Rates at the LVC was cheap at that time (probably the cheapest downtown) so that's why I stayed there. I know people say that the LVC is/was a dump with horrid rooms but I just wanted a cheap safe place to stay and the LVC fit the bill for me. I mostly play craps so I played at the Boyd properties and didn't put in that much play at the LVC, especially since I don't qualify for comps most of the time. At that time the player's club card was for both the Plaza and LVC but that had zero influence on where I was staying. The price had everything to do with it, that's why I didn't stay at the Cal or MSS, the LVC was probably half the price of both places.

Yeah, sorry for hijacking this thread too.

Over thirty years of Vegas trips, I have never stayed at GN. I have always given them a chance, however. On multiple trips I have spent mucho $$$ 'scouting' out the facility, customers, service, friendliness, etc. Every time I walk out disappointed and choose not to book my subsequent stay there. The 'attitude' previous posters mention seems to be everywhere and every staff person's face and countenance. That's too bad. I did notice on my last trip that the casino floor was unusually dirty and worn. The service at the cafe was fingernail-growth slow. The machines were unwiped. I even saw trashcans full to the brim at the end of the aisles. Tsk-tsk!

I was a big time fan of the GN for years, stayed in a Rush Tower room a couple of times a year for the better part of a decade. The rooms were always great, IMHO, so I had no problem with that at all. What bothered me, and why I ultimately decided to relocate to strip properties, was that they started cutting a lot of corners in regards to customer service and quality of food at their breakfast buffet, which believe it or not I really liked (I'll opt for a breakfast buffet just about every day when I'm in Vegas). Their rates for the wet services in their spa almost doubled in one year. I just got to the point where I figured that if I'm going to pay strip rates for a Rush Tower room I might as well just stay on the strip.

The ONE thing that I do miss about staying at the GN is the Rush Lounge. I've spent many a night there nursing a few drinks watching the bands play there but it wasn't enough for me to hang onto to keep me staying at the GN. Its too bad because I felt really comfortable there for a long time but my last few visits there I noticed a substantial decrease in quality of product/service.

Not sure I'll spend any money at the Nugget it Plaza unless my other downtown offers dry up. I just don't like the vp at the Nugget and I had an issue just talking to a host at the Plaza. Vp is a big selling point for me so I'm picky.

I can't wait for 18 Fremont to open up. I just want to see how it will change Fremont Street. I love to play VP, so I doubt that 18 Fremont will be good for that, but I want to see the GN's reaction to the new casino.

Do I play too little (about $10 a hand at Pai Gow) for a dealer to cheat me? I come across dealer mistakes fairly often but I think they're usually honest mistakes where I've been underpaid. And they take care of it when I bring it to their attention. And I actually do say something when they make a dumb overpay (at least when I know the dealer; other dealers I can go either way; if they're being nice I will speak up; crappy dealers I will usually keep my pie-hole shut)

Just don’t care for the GN, room so tight in slot area. Main thing, just can’t ever win shit there.
