So where did you smoke your cannabis? From every thing I can find, not in public, not in rooms. . .

We smoked it in public (outdoors) and in the rooms.

The Vape Pen is odorless. We smoked it almost everywhere. We smoked the pre-rolls in our smoking rooms. Next year, we'll stick to vaping. It's so convenient.

    Friday December 15

It’s moving day. We were still way behind our planned schedule. Waking up at 9:30 AM didn’t help much. Nothing a 5 shot espresso and a hit off the Vape Pen wouldn’t cure.

Most of our trips involve a day of reckoning. That’s when we realize there’s no way in hell we’re going to do all the shit we planned. So we make adjustments. We cut out the least valuable gambling plays eliminating 6 casino stops and for the 6th year in a row we cut Big Elvis from the schedule. He’s now moved from the ‘Want to see list’ to the ‘bucket list’ mostly because we’re concerned about his bucket. Some day….

We finished our Fremont Plays and walked around a bit
    [IMG]
    Detour Downtown
Next, got packed up and motored the Luxury “Standard of the World” to El Cortez for our $10 free slot plays.

At El Cortez, I hit 4 4s on my $10 Free Play. How ‘bout dat? It made up for all the 25 dollar 4 of kind’s Robin had scored. The gambling wallet continued to grow. It wouldn’t be my only 4 4s this trip.

Next stop was the Lucky Dragon. It made the cut because we’d never visited and you just never know how long a niche casino is going to last in a new, questionable location. It was obviously a good move.
The completely empty Lucky Dragon Casino.

Next on the list was the Gold Coast and then on to the Orleans.

The Orleans is one of the NFR sponsors and from appearances they go all out to attract the rodeo audience. They have the nightly ‘Buck’n Ball’ and many other Rodeo events.

    Legendary Buck’n Ball

In addition to doing our ACG & MRB Free Slot Play and Match Play, we ate at the Medley Buffet (2 fer).

This might just be a good place to further illustrate the Scope of the NFR.

I tried to take a picture of each Hotel NFR Poster. There were many others I didn’t get. It seems everyone’s doing something.

The most interesting was from our very own Home Base Silverton.

We learned a week earlier they had their own mechanical bull and had scheduled a Bikini Bull riding contest for this very evening. My only question was whether they supplied the bikinis or did we have to bring our own.

After a visit to Klondike Sunset in Henderson we headed to tonight’s destination resort, The Silverton. First order of business was to take our crap to the room and begin consuming mass quantities of our pot supply. Then, we had our little contest to take a picture of the highest priced and lowest priced items at Bass Pro Shop in 5 minutes. Robin actually beat me, but I had to disqualify him because he took 6 minutes and 15 seconds.

Finally, I went to the Kiosk and swiped my Players Card to print my food vouchers and collect my Free Play. I was shocked to find there were two $100 Free Plays available for me….And two $75 food vouchers….And two $25 food vouchers. Either they made available all offers from the two mailers I received or they thought I was Mr. Schnieder or they just fucked up. I wasn’t going to question it.

Dinner was at Twin Creeks Restaurant using one of our $75 food vouchers. They have a nice deal on Fridays called ‘Filet Fridays’. For $50 it included a Filet, Potato, Salad, Desert and a glass of Wine.

More Cow…but I prefer my steak to be bigger than my fork.

    Some kind of Tater

It was all tasty, but the steak was too small. It’s ok because we had just eaten at the Orleans buffet for lunch and let’s not forget the South Point Hot Dog

After dinner we checked out the Silverton Rodeo party.

It was dead but still pretty early. But yes indeed.
    I rode the Bull.

    Really.

The rest of the night we rotated between trips to the room to smoke more reefer, slow playing my $200 free play and exploring Silverton. When all was said and done, I turned my $200 Free Play into $115. Luckily it was their money I used so it’s all good.

Since we had an unplanned $25 food voucher and were inexplicably hungry, about 11:30 we headed to the Sundance Grill for a late snack. Banana Splits!

That was it for Friday. It was kind of relaxing since we were at the same joint all night in more ways than one. We had a lot planned for Saturday including Cowboy Christmas, a very special Hannakah dinner and a visit to the belly of the beast…the Thomas and Mack Center for the National Final Rodeo & Rodeo Protests. Interestingly, I finally received a response from Carrie the Rodeo Protestor.

