Hugo's. Searching for a trivia game near downtown Thanksgiving week.

Tenaya Creek Brewing has one on Wednesdays. Double check it’s still going on. It’s either a sketchy short walk or super quick Uber ride from Fremont, just across (under) the freeway. Great beer and cool place. It’s in the middle of a dicey looking neighborhood but a very nice place.

I've made that sketchy walk to Tenaya several times (unsurprisingly less sketchy in my mind on the walk back after a few pints). Never had an issue or been approached, but I can understand someone wanting to avoid it.

Certainly more sketchy IMO than the walk between downtown and The STRAT on LV Bvld (which isn't even close to sketchy anymore). Maybe similar to some of the less traveled areas around the Arts district.

I have a feeling this is going to get long but what I originally came to respond to was about the mob Museum. If you're leery about not liking the tour, if you follow their instagram page every day they share a new password, and if you go around to the side of the museum there is a staircase with a door at the bottom, and a sliding peephole, knock on the door, someone will answer and give them the password and you get into the bar for free without having to go on the tour. My group did this and loved it. Drinks start at about $12 but are tasty and there is some effort put into them other than a couple shots and a mixer. Some come into a bok that you get to mix/pour yourself. We happened to be there on a day when they were doing free samples of their liquors, the have their own distillery as well. There is also some great photos, costumes and memorabilia down there.

Now for where it will get long, my tips and downtown deals and fun. My wife and I (and at times with a group of friends) have been to vegas about 25 times over the last 18 years and for the last 10 have pretty much exclusively stayed downtown.

Here are some downtown tips I shared somewhere else (and a few more since then) that I thought might be of interest...

    1. Play in the Tree House at container park - ENOURMOUS tree house, almost always empty. A few slides that even adults can appreciate!
    2. People watch unknowing/unsuspecting people get freaked out by the fire breathing praying mantis at Container Park. It never gets old, we've even seen a couple people fall down they jumped back so hard because it startled them so much.
    3. Ride the driverless car Fremont East. Not sure how long they are running, I believe it was limited but its something you can tell other people you have done. Pretty boring, but I was glad to have tried it.
    4. Hang out at the Golden Nugget Pool off season. When they aren't charging a cover or requiring reservations hang out by the pool at the nugget. We go in December often and the pool area is open with Fire Pits and great lighting. We always pre-game there with friends and get our plans together and catch up as people roll into town.
    5. Take a picture with the peeing cherub fountain at the D near their Valet parking. haha
    6. Play non-gaming games at Gold Strike - There may be a cover on weekends or special nights, but 90% of the time there isn't and the place is empty. They have large version of games outside like Chess, Beer Pong, Jenga, Corn Hole, 4 Square and they even have a tether ball. They also have board games inside you can check out for free with your ID and you can lounge around and play with friends. I've never been asked to buy a drink in a dozen trips there.
    7. Axehole that someone else mentioned is a great time. We bought a groupon there and loved it. Very patient instructors. They told us we didn't have to purchase the groupon we ould just mention it and they would give us the same price because they have to give half of the groupon rate to grooupon and would rather get all the money.
    8. Take a picture with $1 million dollars at Binions.
    9. The Neon museum is an ablsolute must. Very cool, and very old vegas. They have a new show called BRILLIANT where they project film and lights onto some of the signs that don't light up and from what I have seen online it looks amazing.
    10. People watching doesn't get any better than sitting at Binions Whisky Licker bar or at Four Queens patio. Buy a couple drinks and enjoy the craziness and music.
    11. Try the Unicorn Grilled Cheese sandwich at Gold Spike's Fiddlestix retauraunt. It's surprisingly sweet. Very interesting combination.
    12. Sigma Derby as mentioned earlier. Grab a roll of quarters and play for hours while getting served well by the cocktail waitresses.
    13. the BBQ at Binions Benny's Bullpen is FANTASTIC and priced just as fantastically.
    14. Play video parker at the Plaza at the Omaha Lounge bar on Wed, Thurs, Fri nights and watch, listen, and dance to Wonderboogie. Great coverband playing mostly 70's music with some newer music mixed in. this is a must every trip for us. They also play Sinday nights I beleive at sams town and are occasionally at the Fremont outdoor stages.
    15. Donut Bar just off fremont is a delicious. A little pricey for a donut, as to be expected at the trendy places, but not ridiculously priced. they also frequently have Gluten Free options.
    16. Pizza Rock. Great happy hour food and drink specials twice a day and fantastic food.

Lastly, this isn't exclusively downtown and many of you may already know about this, but the Las Vegas Advisor coupon book (about $40) is a must have.. You will can easily double or triple the value of this exclusively only using downtown deals and can even make back the cost of the book by simply using just one of the aprrox 50 coupons ata a buffet on the strip. Besides having great 2 for 1 food deals, it lets us try places we wouldn't normally go because of the savings. If you go to LV more than once in a year (like most of usually do I assume) you will save so much money and gain so many new food and entertainment experiences. For example, I would NEVER pay $50+ for one buffet so when the LVA book had a 2 for 1 buffet coupon for Wicked Spoon at the Cosmopolitan it made the price of $25ea much more manageable so we gave it a try and loved it. Never would have done it without the discount though. The book costs about $35 or $40 so that one coupon alone paid for the book and there is about 50 other coupons that give you even more value. Our friends cannot believe how good the coupons are but are too lazy to go online and order the book ahead of time...too bad for them! ;) 2for1 are available dowontown for buffets at Golden Nugget and Fremont, 2for1 at Magnolias in 4Queens, discounts on rooms at El Cortez, many freeplay coupons at almost every casino, discounts for the slotzilla etc.

That's all for now, I'm sure I could come up with a dozen or two more though! :)

i would suggest, for those into rock music, there are always bands playing at Mickey Finz/
Henneseys on East Fremont (before you head down to El Cortez). We are going Dec 21st
Friday night and Stoked is playing at Finz. They are fantastic, really high energy and great
singer. They have a rotation of other really great bands as well.

That is a great place, good food and drink specials. It does get pretty loud if you aren't there to check out the show though. The night Before (Wed 20th) they're having a bar crawl there, $20 and you get a drink at 6 different fremont bars, half off an app and entree and there is a $100 ugly sweater contest. I won last year and got a $100 gift certificate to Hennessy's, which was great because it can be used at any of their locations so I used it in California at their Hermosa location on St Patricks day!

We're gonna be there Wed-Sat so we're thinking about doing it again. We were there with another couple last year so they were able to cheer me on pretty loud, this year its just me and the Mrs.

I have walked by that place a million times, and have never felt compelled to go in.
I really should give it a try.
how are the drink prices / do they have any drink specials?

Geez, that is a really good question. i dont recall offhand what the drink prices
are like. The bands start later so it is after happy hour and by then i have had
a few. We have thought about that bar crawl before, may have to hit it one day.

I believe Mickey Finnz does 2for1 drinks at happy hour and half off appetizers. I'll know for sure in 4 days!
