Tipping on a handpay

Last night I hit this huge win on buffalo gold at my local casino. This was the largest I ever hit, so I had no idea what to tip the two slot attendants. What would be the normal tip for each of them with this size of a win??

 

12k win?, you dont tip each of them, you give them both a single tip for them to divide as they want, I think $100 would be plenty.

 

Great win. Couple of $20s would be fine. $100 is not overboard, but would be very appreciated by folks that already get paid for doing this work.

 

I was on track then. I gave each of them $40 so a total of $80. Watching that bonus was amazing.

 

I think that's fine, you didn't have to give them anything, did they seem to appreciate it?

As I had stated in a Trip report, I spoke with the Slot Attendant at Planet Hollywood.

He stated:

1)They share tips
2)They are paid from the tip pool twice a month
3)The tip pool proceeds are typically $800-$1200 per payout per attendant, so $1600-2400 a Month

 

I recently responded to this question on another board, saying I don't normally tip, but thats not exactly true. I do tip $20 to the slot attendant if they are nice and actually talk to me. I've had several where they don't say a word, just come over, take out my card and get down to their business. I will not tip the suit. I have realized I tip much better and way more freely, if I have been drinking and am on a winning streak. If I am sober and just pounding away, taking big losses, then hitting a hand pay, I'm more like oh thank god. At that point I may or may not tip, lol

 

There use to be a time where we had slot people standing around or on a platform between slot machines giving you inside scoop on which machines were primed to payout (haven't paid out in awhile). Back then I could see giving a tip. These days what do they do? In my opinion, nothing except get your tax info.

 

Received 2 hand pays. Both $2K each. Both $0 tip.
Maybe if I hit a 5 or 6 digit hand pay I may tip......may.

 

I never played at Mermaids (downtown) a second time because I hated the girls shilling for tips . . . although there was one that had a black eye while I was there that was tempting.

 

The shills at the old Sassy Sally's used to do this all the time! "This one's due to hit very soon." {imagine appropriate accent in here}

 

Tipping discussions always get under my skin on these boards.

It appears we were all raised a little differently from each other. I'm glad my parents taught me the concept of generosity.

I can't believe multiple people suggested the OP was an idiot for tipping generously.... mind-boggling.

 

For international visitors it would be worth tipping the attendant if they go to the extra effort to arrange you an ITIN number (sic) and get you the tax free payout.

 

It is my habit to tip each of the slot attendants 1/2 of the total. They "pool" tips anyway, but this way I have two times the karma flowing.

Not a custom, just a gambling superstition of "paying it forward".

 

If you chipped both slot attendants half of the total then you would've tipped all of your hand pay!

 

Wonder how much the slot attendant makes in tips? She must give out dozens of handpays a day.

 

I meant "1/2 the total tip".

If it's $40, then $20 each. if it's $80, then $40 each. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

 

I have only had 1 hand pay, a royal flush for $1200, at The Wynn. I think I tipped $40, it was a few years ago. I don't remember a lot of hangers on, maybe just the person paying me. Strangely enough, there are times I'll sit there thinking I hope I don't get a royal because then I'll have to deal with the awkwardness of the tip. Sometimes my social anxiety gets the best of me, although I'm sure I'd be very happy with the royal!

 

I sat next to "the world's biggest tipper" once at a Pai Gow table at Boulder Station; this guy was tipping ridiculously. If he won $25 he'd tip the dealer $20. If he won $100 on a hand he'd tip $75. It was crazy. I think I said to him "the dealers must really like you here." His response was "as soon as I run out of money they won't give a crap about me."
