Because they are playing a different game than you. You have to judge how bad the paytable is relative to the full pay pay table for the specific variant you're playing

E.g. full pay bonus poker (99.17%) is 8/5 (full house/flush.) For double bonus, the comparable game with 99.11% payback version is 9/7/5 (full house/flush/straight)

It should follow that 7/5 bonus poker (which is down 1 on the full house and unchanged below that) is a much better game than 8/5/4 double bonus (down 1 on full house, 2 on flush, and 1 on straight)

8/5/4 double bonus is barely a 94% payback game. Even 6/5 bonus is much better than that at 96.9%.

I haven't looked at all the games on the HRH machines, but I suspect they have to offer some variants that are at least at 96% if you're playing 50 cent credits, and they probably have at least 1 that is 97%+. VPFree suggests they have 99.17% payback 8/5 bonus at the high limit bar for single line dollars.

Basically @The Rumor covered the main points above. "Full Pay" varies among games. And in particular "Double Bonus" can be a trap because the straight can be either 20 or 25 coins. If it's 20 coins, there is almost always a better game choice on that same unit.

Here are some games I would recommend keeping an eye out for on bartops. They aren't overly common, but a few casinos have them on their bartops.

    6/5 Super Aces Bonus
    6/5 Super DDB
20 wild royal/9 straight flush Double Bonus Deuces Wild

All these games are notable because they are the worst paytables IGT will offer, but still pay back 97.78%, 97.69%, and 97.68%, respectively

As The Rumor and Tring said above, different games.
But I would not worry about it too much. Even at 94% payout, it is probably better than all slots.

Yeah, I love SDDB, because they can't make it worse than 6/5.
I know some evil companies outside US reduce the pay on trips to 2:1, but then it becomes a completely different game.

Yeah, I keep flipping back and forth between being amazed and being mad that it had to come right after a hand that provided no multipliers for this hand.

We are in Tunica this week and I hit this at the Horseshoe on nickel (because quarter is too rich for me at 45 credits) spin poker. It's not my biggest money jackpot but definitely my best hit at 12000 credits for 3 Royals! I only held 3 and they fell just right to give me 3 lines. 20180328_145241.jpg

Last night (4/7) at the Tropicana in Evansville, IN...

Bought in for $300 and as you can see, I was down to my last $10. I was dealt an off-suit jack and nearly kept it for the straight. Looks like we've got our bankroll for out May trip to Vegas. Just glad I finally have something to post in one of these threads :)

    Congrats @Basil!

Surprised a PA casino actually offers 9/6 DDB for dollars. And is that a bartop? Lol

    Thanks! Definitely felt great

Thanks. And yeah, I was surprised as well. There were 6 or so machines on one side of the bar that were multi-denomination. Only 3
Of them were working. Other side of the bar had $0.25 progressive machines that I didn’t bother to look at. The other two sides of the bar were full, so not sure what they had.

Funny (to me) story about all this. Traveling for work and had an early start to meetings, so was on the go from 7:30 to 6. My plan was to get some takeout in the hotel and watch the bruins game.

Got the food and then realized the hotel didn’t have nbcsn. After some internal debate, ended up saying f-it, and drove to parx. Plan was to play some 1-2nl and watch the game.

Get seated at a table facing a tv with the game on. Perfect. Play 3 hands, losing $100 when my QQ loses to 2-5 offsuit. Then the floor asks “anyone watching the hockey game?” I say I am and he tells me that I just sat down, and a reg wants basketball (this is one tv of like 25 around the room)

I know I’m not winning an argument with the floor, so tell him to do what he’s got to do and I rack up. Cash in and head to the bar which is showing the game, and the results are above

So thanks to the floor man. Wasn’t happy about it, but worked out well for me (to be fair, This guy’s a reg, and I’m someone he’s never seen before and has played 3 hands. He was apologetic about it at least and realize it was probably the right move from a business perspective. I’m also not the type who’s going to sit and argue about something as stupid as what’s on tv.)

I don't play quarters any more because of the two times that I won a Royal on Quarters, it was such small amount :(

Funny: they both happened at VP. Haven't been able to strike a Royal in any other casino and I've done at least $300k coin-in in Video Poker alone (over the course of 3 years).

Umm. I guess lightning can strike twice?

Just busted out of my poker game (at Foxwoods), and first hand I played.
