I rarely deviate, and only if I'm playing for a pretty high progressive, or a fixed $1199 royal.

Assuming they can find the rest of the paytable to be the same of course, progressives are great for those who want to chase 3 to a royal.

Hell "Chase The Royal" is a good game for those who want to chase 3 to a Royal. Hard to find though (old all star units) and paytables suck often unless you find bonus poker.

Hmmmm. OK this is stupid but I'm bored - what if they came out with a machine called "Royal Or Nothing" lol? What would a royal pay if the payback % was 98% and it didn't matter how many coins you played? [Probability of royal] * 0.98?

Well, the "Royal Only Strategy" increases the probability of a royal from about 1 in 40,000 to 1 in 23,080.75. So to have 98% optimal payback the royal would need to pay 23,080.75 x .98 = 22,619.14 for 1.

Actually, the game I suggested earlier, "Chase the Royal", has a royal probability higher than this. In that game, you're allowed to exchange a pair of dealt face cards for a randomly chosen set of 3 cards to a royal flush with increased flush and straight payouts to make "going for it" always correct.

Now talking about it, I sorta want to light a $20 on fire and play it. One of my locals, Ameristar St. Charles, still has it for 3 line nickels with 6/5 Bonus (98.54%). The odds of hitting a Royal in that version is 1 in 9289. Variance is 79.2. By comparison, TDB is 98-100 and DDB is 42.

Wow, I've never even thought about how chasing would affect probability, duh. Makes me feel a little better about chasing when I'm playing VP if I have to wait for my room to be ready.
