The desert air woke me from my slumber far more early than I would prefer. The day started with the requisite trip to Starbucks for some girly frap.

This day was to be an adventure. We had rented a car from the Four Queens Avis location as our downtown stay had come to an end. We arranged to return the car at the NYNY where the remainder of our debauched stay would occur

At any rate, for a total of 110 included paying for extra insurance we had some gmc suv for the day. First order of business was to Red Rock resort after checking out of the nugget. We had never ventured this far off strip so we east coast mountain and ocean people were stoked to venture into the wild. We stayed at red rock long enough to enjoy an amazing lunch at Yard House and gambled a bit. Not wins for me but Ryan hit himself a nice bonus on some random slot for like 80 bucks.

We paid the money to do the scenic route and were blown away. The scenery in the red rocks is amazing. Tons of hiking trails beckoned. I am overweight, lazy and hungover but we still managed a long walk into the ravine to take some photos and enjoy the scenery. We spent a solid couple hours total going through the park at which time it was approaching rush hour so we wanted to get on our way to avoid traffic as much as possible.

We decided to check out Sams town for the hell of it. None too impressed we finally made our way over to the NYNY for checkin and festivities.

Once we went through the checkin process we were given room 1602 in the New Yorker tower. We had a nice view of mgm and excal but good god it was over a hundred yards from the elevator to our room. Not fun for some drunk fellows.

I absolutely love sirricos pizza at nyny so I immediately got a slice. It didn’t disappoint. Afterwards we meandered into the MGM Grand and eventually to excal for lower limits. With cash to burn and beers to drink we sat at a let it ride table. An hour of play netted me three beverages and relieved me of half my 100 dollar buy in.

Not much else to report this day. We were exhausted and had pizza late night snack and retired before 1am

Sounds like you guys are having a great time. Continued decent luck on gambling. If you liked Red Rock, you should check out Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks in southern Utah, and Grand Canyon and Sedona in Arizona. Obviously much further to drive, but outstanding scenery.

It’s so hard to advocate for any location on the strip as there is so much merit to other spots.
I love the intersection of Tropicana and LVB. mgm has everything a person would want, NYNY is small enough to navigate but big enough to have some epic food options. Excal and hooters offer cheaper tables.

I also love the mirage harrahs corrridor and missed it this trip.

“There is no drunk like day drunk”

The high end ‘tutes were just sneaking out of their rooms when we arose from our slumber on Wednesday morning. It wasn’t much after 8 when Ryan was awake and in the casino. I am less of a morning person and emerged akin to a crackhead after a bender somewhere around 10. There was much anticipation for the day, tho, so I sucked down a frap and manned up.

As big sports fans we decided we needed to spend some time placing some bets on the masters and futures for baseball and hockey. For masters bets I took Watson, Mickelson, Stenson and Fowler. Here’s hoping Ricky makes a Sunday charge as he’s the closest going into the final round.

The decent to the sports book at MGM after crossing the pedestrian bridge was similar to most walks downtown as it smelled like utter shit. Evidently the MGM filters out the stench from the nearby buffet bathrooms or some into that upstairs lobby as it smelled horrific our whole trip.

Anyway, we made the bets and relaxed in the sports book for a while. We of course played some sigma derby for quite some time and sucked down a few beers. Did I mention we’ve been combatively drinking this whole morning? No? Well we were. By midday the Coronas have flowed and the crown has been digested and we part ways for a while.

Ryan stayed in NYNY for a bit. I don’t really know what he did but he smelled like Jack Daniels and smiled like a moron when I saw him so I can only presume he played bubble craps with some other degenerates. I played the 2pm turbo in mgm. 60 bucks wasted.

No one likes a bad beat story, so skip this bitchy paragraph if you’re not a poker fan.

First hand on the button in the tournament I lost with a flopped nut flush, runner runner for a boat for opponent. Third hand JJ lost to A3 off on a 33972 board. Well. You get the point. I lasted to final 6 out of 19 but was low stack most of the way.

The big plan for the day was Gallagher’s. As men, we must eat the flesh of fat ugly animals. This would be our Elysium.

Shortest review ever. Epic steak. Prepared to perfection. Delicious. Amazing. Highly recommend.

    Moving on.

With my belly full and wallet less so I was beginning to feel a little down on gambling. Ryan had been taking a good beating all week and after my early hot start the Vegas gods were being less kind. Until divine intervention. While digesting in the sports book I felt a calling.

