For our upcoming trip in July, my wife and I will be renting a car for the first time. We've stayed downtown and on the strip several times, so we're familiar with the attractions there. With a rental car though, we'll be able to venture off-strip with ease.

What are some off-strip gems (casinos, restaurants, attractions, etc.) to put on our must-do list?

We're low-rollers and pretty open to suggestions entertainment- and food-wise so please share some of your favorite off-strip destinations.

    Thanks in advance!

I have nothing to offer in answer to your query, but am eager to hear what others contribute. I want to do what you are doing. . .renting a car and exploring other places.

The outlying casinos are pretty self-explanatory: Sunset Station, M, Red Rock, etc.

What type of food do you like?

How far afield do you want to explore? Springs Preserve and some of the museums -- Atomic, Mob -- come to mind in town. You could burn a day running up to Zion and kicking the tires. Mt. Chas, Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire are closer in.

Jump into the archives. There are scores of threads and hundreds of suggestions toward this end. Have fun!

I'm a big fan of the M Resort (way south on the strip). Their buffet is great and you can earn a free lunch buffet with just 300 points earned on slots.

If you're in Vegas during the week, there's a free radio show taping at the South Point casino on Thursdays at 2pm. The Dennis Bono radio show takes about an hour and he usually features singers and comedians who are performing locally. It's generally a great variety/old school show. It's very popular with the older local Vegas crowd. You can pick up free tickets at the box office starting after 12pm on Wednesdays (you need a players card - one free ticket per players card). They generally give away all the available tickets, so if you want to go, pick up tickets sooner rather than later. Well worth the trip!

One of our favorite Vegas performers is Clint Holmes. He's recently started a new show with singer Earl Turner at the Westgate. They have a great deal on tickets through TravelZoo or through the KSHP radio shopping channel (www.KSHP.com).

    Have a great trip!

see your countdown timer is in July. I would not do anything other than stay indoor or by the pool.

Capo's Speakeasy on Sahara is a good place for couples or for a group. Mob themed place with good food, atmosphere and live entertainment at night, here's a link to their website. If you go make sure you remember the entrance is in the back.

Agreed I don't know where to start, there is just so much out there to do.

A nice afternoon/evening for me would be do the Red Rock Canyon loop then visit Red Rock Resort, Sun Coast and Rampart Casinos. Have dinner at Dom DeMarco's. But this all depends on your taste. (if you start early first have the Pancakes at DuPars in Sun Coast)

    Thanks for the great suggestions.

Following up on some of the comments here with a little more focused online research, sounds like a trip to check out Rampart/Suncoast/Red Rock is definitely a must-do...also a trip to check out South Point and M Resort.

I like both of them and when your doing that area start with Silverton. I love their aquariums and a walk through Bass Pro.

The Southpoint also has a radio studio for VSIN which is sports betting focused, and is headlined by Brent Musburger from 3-5pm during the week, which would give you an inside attraction during the heat. Also, if you go that far south, you might want to check out the brightly colored rocks in the desert http://sevenmagicmountains.com/

Get the two coupon books and go on a coupon run. You'll get a lot of freebies and see a lot of different places.

I do like the Rampart/Suncoast/Red Rock tour. If you want to do a tour in Red Rock Canyon, go early in the morning!
When you visit the casinos, I suggest you visit Rampart first, followed bij Suncoast (next door) and Red Rock. That way you'll save the best for last :)

As others have said, Red Rock tour is great. If extremely hot, it's still worth a drive through. Stop at casino on the way back, good sign up rewards for first time players and above average buffet for cheap.

A roll of quarters or two can kill a few hours at the pinball hall of fame and a lot of fun. Mob Museum was more entertaining than I thought it would be, usually not a museum person. Walk over to Hogs and Heifers for a drink or two afterwards.

I agree with visiting Red Red Canyon and Red Rock Casino. I would also add that if you do the loop at RRC also hit Bonnie Springs Ranch just up the road from RRC. They have a zoo, an authentic looking ghost town, Cowboy shows with hangings (it think the Cowboy shows are dark Mon/Tues), Horeseback riding, Saloons, Mining, etc.
Basically doing the Trifecta, The Canyon, the Ranch, and then the Casino. All three are close together. It will be hot, so i suggest doing the Canyon and Ranch in the morning/early afternoon, then the Casino in late afternoon when the heat is at it's hottest so you'll be inside cooling off.

Don't forget Valley of Fire. As all have said, early morning in July!