    Saturday December 16
Moving Day again. We’re headed to the Strip & Monte Carlo. First used our 2nd $25 voucher at Silverton’s Sundance Grill. Steak and Eggs…in honor of the rodeo.
    Loves me some cow.

We intended to get to Monte Carlo around 9:00 AM. We got there at 10:00 AM.
    Diablo’s coming down

I had called in advance to see whether we would be able to get Parking at all MGM properties by paying for parking at Monte Carlo…even though we might not be able to actually check in until later. The response was. Don’t’ worry about it. “You’ll be able to check in at 9:00 AM on Saturday. We just aren’t’ that busy. They were right. Not only did we check in with no early arrival charge they gave us a Complimentary upgrade to a new Park Room.. Score!

    Newly Renovated Park Room

From Monte Carle, drove to MGM and valet parked (Included in our Monte Carlo Parking)
Hey Look…Even the MGM Lion gets involved in the Rodeo Action.

Then rode the Monorail to the Convention Center where we were attending the world’s largest cowboy gift show…Cowboy Christmas.
    It’s all here….except

Miss Rodeo America. Could not find.

Finally found some piggin’ string. Then Robin suggested that might not go over very well as a Christmas gift for Mrs. AlanLeroy. Of course he was right. It would be better for Valentines. I decided against as $18 bucks was too much for some damn piggin’ string.

This is a famous Rodeo Cowboy. I don’t know who.

It’s hard to describe how big Cowboy Christmas is. So I made a video.

They fill up the convention center. They use the second floor. There’s an arena on the second floor where they have the Jr. Rodeo. It was supposed to be free, but they were charging $10 on the last day. We passed.

Stetson Hats is a big sponsor and had a huge display. Of course a Stetson could never beat a Johnson.

    Saddle Up!

I came across this very interesting fellow. Winston the Carving Cowboy. He owns the World’s 2 largest pieces of turquoise.

And he’s buddies with Pat Sajak

Hey! It’s team roping Champion Kaleb Driggers. Kaleb just looked at me when I asked him if he thought the cows felt pain

Official 2017 NFR Big Ass Belt Buckle

Somehow we walked over 6 miles at Cowboy Christmas. My feet were sore. Made it back to the monorail back to MGM, then a quick stop at Hooters for our gambling plays and finally back home to Monte Carlo. Robin played his $25 MyVegas Konomi Freeplay and we smoked more of dat sticky icky icky.

We grabbed a LYFT to Wynn for what would be the best meal of the trip. La Cave at Wynn serves a very special Chanukah meal. They feature crispy duck breast with sweet potato latkes and purple potatoes for $21. The restaurant also has a Hanukkah cocktail, Eight Crazy Nights, made with Blue Curacao, Liquor 43, crème de menthe and egg whites, available for $16.

This was the best duck I’ve ever tasted. They were out of the purple potatoes though. I guess they don’t grow on trees.

It was about 6:30 and we had a big night planned. We wanted to catch the Menorah lighting at Venetian at 7:00 PM then immediately LYFT out to Thomas and Mack for the closing moments of the Rodeo and Rodeo Protest, then UBER back to TI and Mirage for their Rodeo Parties.

We made it down to Venetian a little early. I got a prime position to video the celebration. And what fantastic entertainment. The Dancing Dreidels from Brooklyn were performing! We sang. We Danced. Well, I just filmed.

Afterwards Robin mentioned that the whole thing was surreal with me filming wearing my Santa Stuck in Chimney hat amid a group of dancing Dreidels.
    My Lucky Hat

Once the Menorah lighting finished we were at a crossroads. Robin had always been a little reluctant about the trip to the actual rodeo and mingling with the protesters. Now, he pointed out that we had walked 9 miles today, our feet were sore, it’s likely we’d get there and walk another 5 miles and everyone would be gone and it would be a colossal waste of time. That was hard to argue with. So we made a new plan. But before I go there, I want to convey the e-mail Carrie the Protestor sent me. I thought it was thoughtful and well-reasoned. Even though I continue to eat cow.

