It's been close to 10 years since we last stayed at Rio, but I was able to get 4 out of 5 nights comped so we will give it a try. What I need is info on which tower to request and what restaurants are there now. I think the only restaurant besides the Voo Doo Longe that is left from the last time we stayed is the Buffet and I know they combined the Seaffod buffet into the main one. If I remember correctly the Ipanema Tower was the better of the two but I don't know if this still holds true. Any info would be appreciated.

yes you are correct the Ipanema tower is the best in my opinion I didn't care for the masquerade tower 2 years ago. Food wise they have all American grill which very good for burgers and such, right next to it was a Asian place that was awesome with huge portions. there buffet is also very good but in may when I was there they were not serving lunch Just dinner. there were a couple other places towards the convention center Hash house Go Go ( I did not like this place) and Guy Fieri's El Burro Borracho but had strange hours never seemed to be open.
hope this helps have fun I enjoy gambling at the Rio and there is also gold coast across the parking lot (short walk)

I've stayed at the Rio once or twice a year since '02 or so. Impenema is the tower you probably want.(All non-smoking now also)
They have removed the coffee makers though. You may notice some other things have gone down in 10 years but it's still ok in my book for comped room inc.the resort fees you probably did not deal with 10 years ago.I forget how long it's been. The mini-bars seem to be gone as well but all the rooms still have a fridge and safe.

If you remember the sportsbook deli, that is still there and the all-American grill also. The website has all the restaurants listed with menus also I believe.
Across from the gift shop by the Impenema elevators is a Starbucks and if you find a long line it is faster to use the one heading to the convention center
The show in the sky has since closed so it's pretty quiet in Masquerade village all day.
If you are Platinum or Diamond there is a private check-in area close to main entrance, just bear to the right when you arrive.
Have a great trip! (And hello from a NJ native!)

Thanks for the quick replies! We've stopped by Rio a few times in the past few years we just haven't stayed there. Luckily I don't have to worry about resort fees since I'm Diamond but I'm glad to hear there are some decent places to eat there. We will use Lyft or Uber to get around and we like Gold Coast so we well definitely stop by there. We definitely liked staying there before, the rooms are large and we liked the pool area.

It's been about 4 years since we've stayed there, but the Impanema tower was better at the time. This was pre-Samba rooms, so YMMV. I will say that last time I was there, the AC went out in the hotel during dinner (we were in the seafood restaurant), though it was back on by bedtime (1-2 a.m.). The AC in our room smelled like somebody was chain-smoking in the air handler. In spite of that one trip, I would probably stay there again if we didn't spend all our time on the north strip.

can't beat the price-------have stayed at the rio on comps earned at cet properties in ac and used their diamond club------otherwise played and ate at the gold coast across the street which has better blackjack rules and a decent amount of full-pay vp games---at one time the rio buffet was considered one of the best in town,no longer.---.consider the gold coast buffet at least their equal or better for a more reasonable price-----

NO Really? Gold Coast is ok for the price and Rio buffet is way over priced but imho equal in quality no way.

I've always enjoyed the All American Grill and the buffet is still pretty good. Hash House is worth trying if you haven't. I like the Diamond Lounge there as it has a nice view and some nice comfy chairs. Food is just OK but service was pretty good.

my comments on the buffet were based on breakfast-----do not use buffets for lunch or dinner----would agree the rio has a nice diamond lounge, use the computer in the lounge to check-in and get my boarding pass for the return flite-----

Thanks for all the replies! We haven't been to the Rio buffet in about 5 years - it used to be pretty good so I'm sorry to hear it has slipped in quality. Looking forward to our stay, less than a month to go!
