Again, on the range thing, you don't need a range when your methodology is massed fire toward a confined space. That's what the desert is for.

Jail is a horrible place no matter how bad of a celebrity a person is especially if you are getting suites as a comped. :)

10/4 on that! I sat on the Nevada Prison Industries Board for years and have toured my share of municipal jails as well. I learned I don't EVER want to find myself in one of those joints!

We had lunch brought-in at the garment factory in Lovelock Prison and ate with the inmates (about 25 of them) once. Remember these are the "good" ones A) for being assigned there and B) for being selected to work in the shop... anyways a tool got misplaced and we had to stay locked-in there until the tool was recovered. It took a couple hours and was found under some bench, but the extra couple hours hangin'-out with these dudes was really more than we bargained for.

If your tally runs to 600+ people are you the kind of person who frets what being in the can might be like?

Electro, I have been indirectly involved with 2 of the biggest shootings in Hawaii history. My former boss and friend is the brother of the Xerox shooter that killed 6 people. At the time of the shooting it was a number of years (over 10) since I worked with him but before the shooting we got together annually or every 2 or 3 years on the weekend between xmas and new years. We had some common friends who would get together regularly (since many of us left the islands) to reconnect with college friends. After the shooting he stopped attending those get togethers and a couple of years later we stopped with the annual get togethers. From what my friends (that knew the shooter) said the shooter did have anger issues but nobody could have imagined him snapping and killing his coworkers.

The other was the Mililani shooter that shot and killed 3 people (surfing couple and a friend) in 1996. The shooter was a former coworker. We worked together, he was an accountant, I was the IT guy. We regularly chatted and he seemed like a regular mild mannered guy. He was kind of "nerdy" and showed no signs of instability or anger. It was hard to fathom that 4 years after we both left the department that he would go out and kill 3 people. But the word was that he had issues with his neighbors and they would do things to piss him off. They would block his driveway, sometimes would be up late at night making noise. I think he just snapped but it sounded like there were lots of issues with the neighbors that caused him to go "postal". There was no way that I could have imagined him killing people but I guess there was a sequence of events that finally make him snap.

After both shootings the public came out about the shooters being "evil" and being madmen and there were lot of comments like yours and others but the problem is that something made them snap. The Xerox shooter I think was unstable to begin with and something pushed him over the edge. The Mililani shooter I think mentally snapped because of the way his neighbors treated him. You would hope that people would consider moving or something to get away from the problems but unfortunately anything can happen when people get into a rage.

Anyway people are saying the same thing about the vegas shooter and unfortunately we may never know what happened or what caused him to do what he did. I know some people want him to "rot in hell" but I look at these shooters as being nut jobs and something caused them to snap to kill people.

I know that many people want to make sense of these shootings and like the tv shows and movies they want everything packaged and explained all in 1 hour but unfortunately it may take some time before all information is gathered and hopefully they can determine what or why the guy decided to murder 58 people. But be prepared that we may never find the reasons. I know that people think that there would be telltale signs of a person snapping but sometimes that is not so, the other problem is that nobody - friends, coworkers and family would even think that someone they know would go postal and kill people so they wouldn't have called the cops unless they really felt he was going to do something bad.

Yes, exactly. There's a lot of wild, reckless speculation in the media about how he could have created a "huge explosion" that might have been enough to "take down the hotel tower".

Utter nonsense. A tank full of jet fuel just isn't explosive in the way the movies make us believe. If he got extremely lucky, he might have started an impressive looking, but slow-burning fire, and that's it. It would not have been a danger to the people at the concert, let alone the hotel or houses nearby.

Yep. If it were able to explode that easily, we would have explosions that happen all the time. Just like how cars don't actually go up in flames because they simply crash into something.

Little drips of info this morning.

They have a cell phone type charger that doesn't match any of the shooters devices from the suite. Don't know what I'm supposed to infer from that.

And NBC doesn't understand how gambling works:
I want to see the win/loss reports.

There is going to be a LVMPD press conference at 1:15. I'll try to tune in for it.

