    Hey all,

I'm not a huge poker player but I understand the basics and compared to my friends I am a good poker player.

When I travel to Vegas I go with my brother who is not a poker player and could not rattle off the hand rankings...so I've never played poker in Vegas (might have to yet). However, we do enjoy to play a new game that we have never played before.

I understand that Pia Gow Poker isn't poker, and I've played a bit here https://wizardofodds.com/play/pai-gow-poker/ to make sure I understand the game.

    I have a few questions:

    1. If my brother plays Pia Gow Poker, will the dealer help him with basic strategy?
    2. Are players allowed to see other players cards?
    3. Are there any $5 tables in or near Flamingo that you's suggest?

    Much thanks!

    1. If asked, the dealer will tell the player how the dealer would have to set the hand based on the house-way.

    2. Usually if a player wants to show their cards to get help from other players or the dealer, the dealer will ask the player to wait until all the other players have set their hands before showing their cards. How strictly this is enforced varies wildly from casino to casino.

    3. I haven't seen $5 PGP on the strip in a long time.

Agree with @Dtyst1 above. PGP is a very low-volatility game because of the frequent pushes.

Dealers will always advise you how to set your hand the house-way, which is more often than not the best play unless you hold two pair and aren't sure if you should split or play them together.

For $5 PGP you'll have to venture off-strip to South Point, Suncoast, Sam's Town or a few other local joints.

A guy sat next to me hit a 7 card straight flush (2 weeks ago in Tampa) Ace to 7 of diamonds with the joker for 1000-1 on the bonus, he pocketed $25k with his $25 on the bonus (never happens to me)!

Where would be some places close to Flamingo?

When I say close I mean under a 1/2 hour walk?

Intuitively, I'd think The Linq would have it at the $5 level, or Ballys

As already mentioned, you'll have to go off-strip to find $5 Pai Gow Poker, and even then it may well be only on weekdays before things get busy.

well, Cromwell had $10 pai gow in the a.m. but they did bump it up later. Flamingo was $15 all day. $10 might be your best bet in those parts.

Ladies getaway, somewhere on the strip with a pool :)

Why would anyone want to play $5 Pai Gow, it will take you an hour to make any profit (if at all)!

Harrahs usually has one $10 table. Mirage also has a couple of $10 tables too. You won't find any $5 pai gow tables on the strip. The only $5 pai gow table I ever saw was downtown at Binions in the morning. They raise it to $10 before noon.

To drink 7 beers in 2 hours in a game where you probably don't win or lose more than $30

$5 pai gow is dead on the Strip. If you wanted to walk from the Flamingo? Ehhhh I think that's tough because I don't know that Ellis Island offers the game. You probably have to cab it to Palace Station or something like that.

Click here for a good resource for PGP limits. My wife and I enjoy playing because it's a great social game...very low variance...you can make the buy-in last a long time while enjoying a few drinks...plus you can get help from the dealer and other players in setting your hand.

Donny...I think you'll find that playing a $10 table is comparable to playing any other game for $5... it really is that low-volatility of a game.
Buy in for $100 and you could easily last an hour or more (assuming you're not playing bonus bets, etc).

...and, if you're getting decent cocktail service, you & your buddy could easily knock down 3 or 4 drinks an hour.
Oh, and just have your buddy tell the dealer that he wants all of his hands "house way"....all he has to do is place his bets & drink. Soon enough, though, he'll get the gist of the game & probably want to set his hands himself...it's a remarkably easy game to learn... just be sure to tell him that the bottom hand must always beat the top hand, and he'll be fine.

    Thanks Top Card!

Any suggestions for places close by to Flamingo to play at the $10 level?

For $10 games, i've played at Linq, Flamingo, Harrah's, and Cromwell. Cromwell has the best drink service, so i prefer to play there (even if it is a $15 table) I'm playing for the bonus only, so i really dont care what the bet is. Wife hit 7 card straight flush at flamingo May 2017 for $5k, so we always give them play.

    Follow up question:

What type of bankroll do you need to actively play the bonus and play for a few hours at the $10 table?

If you’re looking for $5 Pai Gow youre only going to find it at three casinos in Vegas (Sams Town, South Point, and MAYBE Suncoast)
Now, RENO on the other hand; has plenty of it (but nowhere else that I can even think of)
