Open letter to Derek Stevens

I totally agree with the poster who begs to have slotzilla removed, it was originally just supposed to be temporary and not only is permanent but expanded and totally ruins the end to end look of the experience. SLAY SLOTZILLA,
Like the idea of high end place to compete with the Nuggett and in some ways DTG
Would love to see Dupars again, or the original coffee shop at GG
Would love (although unreal expectation) the 99 cent shrimp cocktail to reappear
Just want something different that the D and GG, different frozen drinks, different feel, nicer property would be great, better pool, and nightclub sounds like it would be a winner. Perhaps a real showroom and real shows (cirque, a-list headliners, a-list comedians, etc).
A nice lounge like the Rush lounge with entertainment (saw frankie moreno there before he was doing showrooms and that band was incredible in such a small venue)

 

Agree Slotzilla is a huge eyesore. Whatever he does at LVC I hope the speakers are weaker so a person in their 50's can have a conversation with anyone. Dancing girls do nothing for me. If I want that, I will go the strip clubs where they are nicer for sure. I have been a DT person for years and hate the strip. But now when I go DT I find myself gambling just at Main street, plaza, DTG and California. I don't even walk down freemont street. I am not afraid to walk as I still venture to El Cortez often. Crowds, noise, music blaring and generally crappy BJ rules have turned Freemont street sour. I spend more and more time at locals and boulder highway joints.

I have so many great memories at LVC,( Gene Barrick and prior days) I hope Dereck builds something I can enjoy again.

 

Shortly after Slotzilla spots being profitable, it will be gone. Between the temporary predecessor and Slotzilla (which cost over $15 million to build), there is clearly a market for ziplining over downtown. Time to accept it as we do any other visuals and activities in Las Vegas.

 

I guess I'm in the minority here, but Slotzila doesn't bother me. Maybe because no one has puked on me yet while walking down Fremont.

 

15 million. Holy Moley crap. Let's see, 40$ a ride, 25,000 rides per million, 15x 25,000= 375,000 rides then you have to go back and pay insurance and staff for those 375,000 rides + interest + maintenance for safety unless financed with cash....did the originator of this help with the cosmo/vdara design / construction? I never dreamed 15 million. From the strip MGM to the D 15 million maybe.
Luggage rack not included of course. Want a luggage rack take the wax.

 

The only thing I accept is that it'll come down one day, like everything else that's built in Vegas. I'm just hoping sooner rather than later.

 

Yeah, I think we'd all love to see Dupars back again, but I'm pretty sure the owner is gone. But, something like it would be really nice. Downtown needs a good 24/7 cafe.

 

...bring back Bay City Diner... it was better than Dupar's anyway...

 

the dug out café at the old Las Vegas Club would be great to come back. Gamblers specials were great before bed time. The station casino's have brought back those days with great deals after midnight. Now that El Cortez café has changed late night eating downtown is tough and crowded.

 

California has the Market St. Café. For Hawaii people it is great because there are a lot of local Hawaiian selections. Plus at night they have the oxtail soup, highly recommended.

Yeah, other than that there isn't much selection for late night eateries downtown.

 

777 at MSS serves until 7 AM, then closes and reopens at 11 AM. Their overnight menu is decent with a large variety and the prices are reasonable.

 

I hear you. I have many fond memories of the 70s and 80s Vegas, when it was like that. Whether you arrived in your private jet, or rumbled in your family Plymouth, everybody could go to Vegas and have a good time, lots of good food, and a good bed to sleep in. Yes, you could blow through a million bucks in a few minutes, but the guy who worked for minimum wage down in the supply room could go, too, and maybe come back with a few extra bucks and a spiffy "Las Vegas" t-shirt. Hey, remember those silver dollars? Remember the sound of them clattering down into the slot machine tray? I always brought a couple home just for souvenirs. What fun. All gone.

 

I just hope that they have decent VP at the new place!! There is no doubt that Derek is going to target the GN. I enjoy the vibe of The D, and the GG. I'm excited to see what happens, the opportunity to do something special is definitely there.

 

There is no good VP at the Golden Gate and Derek removed the good VP at the D. So there is no way he will bring good VP to the new place. I think you will see another Golden Nugget and you know how bad the pay tables are there.

Having one owner that owns half the casinos downtown is not a good thing. That is what is wrong with the strip.

 

Boyd owns the Fremont, California and MSS. Perhaps we should call on them to divest?

 

perhaps when they get the new joint open, that place can be the upscale/trendy/loud/whatever place for downtown. and they could convert the D to a joint that offers good gaming in a pleasant atmosphere.

3 for Boyd - MSS, Cal & Fremont
3 for Derek - the D, Golden Gate & (eventually) 18-Fremont.
2 for 4-Queens (4Qs+Binion's)
Plaza

Golden Nugget

So - a total of 12 casinos, with Derek running 3 of them... so, not half...only 1/4....same as Boyd.

the Golden Nugget has a massive 2419 rooms. that is huge for downtown.

I've never spent much time in The D (even when it was Fitz) or GG. I loved the LVC, even when it was clearly headed downhill. Most of my experience downtown is with Boyd or at the ElCo. With that said, I'd much prefer things to be more like the ElCo!

 

Agree highly with this, we stop at least once or twice on our stumble back to the hotel.
