Yeah, retires from touring but says he will continue writing songs and releasing albums. Father time will eventually get us all!
One of his many songs was the classic “I’m A Believer,” first recorded by The Monkees, then much later by Smash Mouth. thanks, Neil!
Was sad to see this on the news today. I most recently saw him in concert a few years ago here in Canada and it was a fabulous show. Currently in Aruba where every night we have heard and sang along to Sweet Caroline....ba ba ba....so good, so good, so good!
that's too bad... one of my poker/vegas friends does a neil diamond tribute. he auditioned in vegas years ago,but it didn't pan out..... here's a promo video of him pack up the babys and grab the old ladys..
He sang lots of great sing-along-in-the-barn hits! Sending my best to Mr. Diamond and his family, friends, and fans. Here's my favorite Neil Diamond tune: RICHARD
One of my best childhood road trips was to KC to see the Royals play. My Pops playing Johnny Cash on the 8 track and my Mom buying a Neil Diamond at a truck stop. Pops "Damn Joy you are not playing no rock n roll in my new Buick." That Cash 8 track got tossed out the window. After 6 days of my Mom and Pops not talking to each other, Neil Diamond is still my ear worm.
Until just a couple if years ago i had no idea that he was an actual star. I thought he was like an elvis impersonator, sort of like how super dave used to be alike an evel knievel clone, I thought neil diamond was like that, just a comedy act. srs. had no idea people actually listened to him.
Here's an interview from NPR discussing this subject from the Diamond, himself, @MikeOPensacola. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4930465 I remember family members saying it was a reference to Caroline Kennedy but I think that's pretty much a Massachusetts thing.
Lucky to have seen him perform three times, emotive and dreamy (yes that dates me). 'You don't bring me flowers' with Streisand is my favorite, but love ' Cracklin' Rosie' and 'Song sung Blue' and 'Sweet Caroline' and 'America' and.....well I like them all. Thanks Neil for a lifetime of your music, wishing you the best.