    Words of Carrie LeBlanc

    “Hi there,

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. Yes...the protest is still taking place and you are welcome to attend. Speaking to protest attendees, you will likely hear a lot of different perspectives or levels of knowledge about what takes place in the rodeo, but one thing we all agree on is that animals are not entertainment.

I personally won't be there, unfortunately, but the gal who is leading the protest on behalf of my nonprofit is named Hani Levi. If you would like any sound bites from me, I am happy to respond by email or to do a call with you.

I think your perspective is accurate: the rodeo is cruel to animals. Certainly there is nothing humane about snatching an animal with a rope, forcing it to the ground, and tying it up. I think it is important to remember that the individuals involved with the rodeo come from the ranching industry. To them, the lives of cows are irrelevant and their pain and suffering not worth consideration. We have had grown adult individuals try to convince us at rodeo protests in years past that animals don't experience pain. I suppose these are the same individuals who choose to deny other types of science, since last I checked cows, being a mammal, have a central nervous system. It is easy enough to go online and find videos of cows trying to escape the slaughterhouse, mourn their young, and feel fear in the face of death. To think they don't have these experiences is emotional thinking (based on the selfish investment in NOT caring what cows might feel, so as to make it easier to eat them or use them for entertainment), and frankly simply ignorant. It is ironic that the rodeo folk think the protesters are anthropomorphizing animals by caring about their suffering, when in fact it is the rodeo folk who are the ones who use emotion to build their case for the rodeo.

CompassionWorks International is a vegan organization. We do not believe in the use and abuse of any being. Life is filled with enough suffering without needing to cause undue anxiety and death on others....particularly when it is for no other reason than simply "enjoyment".

Please let me know if you have any additional questions, and thanks for being the ONLY person to reach out to us wanting to discuss other perspectives!

    Carrie”

Rodeo is big business. It’s steeped in tradition and unlikely to change in my lifetime. Every rodeo person we met was friendly. I think most are truly good people just trying to make a living. But there is another perspective on their competition that is worthy of consideration. Your personal mileage may vary.

So….what did we do to replace our trip to Thomas and Mack? We visited the Linc Promenade to view their nightly Christmas Performance.

Snow in Vegas. It’s a Miracle! Wow! That was special.

We then walked across the street to TI and Gilley’s Bar. This is one of the centers of Rodeo night life.

    Gilley’s
    [IMG]
The cocktail servers at Gilley’s are known as…wait for it…The Gilley Girls. They are scantily clad Cowgirls. I wanted to snap a picture of each of them to add a little oomph to the report….and they were actually points in our photography contest. The first Gilley girl I came across I asked if it was ok if I took her picture. She took one look at me and my Lucky Hat and said “I don’t think so. Unless you get a few other girls together”. I didn’t care. I can deal with rejection.
    Old timer guarding the place.

Robin and I took a walk around. There were no seats available. Robin could not stand it in there. Too many people. I stood out just like I did among the Dancing Dreidels. A guy in a Santa stuck in Chimney Hat amid a sea of cowboys. But I persevered and made a couple of walkabouts filming my experience…so you wouldn’t have to.

Our last stop of the night was the Mirage and their rodeo party. It’s held nightly in the Sportsbook. They have live music. It’s huge and may be the biggest rodeo party in Vegas. Robin lasted about 30 seconds. I went ahead and filmed it. I do it all for you.

And no. I still don’t like country or western.

We Lyfted back to Monte Carlo where we continued to hit the bubonic chronic and walk around aimlessly until the wee hours.

    End of Part 3.

This concludes the Rodeo portion of my trip. I hope some of you learned about the many activities that take place during the National Finals Rodeo. I know I had a great time exploring the events and venues.

Stay tuned for the conclusion to my trip report. We visit the Shark Reef, the Mob Museum, Have another solid Hanukah Dinner, split our substantial profits and make our last stand.

    The Hannakah Rodeo Trip--Conclusion
    Sunday December 17.

We were up and on the road by 10:00 AM. We headed back to Silverton for their Sunday Mimosa Buffet. It was ok….made a little better by the fact that it was free. We used our 2nd $75 food comp for this one.

