How is Southpoint holding up?

Haven't been there for over three years, and wonder how it is holding up.

Are rooms showing age, or are they being refreshed?

How about the Casino itself? Looking good? Updating to latest slot games?

I've stayed there many times over the years and haven't seen any degradation anywhere. Rooms are well taken care of, clean carpet, no visible wear on the furniture, top-notch maid service. Public areas are equally well tended.

Most recent stay was this time last year for NASCAR weekend; will be returning in a couple of weeks for this year's.

 

We stay there at least once a year. Always everything in good shape and friendly service.

 

I'm a big fan of South Point. Better than average video poker, blackjack pays 3 to 2 on all tables, large sports book, a separate race book. A wide range of restaurants that will suite every taste and price point. Love the breakfast buffet that offers scrambled eggs with lox. Also love their Silverado steakhouse (ask for Susan to be your server).

 

I just stayed at SP 2 weeks ago.
The casino is in good shape and offers some of the fairest house edges on most games. If you're a craps player...which I am...they stick with double odds (and weird double odds at that) so I have reservations about playing there unless I stick to video poker.
The rooms are in good shape but the furniture is VERY outdated (formica) and done in a horrible mustard brown color. I have pics of the room in my TR 'a cheap trip' around page 3-4.
The spa is small but nice and relaxing.
The restaurants are good-very good; not bad, not great.

 

When I stayed last year, there were a bunch of new games I didn't find on the strip. They also had piles of the good, old games. I had no problem at all finding games to keep me occupied. Really didn't mind the room at all. Dated but clean and comfy. I thought the food there was meh, which is saying something because I am not a food snob. I'd definitely stay there again.

 

They got robbed last night. This seems to be the new thing in Vegas.

Damn good police work!

 

We came to Vegas for the Breeder's Cup, last November- plus all the other usual suspects, NFL, BJ, touring, etc. Quickly found that we were SOL for seats for the BC and started searching around.

My Sis has connections at the M (among others already filled, like the Wynn & Cosmo), so we tried it. Availability? Great. Watching the actual races? Horrific, with exploding pixilated screens and old terminals that failed to work.

We left and while heading North, remembered that old bugger Musberger had become a front man at South Point for Sirius Radio. So we stopped & even watched Brent in the booth doing his thing!

Then we roamed around, what turned out to be an enormous casino, with about a dozen different & quirky food stations- including the old time Vegas cheapie breakfasts at midnight. Looked at a yuuuuuge Sportsbook and then turned the corner to heaven- an equally yuuuuuuge Horse Race Book, complete with a live BC review show!

And on the big day, Saturday, no we couldn't get in to it, as it was filled, but S.P. was on it's game, with a yuuuge ballroom upstairs, completely outfitted with tellers, HD TVs and free tea & coffee and cheap eats!

We loved it and returned for the NFL, BJ and are just finalizing for this year's B.C.! Terrific place.

 

Went there yesterday and as always the casino floor was pretty busy/packed for a monday afternoon.

 

I still want to know how much one typically gets away with when robbing a casino cage in Vegas...

For those of you who have stayed/played at South Point, what kind of marketing offers do they send out for rooms, food and free play?

 

Mike, I haven't found SP marketing offers to be worth much. I have had success dealing with a host there so you might want to contact one. They are shown on the SP web site. Honestly, I haven't heard that really anyone gets mailing offers worth much there, but the hosts and pit people are pretty good.

 

Our offers are usually 2 free nights and only $14 resort fee. Considering that we are very low rollers that's pretty good...I think.

 

Just spent the night at South Point last night on our way to San Diego. Been 10+ years since our last stay here, but we've visited in between.

Love how big and roomy the rooms are, but wish there was a sleeper sofa tucked into all that space. The pool stays open until 10pm which is great! Place was bustling on a Friday night, but there was a big wrestling meet going on. Casino is big with lots to choose from, but it sucked my money up quickly with almost no wins (even small) to keep me going. Not cool!

Absolutely can't beat the late night breakfast special from midnight - 6am in the coffee shop. Hoping my pictures will load to show my meal and the prices. Specifically got up at 5:15am so I could eat before we headed out for San Diego. LOL.

That's a decent looking hunk of meat for $4.95!

You should have seen the buffet line around 7am with all those kids lined up! Actually a good looking bunch of respectful kids (from what I observed) but I bet they put a hurt on that buffet.

Had the same experience on slots couple nights ago with my wife. Put $20 in, $20 gone, move machines ... repeat. I have much better luck when I'm by myself playing BJ and video poker. But sometimes we like to slot around and have the same type of luck everywhere I bet I'm down $1k on that expletive Buffalo slot everyone talks about.