I don’t like how they keep implying gambling could be the reason he did this. Just as Aspergers Syndrome/Autism was why that psycho piece of shit shot up an elementary school....like there already isn’t enough stigma on those on the spectrum or on those who gamble......

The media always reporting things out there and see what sticks. From being a loner, gambler , moaning and yelling on his sleep. My SO as I typed this is calling the FBI field office because I moan, yell on my sleep and I like casino. The shooter and I have the same net worth but I eat ramen soup. I hope I can post bail after FBI interrogation.

Don't ratings come from eyeballs on the screen? Seems to me consumers are getting what they want, then.

This was a quick press conference. Here are my notes:

    Under Sargeant McMahill:

LVMPD and cooperating agencies have researched 1000s of leads. They have heard the rumors about an ISIS connection, but have found no leads that indicate that is true. They have no credible information to report, as to motive. (He reiterated this point again later in the presser.)

"We must focus on truth and facts." "All the rumor and speculation has not been helpful to our investigation."

"Most terror attacks have a very clear message, message left, video, emails, etc. We have not uncovered any of that."

Jesus Campos (security guard) is a true hero: "He was dispatched to a door alarm on 32nd floor. Went up to investigate the alarm. Was shot in the leg. Remarkable effort by a brave and remarkable man. He is an absolute hero."

re: Tannerite and other materials: "We don't know what he was going to do with that and we are continuing to try to find out."

FBI Agent Rouse: They are starting an information campaign, seeking true information. Billboards are going up throughout the area. "If you know something, say something". 1800-CALL-FBI. "This is critical for us. We have not stopped, will not stop until we have the truth."

Chair of Clark County Commission Sisolak: Official name of investigation: "1October"

    Media questions:

re: Misinformation: "We have a responsibility to run down all leads, rumor and supposition takes staff away from legitimate leads."

re: Rumors they have recovered a video of the shooter, explaining motive, found in the room? "Not aware of any such video."

Have you found evidence of an accomplice? "I can tell you, we are confident that there was not another shooter in that room. We can't yet confirm that someone did not know about the incident he had planned."

Tannerite - Was this used in an IED? "When we found it, it didnt look like IED."

MBay video evidence turned up anything new? "There is voluminous amounts of video from Mandalay Bay and other sources. We have not found evidence of another person in the room."

Was someone else using his room key when he left the hotel? "We don't believe that happened."

Mental health information? "We are continuing to investigate that. We are looking at every aspect of the suspect from birth to death."

"It is imperative the public has clear understanding. There are a number of people who saw something out of place. Something looked or sounded odd in the weeks or months before this incident. If you know something, say something."

    ========
Not much new there. It's pretty clear from body language and tone that the LVMPD are annoyed with all the conspiracy theories and false leads they have to waste time chasing down. It's also clear that they are determined to get answers in this case.

New is that the security guard was responding to a "door alarm". I'm not aware of hotel rooms having that kind of alarm, but often stairwell doors and elevator doors will. I'm hoping to find more information on this.

Well one thing we know for sure is he had a hell of a lot of stuff left then what he used that night. Also and maybe I'm wrong but doesn't all the other events he checked out have one thing in common, mostly young people?

I'm not so sure about that... I'm certainly no psychologist, but I feel like a guy like him, who from what we know, had money and a stable life, at least in adulthood and seems to be pretty much a loner would be tortured every day in prison. As horrific as this massacre was, I feel like there's a bit of a disconnect to the carnage by being 4 football fields away. Different than say a stabbing, or close range shooting or using a vehicle to mow people down. I don't know... I don't wanna get to deep into this, but I honestly think for a guy like that suicide or suicide by cop was the only "out".

I was listening to this press-conference while in the car and I too took note of that... I wonder if they meant the stairwell door, as I heard previously the shooter somehow blocked that door. But then there's still that information that the door to the suite was ajar when they arrived... so? Perhaps the High Roller suites have such technology... I'd sure never heard of it either.

Oh maybe. Anyone stay in one of these rooms and notice a sensor on the doors?

An interesting profile of the shooter in the LV Sun.
