    my general advice:
    1. casinos are too cold, be prepared. I always have my jacket even in the hottest days in the summer. (outside 120 degree, inside it's like 55).
    2. if you dress up, you do get more compliments. if you dress down, no one cares about it.

I read a synopsis of a study once that asked the question "why do americans dress like slobs", with the answer basically being" because we can".

It said that in europe, if you dont dress well you are looked down upon(and treated differently) not just by the rich, but by most other classes as well. Whereas in this country, casual dress by the rich or poor, even taken to the extreme, results in almost no repercussions. So that guy in the casino wearing a t-shirt, sweats, and flip flops, could very well be extremely rich.

Think: "People of Walmart" and you'll be fine.

I honestly hate seeing people "schlep" around Vegas in an outfit not worthy of doing yard work...or worse, in pajama bottoms. If you can't put in a bit of effort in Vegas, have you just given up?! I know that is an "old fashioned" attitude but dress better, feel better.

I miss my early days in Vegas where it was more common to see people dressed to the nines.

I saw a whole family in line at Cafe Madeline at Paris in their pajamas last month. I balk when I see people doing this at the continental breakfast at the Super 8, let alone in Vegas. Have a little class people. If you can't get out of your PJ's, order room service.

Yet the practitioners will state: "How is that at all harming you?"

Well, you know, hygiene is optional, too, when you think about it.

The el-cortez had(and I still think has) a policy that they wont allow muscle shirts, etc on men in their restaurants...if your pits are visible, you aint eatin!

You gotta wonder...were you all so ravenously starving that you couldn't just throw on something casual just for breakfast? Or is getting dressed such an arduous task that you defer it until the very last second? About the only way I'd be outta the room in PJs would be if the fire alarm was blaring and smoke rapidly filling the stairwells. Lined up for a f*ing waffle?...un uh.

I took two photos in Vegas that boggle my mind and have posted them here in the past.....one of an old guy in a bathrobe eating at the former 24/7 Cafe at Palms and the other of a 20 something woman in a Wynn bathrobe in the Wynn casino. WTF.....it takes a minute to put on pants or a dress and a dress is every bit as comfortable as a robe. I just don't understand it.

A friend’s house caught fire in the middle of the night and her hubby was digging through the hamper to find his favourite jeans to put on before leaving.

I always try to look 'decent' so not to feel out of place in the surroundings I find myself in. If I am just hanging around our home casino (in Vegas) for the day we will not make too much effort but I'll be wearing some decent cargo shorts and a smart shirt/t shirt.

If we just head out for the day with no plans we tend to make more effort and will dress up a little so not to be out of place in whatever surroundings we find ourselves in. Obviously we have been overdressed compared to some of the clientele in some places we have ended up in but I think it is nice to make a little effort in your appearance wherever you may be.

The may have been ready for the pool and threw on a robe so they weren't in their swimsuit.

My standby's for Vegas are blue jeans, black dress pants, and capri's (for daytime). I wear mostly nice simple comfortable tops/shirts and for evening have two dressy tops for nicer meals or shows. I don't care for the 'just got out of bed' rumpled look but I'm not a 'dressed to the 9's' person either in Vegas unless it's a special occasion. And a sweater - agree some casinos are freezing. Hubs wears jeans or cargo shorts with polo shirt or buttoned shirt and khaki's for dinner.

Wear what you feel comfortable in and take one dressier looking outfit for those times you want to upgrade your look a bit. I'd skip the wedgie bikini.

Sorry - but I refuse to lounge around a casino with shorts and t shirt. I like to keep it classy. Jeans and sports jacket ( I know some like Hugo Boss). A sleek belt and shiny shoes. An eye catching watch is a must. The way a man dresses speaks a lot about him. Just sayin’....

All it says it that they have different priorities than you. Enjoy playing dress-up. Personally, I like video poker.
