    Hey all,

I am coordinating a trip for my mother and her two sisters to Vegas next spring and I need a little advice on where to book.

My mother was in LV maybe 30 years ago, and my two aunts have been once in the past 5 years. They are all low (or no) rollers (i.e. penny and nickel slots) and are just looking to get away for a weekend. They are in their early 60s to early 70s. Needless to say the choices I would normally make will not be good choices for them.

    Important:
    + On Strip
    + 3 day stay
+ Decent quality rooms or better
+ Don't want to break the bank, would prefer to save a few bucks for shows and whatnot
    + Prefer a decent pool
    + Fine with sharing rooms
+ They are smokers but do not mind having to stay in a non-smoking room
    + Mid-week or weekend

Timing will be mid-April to mid-May. We won't go earlier than April 9 and while I prefer to avoid that week (NAB) the rates don't look too bad right now.

My plan is to book a room or rooms for them, then "chaperone" the trip in my own separate room. I will probably book two rooms for the three of them, but I have been eyeballing some of the 2BR suites at MB, Delano, or Mirage.

Questions: Which property do you recommend for three older ladies that fit the criteria? What other properties should I consider? Would Paris or Flamingo be worth considering? (I personally think Flamingo is a dump but would be willing to listen if you think it's a good option.)

Do the 2BR Tower and Penthouse suites at the Mirage have 1K + 2Q arrangements, or are they all 2K?

For what it's worth I typically get comped rooms or very good rates at the Mlife properties. I typically get 2 to 3 nights comped at Aria or B with a bit of F&B credit. I will definitely get 3 nights at the other Mlife properties.

    Thanks for your help!

I think Mirage would be great for them. Easy enough to walk to other properties, on the strip with lots of food choices. Pool shouldn't be too crazy.
Would be within a reasonable budget and they can see how the strip has evolved over the years.

I agree on the Mirage. You want them to be mid-strip. Maybe check out the TI. I am meeting some friends there october 26th so i'll be able to get a sense of the place as i haven't been in there in about 5 years.

I may get jazzed for this but the remodeled rooms at Harrahs are decent, it's mid-strip, lots of penny machines,
and since they are smokers, won't mind the low ceilings that kind of hold the smoke in a bit.

Just stayed at the Mirage in a Hospitality Suite. 1 King 2 Queens. 1700 square feet and a fridge. 2 and a half baths. Was great for us.

One other thing that would be nice to know for recommendations is how mobile they are, any issues walking for example?

Tell them the strip now has a 90 degree turn and ends at the plaza. Low rolling and low rates. Let us know how it turns out.

    I agree with the Mirage.
    • It's at most two hotels away from cheap dining options and is close to low roller gaming.
    • The pool is decent, especially with the waterfall in the middle.
    • The room is OK for the price range.
    • They may be interested in seeing the Terry Fator show at the Mirage.
    • It's relatively smoky in there, so they won't feel out of place as smokers.

Mobility is mostly fine. My mother is probably the least likely to walk very far. My youngest aunt is a "walker" and will truck all over.

I voted Paris for the pool and location to many food options and shopping.

    Mirage was my second choice.

I would do Harrah's in the new Valley Tower rooms. It has an older clientle, many food choices nearby next door at the LinQ, The location is perfect as far as walking.
    My other choice is Mirage.
Paris would be my first choice then Mirage, but if you prefer to be on the North side of Flamingo Blvd i would do either Harrah"s (the new Valley Tower rooms), or the Mirage.

I recommend Mirage, great pool, casino easy to maneuver, and a short hop across the street to Harrahs for some variety of gambling.

I haven't stayed at Paris yet, but I've researched and read a lot here on VMB, and it's definitely on my list to try - I really like the Paris casino and good food options there, plus easy walk to other mid strip casinos.

Best of luck - your Mom and Aunts will have a blast together, no matter where you land. Good on you, @spicole for giving them what will be a memorable trip, I'm sure! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

From your list I would pick Mirage or Paris. But Ballys should probably be on your list too. The rooms are large enough to share, it has a nice pool that won't be a party pool and its a great location. When my grandmother was in that age bracket, she was very comfortable there and found it easy to get around in the casino. Being connected to Paris, it turned into a pretty complete resort experience.

I picked Paris but made the assumption that you would be going around to many casinos. Paris is the most central of the ones you suggested. 1 day head North, 1 day head South, 1 day left over.

Mirage is my second pick and my suggestion if you plan to go no more than a few casinos away from where you are staying. The pool area is just so much better.

No/Low Rollers doesn't really end up mattering if they just place slots/VP. Wynn has the same slot as the downtown casinos and you are still play the minimum bets.

I am an Mlifer, but I'd probably pick Paris for their criteria, or MB, based on what my mom, 70, would like.

Paris has a lovely gaming area, I think they'd love their sky-scaped high ceiling and the pretty Parisian village feel.

Second would be MB. A pretty, old-world gaming area, and nice rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, AND separate shower and tubs. PLUS they can scoot around MB and Luxor and Excalibur without stepping foot outside, and with people movers. And one of the best pools on the Strip to me...

My top pick would be Paris, just for the lovely casino and unique, quaint yet elegant feel with the village theme. Plus a great location!

Have a great trip Spicole, and they'll love whatever you pick.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback and suggestions so far! Much appreciated.

I am slightly surprised on the number of recommendations Paris is getting for this situation. On the other side, it is interesting that MGM isn't getting any recommendations.

I'd at least seriously consider Paris.
    • Central location
    • Fine for low rollers
    • Not a confusing layout
    • Connected to Bally's for more dining options and machines
    • Pool is OK
    • Not expensive even if you have to pay full boat
    • Smoking
      • This is a thing. They may tell you they're OK with non-smoking rooms, only you can judge how truthful that is. MGM props are 100% non-smoking with a couple of exceptions (high end rooms and I think a couple of hotels may still have a smoking floor although they don't talk about it much). They raised the fine from $300 to $500 (probably because of weed legalization) and it's only a matter of time before they start whacking people with it. So if you're sure they won't smoke in the room or have tight enough opsec (lol) to not leave a trace, then MGM properties are fine and I wouldn't really have a recommendation for one property over another although I'd think the one with the least complicated layout would be best. Paris, you can book a smoking room(s) and then nobody has to worry about it.

I voted Mirage, but Paris would be just as good.

    Chuck,
Thanks for the response. I quizzed my mother tonight on whether she would prefer a smoking room or not. She claims that a non-smoking room will be just fine. She no longer smokes in the house, and I truly believe the three of them will not smoke in a non-smoking room. Now, do I think she would prefer a smoking room? Probably.

Based on my preferences, some preliminary rate checks, and feedback here, I have likely narrowed it down to Mirage (leading), Paris, MB, and MGM (very distant 4th). If I can get a killer rate for rooms at Aria or Bellagio then I may consider them but I don't expect it to be competitive with rates at the other places. The same goes for Venetian or Palazzo; as it was pointed out earlier, penny slots are penny slots, and V/P has great restaurant and shopping choices.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

MGM is really large and that's something that turns even younger folks off. If they know and like it there, that's a different thing but it's probably not the best choice here.
