    My Trip Report

Guess who's back? Leaving on Tuesday, but just getting things off to a rolling start now!

So, you know how I said my recent trip down would be the last one for a while? Yeah. I lied.

Not in a degenerate "omg I gotta get back to Vegas" sense... but rather, an "I need to be in California on Friday just for a party, and as long as I'm going to spend $500 on a flight anyway, I'd rather spend most of it in Vegas than Silicon Valley" sense.

If you thought that my last trip was remarkably brief, but still jam-packed... wait until you see this trip.

I head out on the evening of Tuesday October 31st. Which means I'll get to celebrate Halloween in two different countries on the same day. Super cool, right?

The ever-complicating twist of this trip is that when I go to California, I'm not staying anywhere. I'm flying in at 11:00 am, and leaving at 7:00 am the next day, staying awake the whole time. Aside from needing a lot of coffee, I also need to keep my packing very compact, since I'll need to be able to comfortably take my luggage around with me without looking homeless.

So it's one man, a backpack, and an airtight schedule to get about 200 hours' worth of debauchery into 59 hours and 20 minutes. Think I can do it? We'll find out!

Quick rundown of what's in store...
    - Checking out the Halloween festivities on Tuesday evening, which will be kicked off by some beer and chicken wings at Hooters just to keep it classy.
    - Playing the 10:00 and 1:00 poker tournaments at Sam's Town on both Wednesday and Thursday.
    - Dinner at Ichabod's on Flamingo East, taking the owner up on his kind offer to try his place with some comp vouchers.
    - Seeing Fantasy at Luxor on a MyVegas comp
    - Dinner at Zeffirino again (get excited for this one... it's going to be an absolute FEAST)
    - More low-rolling on Longhorn's $2 blackjack and El Cortez's $1 roulette
    - Visiting Little Darling's for some completely sober adult entertainment

In my usual fashion, I've timed everything out to a T on my handy whiteboard...

Looking forward to any and all encouragement and kind words. First photos will be posted early Tuesday evening as I have my Toronto celebrations of Halloween.

What are you doing in Mountain View on Friday? Quara conference?
And you’re flying from LAS to SJC for a day then out of SFO later that night? Damn I don’t envy you...

I'm already exhausted looking at that itinerary.

    Have a great trip.

Quora - it's a question-and-answer website, I'm sure you've come across it. I'm one of the top writers on the website and we have a meetup for top writers twice a year. This time it's at Quora's head office in Mountain View.

And you are correct. It's quite a trek, but I really didn't have much of any other choice. I have to be at work the next evening (that's the restaurant industry for ya), and the flights just worked out that way.

It's not as bad as it looks. From SJC, there's a tram you can take to Mountain View. I then have a SuperShuttle taking me directly from Mountain View to SFO airport. Won't be the easiest trip of my life, but certainly won't be the hardest.

Hahaha. Basically, no one seems to be able to make up their mind when it comes to making MyVegas redemptions for show tickets.

More specifically, I tried to reserve a comp ticket to Fantasy at the Luxor. Their policy says that you have to collect the tickets at the box office before 4:00 pm on the day of the show. For me, that's not possible to do. I called in, and they said that they don't enforce that policy. Took their word for it, got the reward, and reserved it on MLife. Then I got a digital Ticketmaster copy of the ticket, which... is... the ticket, isn't it? Googling around, people seem to be saying that you can get in with this, since you already have your ticket. Being the type to be 110% sure about things, I called in again, and they said "they'll scan that and tell you to go to the box office". When I gave the rebuttal that "this is the ticket, isn't it?", they made excuses and couldn't come up with a firm answer.

So this is about as clear as mud to me. I supposedly have a ticket, but I also supposedly don't have a ticket, and nobody at MGM seems to be able to give me an answer.

As you can see, I'm on a very tight schedule, and I can say with complete certainty that I'm not going to be some customer service rep's administrative assistant for so much as a second of my trip. Which is there the f***ing up comes in. As soon as I get to the strip, I'm going to go to the box office with my Ticketmaster printout, $6 in cash (for the "service charge"/live entertainment tax), and my photo ID, plunk it all down and essentially say "make it work".

I don't mean to come across as an asshole in doing so, but I have no patience when businesses make it my job to "figure it out". I'm not paying them for problems, I'm paying them for solutions. So if I have to go to the box office... fine. But that is the maximum extent of my involvement. If it f***ing them up is part of the process, then that's what it is. Anticipating that it might come to that, I'm going in with an objective to f*** them up. If I don't have to, everybody wins. If I do have to, it's not like I didn't come prepared.

What it feels like to me is that they're trying to make the redemption of MyVegas rewards as difficult as possible, and I'm not playing along with whatever charade they might have going. They got my points, and they'll have my ticket/service charge/LET/photo ID. That's everything they need. The rest is their responsibility.

My super-compact baggage, with my jacket and scarf for the trip.

My poker equipment, with the knowledge I'll have to both fidget and bluff at the poker table.

My socks, because if you don't have emojis on your socks, what are you doing with your life?

My selfie with the most life-changing human I have ever met, and who I had my costume dedicated to, as part of my Toronto Halloween celebrations before I head to Vegas.

Now just waiting for the train to the airport, and I am off to the races!!!!

Security at Pearson was a ghost town. They were talking about "be three hours early". Hahahahaha. Yeah, right. 1.5 hours early, and 2 IPAs already downed. Ready to roll!

I generally have nothing good to say about airport food. But this burger from Wahlburgers was actually exceptional. Between F65 and F67 in Pearson Terminal 1, if anyone's curious.

Safely in my window seat, more ready than ever to VEGAS!

Got my pump-up music, and my Kindle reads at the ready. Less than five hours from now, I'll be in the holy land with lots more pictures for you guys!

See you all in Vegas :D

LOVE the white board, including with the outfits, and the super light packing. An odd observation I'll admit but the boarding area for the tram, as well as Pearson, look so nice and clean. :)

    Have a great trip!

Enjoy your trip! I live west of Pearson so from home I can't use it ,but am wondering how the UP is? Would consider taking it from downtown if I had to catch a flight after work one time as is much cheaper than a cab.

Have a great trip, as far as Motley Crue I would switch out Kickstart with either Live Wire or Red Hot...