A word was jumping through my brain. At first I thought the steak had done it. Perhaps it was the wrong cut of animal. My stomach did feel a little funny and the meat was exceptionally lean. But that wasn’t it. This chanting was a calling. Telling me to take my butt elsewhere and invest my money wisely. The call was

    Bufffalloooo

But I didn’t want to play one of them new fancy buffalo gold or whatever machines. I found an old piece of shit with no sound and a max bet of 2.00.

40 bucks quickly disappeared but then it happened. Coin. Coin. Coin. Retrigger. And again.

When the dust settled I had a nice 368 dollar win on the buffalo machine and my trip was made.

    To be continued

Following my victory of the buffalos, we took a hike to bellagio. We did the requisite tour of the property. Fountains. Conservatory. Posh toilets for 19oz steak dinner deposits. On the way we checked out cosmo for first time in a while, lost a quick few bills here and there then felt ourselves hit a wall. We stumbled our way back towards NYNY. I don’t recall much happening and we didn’t drink much after dinner, so I’m guessing we didn’t do much. We did take note of the Monte Carlo construction and how awful it looks during transition. Vegas is the only town that destroys their old buildings on a semi annual basis. It’s odd to me.
I seem to recall Ryan playing some games when we returned. I spent 18 dollars on a toothbrush(I dropped mine on the floor of a Las Vegas bathroom. Not using again) and antacid

I’ll be honest. We went to bed before midnight. No shame

    A tradition unlike any other

The final day in Vegas is always bitter sweet. I long for my own bed. 10 hours of solid sleep, normal food and a routine.

That said I also long for copious amounts of alcohol and gambling

The day started slowly as is often the case. My budget for the day was 350 or so to ensure a break even trip.

With morning pleasantries taken care of we made our way to shake shack for lunch then to MGM to watch the masters. I love golf and the masters is probably my favorite sporting event of the year. I placed bets on DJ, Fowler, bubba and stenson. None paid off but all were in the top ten most of the week and gave me hope.

We also played a bit more sigma derby at some point. We knew we had a long night ahead as we were meeting up with a long lost friend at mirage in the evening, so it seemed a nap was necessary. Neither of us slept but from about 2-4 we lounged in the room. Beers and terrible food had killed our motivation and we were struggling.

After a crazy uber ride we wound up at the westgate. I considered playing the trooper Thursday game with Mike Matusow but chose to place a few more masters bets after round one, doubling up on bubba at 50-1 after his first round +1. Although he didn’t win this is still damn good odds.

At this time I was still solidly up for the trip, maybe about 350 and was starting to dream of leaving town ahead so I attacked the booze moreso than the gambling. We were meeting up with a buddy we hadn’t seen in years at mirage around 830 so we took another uber from westgate to the mirage. We had an hour or so to kill so we stumbled into casino royal to enjoy their lose 20 get 20 free play promotion. We wound up losing both 20s in half an hour but enjoyed a couple free drinks and enjoyed the dump as always. We stopped into harrahs. We were standing next to. 5 play bank of ddb machines and cocktail waitress offered us beverages. We had zero dollars in the machine but ordered.

We did then sit down each decided to play a hand or two at one credit a hand just to pass the time. Ryan accidentally hit max bet at 6.25 a spin. He sat there till she returned with drinks. Held two fives and and the got a 4oak. Played a couple more hands. Dealt 2 2s. Held on to them and got two more plus kicker. He quickly cashed out up nearly 300 bucks and we were on our way.

at this time we met in the lobby bar at mirage with our buddy for an hour or two. We didn’t play at all at the mirage but popped over to linq. Didn’t play much. Somewhere along the line we played the bubble craps and lost a quick 40. I enjoyed in n out for the first time ever and Ryan got pizza at flamingo. We were drunk and tired, so an uber whisked us away to the NYNY. One final bubble craps session went quite well, Ryan tripled his 100 dollars when he had maxed out his bet on 9 via parlays and it hit another 3-4 times. I doubled my 50 plus some and called it a night.

In the end we had a blast. We both found ourselves more exhausted this go round. A bit older yes, but we still went at it pretty hard.

I had my first ever decent winning trip. I started the week hoping to lose under a grand and came home with 250 extra. I spent a solid 100 bucks of gambling budget on random shit so I figure I was up in the gambling department around 350-400.

Our flight home was a nightmare. We were scheduled to get into Chicago at 7 and depart at 1030 for a return home at 125am. We arrived in Chicago after a rough flight on time but our plane to home was delayed in Dallas. We didn’t depart until after 2am, returning to home base around 5am and into my driveway about 630am. Although only a 4 hour delay this messed with the sleep schedule for the week hard.

I love the masters but loathe Patrick Reed. If I had to list my least favorite players on tour he’d be in top three with tiger and Jordan but still an amazing weekend. I love that the masters means spring is here and golf playing is back in season
