But Cosmo doesn’t look down on an OPEN field..a LOT of cover on the ground down there...
However, I’d of thought Luxor would have had a more clear shot at the route 91 festival...but maybe it isn’t tall enough?

Not really jumping your shit, Tim. I just find it ironic that folks rail nonstop on the media for being speculative, then engage in all matter of speculation. I know it's human nature. So maybe the media is just doing what commercial enterprises do, giving customers what they want.

    Yes. This. So much this!

I love a conspiracy theory as much as the next person. There was a guy who owned a funky head shop in a town near here and I loved stopping by to hear his latest theory. My favorite was that Jim Morrison was the second coming of Christ and what's why the CIA had him murdered. However, I didn't go to him to find out any kind of breaking news. :)

I have my own theories and ideas about this particular incident, but I'm trying not to bring them too much into this. I've seen some crazy stuff out there on the fringes and in some "mainstream media" outlets. It's hard not to get sucked into them. In this thread, I'm trying to bring as much factual reporting as I can to help people sort out the story.

This article says some Vegas balconies detect cigarette butts coming off. Sorry, still in my phone so copy paste etc sucks. Maybe Cosmo has that http://www.reuters.com/article/us-las-vegas-shooting-plan/how-the-las-vegas-shooter-foiled-a-well-drilled-counter-terrorism-plan-idUSKBN1CA29N?utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&utm_content=59d67c8404d3015035773a4d&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=twitter

Also walkways are high, not as high but still. And there’s parking garages etc. Even if high rooms somehow get safe, how would you protect everything? There’s crowds everywhere.

There's a bouquet of cameras on the roof of the Jockey Club aimed at the West (and possibly East) Tower of Cosmo. I've never taken a pic, but anybody who's stayed there knows what I'm talking about.

This is the first major event like this that I can't seem to compartmentalize. I have a knack for being able to move on quickly, not let it affect other parts of my life. Probably since Vegas is "my" place, I can't quit watching the coverage. I think that we are all trying to understand what the motivations were to make ourselves feel safe. If we can find his flaw, it makes it an anomaly. We can point to mental disease, financial troubles, being bullied, etc, etc and it suddenly becomes something to look for and that we can point the finger at, and move on. If it turns out that this guy was just an asshole who hated people, well, that leaves loose ends and is scary.

To so many of us, Vegas is a place to escape. We leave our worries and responsibilities behind. Will it ever be that carefree place again? Probably. And probably sooner than it should. But when I go in November, there will certainly be a little somberness hanging over my head throughout the trip, especially when we make our way to the south end.

Really just rambling some thoughts on this.

Totally flippant theory. But we need some mood lightening. Central thread: Country Music. He complained about loud Country Music coming from a nearby room. The concert was Country Music. Some people just hate certain music genres.

I'm having a very difficult time too. Turns out, trying to dig deeper and checking for updates is really jacking me up too. As someone currently in mental health academia, this is coming up in all of my classes and I can't quite get away from it. I'm really really worried for the people who experienced it first hand and watched people/friends get shot down- that's thousands and thousands of attendees who now have a very violent trauma to get through. It triggers mental health concerns for many people and that's one of the worst things for me after enduring/overcoming my own trauma.

Vegas is a place of escape, associations, but so are many places. Folks here are keyed in because it is Vegas, but folks who run the Boston Marathon, who work for San Bernardino County, who send kids to Sandy Hook are just as keyed in to those places, and that is what we need to remember. Vegas isn't Heaven, it's not sacrosanct. It's just one of any number of places that folks like or frequent, or hold as a cornerstone part of their lives. These tragedies are about place. And mostly about people. We should be as affected by this as Orlando, as Oklahoma City.

For the most part, we as the VMB community, have been.
And sadly, caught up in it now.
Guess it will take a bit of time for all to come together on this.

People want to be able to say, "See! I told you!"

    It's the CSI Syndrome