Back down to Mandalay Bay where we had three things to do:

    1. Robins My Vegas Free Play
    2. Purchase our Win Cards and play our chips ($30 for $20)
    3. Visit the Shark Reef (Free from Robin’s My Vegas Play)

More winning for us. I have to say that the Shark Reef was kind of entertaining, but I don’t think it’s worth the normal $20 price of admission. Of course the My Vegas free tickets made it one hell of a value…Free is good.

I made a little video of Shark Reef.

    So you wouldn’t have to.

From Mandalay Bay, we returned downtown. Parked at El Cortez and made our way to the Mob Museum.

I noticed a couple of weeks earlier that today at 2:00 PM the Museum was having its Monthly Community Safety forum. These forums are sponsored by Nevada Energy in partnership with the Metropolitan Police. We really just wanted to visit the Mob Museum for the lowest possible cost. The lecture on “Traffic Stops: Rights and Responsibilities” was a bonus for us. You get free museum admission when you attend the lecture. Note: you must preregister for the event.

The lecture was presented by a LVMPD sergeant. He was very knowledgeable, but the PowerPoint presentation was a little dry. Robin fell asleep. One important fact: If you are a passenger in a car, you can refuse to show identification as long as you are not a suspect in a crime. They still ask, but you don’t have to tell. The presentation was capped off with the highly appropriate box of donuts.

In honor of Hannakah, our focus at the Museum was Jewish Mobsters. Yes, we were focused on The Kosher Nostra. With movies like Casino, you kind of get the idea that Vegas was controlled by the Italian Mafia. Although there was Italian Mafia influence, the Jewish Gangsters also had a big impact on Vegas. They included folks like:

    Hyman Abrams
    Israel "Ice pick Willie" Alderman
    David Berman
    Herbert Blitzstein
    Mickey Cohen
    Moe Dalitz
    Gus Greenbaum
    Meyer Lansky
    Moe Sedway
    And Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel

Meyer Lansky was never found guilty of anything more serious than illegal gambling. He was partners with Bugsy Siegel in the Flamingo and took over upon Siegel’s ‘untimely death’. He was known as The Mob’s Accountant and was in many partnerships with the Italian Mafia.

What we got here is a failure to communicate

    More Mob Memorabilia.

Picture of Bugsy inside our next stop….Siegel’s at El Cortez.

I have to say that the Mob Museum was kind of entertaining, but I don’t think it’s worth the normal $20 price of admission. Combining it with the lecture made it one hell of a value…Free is good.

Walked back to the Tez for tonight’s Chanukah Dinner
    [IMG]
It was one hell of a deal as they gave us the club member’s price AND let us use the LVA 2 4 1 Entrée deal. About 10 bucks each.

    Surprisingly nice homemade Matzo Soup.

    Chicken Liver and Onions.

A tasty Beef Brisket with Latkes and Pasta.

Another very nice Hannakah meal..and quite the value. We played additional Free Play at El Cortez before returning to the Monte Carlo.

The next order of business was to ‘Split the Goods’.
A tidy $600 profit for each of us.

We walked down to Cosmopolitan where I had a Verbena and a few Bombay Sapphire martinis. Feeling no pain! An Australian couple sat next to me. It was their first visit to Vegas. They were losing their butts and asked how I was doing. I told them ‘I’m winning, but I have a System. I always win’. They just laughed. Then, I gave them the Cosmopolitan Wicked Spoon 2 fer from the LVA MRB. They had planned to eat there at full price in the morning anyway. Then we gave them all of our unused coupon books which were still carrying and I explained Match Plays, Free Slot Plays and Players Club Sign Up bonuses. They were dutifully impressed. I think we created some new coupon Gigolos! Robin and I then just walked around City Center and back to Monte Carlo…Hitting the ol’ Vape Pen whenever it suited us.

    Monday December 18--Homecoming
    [IMG]
The Monte Carlo is Coming Down. At least the façade is.

