Well at least it won't be one of those places for only the elite. I mean, people walking.......most casinos don't cater to those people much anymore.

I can't be the only one who thinks naming a brand new casino hotel after your son who tragically died of a drug overdose is a bad idea, right? In addition to the fact that the Drew is just a weird name for a casino.

I dunno. I think an Elvis themed casino would go over big.

The area around it is just so creepy and desolate. It's going to take ALOT to fix up that side of the strip and sadly, I don't think Resorts World or The Drew Brees will be enough of a jolt to get things going.

I get the pun, but my guess is that it's more along the line that it was an easy domain name to obtain.

Surf here: https://www.thedrew.com and look behind the scenes. :)

You are not alone Cleo. With all of the superstitions in Vegas Lore, not walking through a Lions mouth, not having a 13th floor. Not having a floor that start with 4 ETC. I understand wanting to pay tribute to your dead kid, but maybe name a pool deck after him? Or a club? Maybe if Drew was an Icon, but (from what I can tell) he lived off his parents money and died young.

Elvis would make for a great casino! And who wouldn't want to stay at a Michael Jackson themed casino, complete with stuffed monkeys and Elephant man bones? Naming a casino after people known for being Icons, and who are remembered for their talents and contributions, is a bit different then naming a resort after your son who OD'ed in a Celebrity Rehab clinic, after cheating drug tests while in house and wandering off to buy dope at the age of 22.

Everything about it is just sad. His young age makes it even sader. And it will be sad thoughts associated with those that know why the resort is named what it is named.

I don't think people have those same sad thoughts walking through a garish Elvis or MJ themed casino, even though they both OD'ed in the end as well.

You make a good point. Here's another. Probably 99% of the people walking through the Drew, will never have any clue about this guy.

In the days of old, you would be correct. In the days of social media and wiki fandom, maybe 75% of people wouldn't know. All of the news releases on this, so far, have pretty much been written like this:

"The Drew Las Vegas appears to be named after Andrew Witkoff, the son of real estate mogul Steven Witkoff. Andrew “Drew” Witkoff died of an OxyContin overdose in 2011"

And I'm sure mention of "Drew" will be made at ground breaking, and at the rope drop, and in many many articles leading up to the opening. And its a fun fact when discussing Vegas History. "You're staying at the Drew? Did you know it was named after a millionaires dead junky son?"

That's a little different then mentioning the Wynn, Binions, Jerry's Golden Nugget, Terribles or any other place that has/had a persons name tied to it.

Right or wrong, I still think it's a misstep and my money will be on a name change before the opening.

How many people are reading those? I can promise, it's almost none of the people who go to Vegas. I guess we will disagree on this, and that's fine.

That is what makes America great! We dont have to agree to stay pals. In my parting note, how many people, in the masses that ascend into Vegas each year, even know why they don't have a 4th, or 40th - 49th floor in their hotel? And yet Vegas still builds hotels without them. So even if the minority stays clueless, Vegas still has a history of hedging their bets when it comes to things such as being associated with death.

For the record, 4 is well known to be an unlucky number because it sounds similar to 死 (sǐ), which means "death" in Chinese...

Why don't they just stick with Fontainebleau? It's certainly better than The Drew.

Personally I think they should call it the Generic, with a boutique hotel operating on the top 5 floors called The Nondescript.

I wanted to play the name game as well. So I looked up the Witkoff portfolio of hotel holdings.

Here are some of the awesome names they gave their other Hotels:

Hotel in West Hollywood is named: West Hollywood Edition Hotel
Hotel in the Washington Park Dist of South Beach is called: Washington Park Hotel
Hotel on Central Park in New York is called: Park Lane Hotel

I'm not making these up. "The Drew" actually sounds like their best naming choice ever!
