    My Trip Report

OK - I just got back from my 8 day trip, had an incredible time. Some thoughts on the three properties I stayed in:

    -Golden Nugget (2 nights)

Still is the class of downtown. Very nice room, with moderate view. Of the three properties I stayed in, this room was the best. The gaming was fine - craps has 6x8x10x and a decent poker room. For what I consider moderate play (6 hours over 2 days with average bet of $70, PaiGow Poker and Craps) we received full RFB comp.

    -Monte Carlo (3 nights)

A very pleasant room, but nothing fancy. Paid an extra $30 a night to get the Monaco Suite - OK but nothing to write home about. Jetted tub made too much noise to be relaxing, shower head was wimpy. On the plus side, extremely friendly and pleasant staff. I went on a tear at the craps table, cashing out +$2000 from a shooter who threw sixes and eights like they were going out of style - the pit boss came out from behind the table, shook my hand and congratulated me! Same amount of gambling (6 hrs at $75 avg bet) got us about $50 in meals comped, nothing off room - very disappointing. I usually get partial RFB for this level at the Luxor. Brew pub is hit and miss - first night was wonderful food, second was rather mediocre. Overall a good property for moderate prices on the strip at a pretty good location. I'd probably choose Luxor over MC next time, but either would be an adequate choice.

    -Plaza (3 nights)

Man - is this place getting threadbare and run down. I still LOVE the Plaza, but its really getting long in the tooth. I hope the new owners will throw some money at this place, because in my opinion it is oozing potential. Check-in staff were terrible, but everyone else was very chatty and pleasant - although I got the sense most employees are nervous about the future. Maid service was OUTSTANDING. Buffet is cheap, for a reason. Avoid like the plague. Good news is that the diner has re-opened, and serves excellent hangover-curing greasy breakfasts. I didn't see what my gaming stats were, but received full RFB and was treated very nicely by my new host (my previous host has gone to the ElCo). Probably consistent with my other hotel visits. I'll stay at the Plaza again, but they gotta fix some problems (like the ugly carpet in the rooms, the stupid check-in process and incompetent hotel desk staff) and the general outdated feel of the property.

    Other observations:

El Cortez - has come a long way. Had a great time there, even though the dealers are all trainees, and I made over a grand at craps. The casino is very nicely updated. Jackie still plays in the 3-6 Hold'Em game all day which I think is a neat touch. Had a mailer in my box waiting for me when I got home with free room offers etc...

Main Street Station - Buffet is incredibly good value. With the Plaza at $6.99 and the Main Street at $8.49 - its simply no comparison. What a spread for a discount buffet.

Golden Gate - still number one deli as far as I'm concerned, but what a sad comment that they don't have black chips at their craps table, and their slots are all attendant pay. What is the deal with the gaming here???

Bellagio Buffet - Still number one in my books.

Presidential Limo - Rob (who is a regular on these boards) did an incredible job with my party of 34, and everyone had a fantastic time. If you need limo services make sure you contact him directly - I highly recommend his service.

Stratosphere rides - not for the faint of heart.

I agree with you. This last weekend they had the hotel way overbooked and the people that work the desk were in a terrible mood. I also agree about the feelings of the employees feeling nervous and most of them are actively looking elsewhere for employment.