We had plans to Head Out to GVR and do the Stations Buffet where they have a special Hanukkah setup. Instead, we decided to drive to our Silverton Home Base. We had the buffet again (1/2 off LVA). We always plan a Last Stand in Vegas. This is where we take some of our winnings and actually risk it gambling. Silverton seemed like the perfect fit for our last stand since they had been so nice to us. We had the room until Tuesday, so we could just hang out here, finish our weed and gamble. I gave Robin $600 to hold for me so I would be a guaranteed winner and set out with my $200 Last Stand Stake. I played Craps…and Lost. I played Black Jack and Lost. I played Slots and Lost. I was down to my last few dollars and then this happened.

    I was a Thousandaire. WooHoo!

Then all too quickly, it was time to go. We returned the Luxury XTS to the McCarren Rental Car facility and flew home to Fresno. And that was that.

In retrospect, it was quite a trip. Unlike our usual trips, we attended no shows and didn’t hit a single Happy Hour. I didn’t get really drunk, but got really high. Of course we missed Big Elvis again, but still managed to hit many of our trip goals. And we were both winners. That’s hard to beat….and there’s always next year…Where I finally intend to make my world standup comedy debut at Sapphire’s Open Mic Night…wearing my Giant Inflatable Penis costume. That will be different.

Until Then, Mazel Tov & Happy Trails!

Sooo glad you finished the report... I got hooked reading the first posts, and then it was "where'd he go?!?"

It was (almost like) investigative reporting and gambling mixed together ... [emoji16] and I loved it!!
I, for one, appreciate all that you did, so we wouldn't have to, haha!

Congrats on the good luck and taking cash home, and thanks so much for a very fun read!

Thank you for your kind word, Texas Steph. Sometimes my business interrupts my trip reporting. I'm going to do something about that some day. If you enjoyed the investigative aspects of The Hanukkah Rodeo trip, you might also like last year's Trip Report: Vegas Freaks.

Chanukah comes early this year, 12/2. Maybe I'll plan a trip knowing there are places that "represent" with special menus, etc. Made me hungry with those pictures! My daughter joined me one year in Vegas during Chanukah and we brought a mini-menorah to light our candles.

Nice. And note the 2018 National Finals Rodeo is also earlier this year. It runs December 6-15. So you could do your very own 2018 Chanukah Rodeo Trip! That's not possible in 2019, but is again in 2020.

For what it's worth, our pre-trip research uncovered several other special dinner offerings. We were very tempted by the Lamb Chop Sirlon at MB Steak at Hard Rock, but just couldn't fit it in. Here are the others we considered:

At MB Steak at the Hard Rock Hotel, it’s Colorado lamb chop sirloin with toasted barley, escarole, potato-carrot latkes, roasted garlic gremolata and currant lamb jus $49.

Honey Salt celebrates Hanukkah Dec. 12-20 with crisp potato latkes with apple sauce and sour cream for $10; matzo ball soup for $9; slow-roasted short rib with honey-glazed carrots, tzimmes, and fingerling potatoes for $29; Mary’s organic chicken breast with grilled asparagus and onion jus for $27; and Hanukkah doughnuts for $8. Nab the entire meal (one of each appetizer and entree) for $42.

DOWNTOWN SUMMERLIN — Andiron Steak & Sea celebrates Hanukkah Dec. 12-20 with Grandma Rose’sslow-roasted brisket with honey-glazed carrots, tzimmes, and roasted potatoes for $31; Mary’s organic chicken breast with grilled asparagus and onion jus for $27; and Andiron jelly doughnuts for $9. Order the entire meal (one of each appetizer and entree) for $45.

SUNCOAST — St. Tropez Buffet serves a Hanukkah menu from Tuesday, Dec. 12, to Wednesday, Dec. 20. The buffet will be serving gefilte fish, stuffed cabbage, tzimmes, kugel, potato latkes, honey bundt cake, beef brisket, smoked whitefish and matzo ball soup.

And from the bonus video department, I don't understand Deal or No Deal.

Great report. Lots of good info.

I did something similar Silverton. $800 in about 45 mins. Total tilt. I normally cheapskate gamble like you. I got great offers, but knew I wouldn' be able to use them. So I sent my players card to family in Vegas. They played $300 - $50 a month for 5 months. No more offers.

It's great when the variance is on your side with all the free plays.
