Does anyone know how the Plaza comps compare to Boyd and other downtown casinos? I booked a Plaza room for next week online. I havent played at Plaza for years and that was just passing through while eating there. I usually stay at Cal or Fremont but Cal just recently told me they wouldn't honor my comp room reservation because they are short rooms due to construction delays. So I now have a reservation at the Plaza but will need to play there and try to get a comp. Does anyone has an idea of what level of play is needed at Plaza for comp rooms vs Cal/Fremont?
In my experience, it should take about 4 hours of play at an average of $15-$25 per bet (blackjack/UTH/3-Card)...that's just a guess, of course... send a PM to 'Curt' - the VMB resident Plaza host.
In my experience it will take several $100 buy-ins at the Plaza tables, plus several $20 bills in the 10/7 DB game (no points) to get zilch in offers. Pressure Boyd to accommodate you at the Plaza or DTG, and I hope you win this one. If you want to be DT then Sam's, in lieu of the Cal, is your best bet with the free direct shuttles. Maybe ask them for free trips back and forth from the Orleans or Gold Coast. One other option is a really nice suite at Suncoast and take the WAX back and forth to DT.
Stayed at Plaza and MSS last week...bought in with $40 for blackjack at MSS and after a bit of play asked for a buffet...no questions asked and received a comp. Went over to the plaza and played the same night, bought in for $100, asked for a comp. I said MSS comped me a buffet, can you comp me anything with my play? Food, room, drinks, anything? The pit boss laughed at me. Picked up my chips, and will not go back. Next two days, I gave MSS all of my business and received several more buffet comps. Just gotta ask, never know. But the way Plaza laughed at me, I was offended. Doesn't hurt to ask, however.
Not sure, why would Boyd try to accommodate you at the Plaza or DTG since they don't belong to the same company. If anything Boyd can accommodate you at MSS or Fremont downtown but not likely DTG or Plaza. To the OP, what's wrong with MSS? They are renovating the east tower at the Cal so have very limited rooms but I'm sure you can ask a host about MSS or even Fremont. As for Plaza and comps, I would contact Curt at the Plaza to see about comps and level of play needed. There seems to be conflicting recommendations here, one says that Plaza is easier but another person said that it was easier at MSS so best to contact Curt to get the facts down and not rely on "opinions". But if I had to give an opinion I would say that the Boyd properties are easier to get comps over the Plaza. More casinos to play at and more tables and machines. I didn't enjoy gambling at the Plaza when I stayed there and didn't get any comps at all for my play.
OP has been bumped from the Cal, https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/index.php?threads/cal-walking-guests.143298/
My last trip this May I gave Plaza good play (for me) hoping to generate some sort of offer. I received 25% of regular room rates. Not sure how to take that, but at least it was something. Still receiving 2 comp nights per month at Boyd properties. Having said that I did notice and like the casino floor changes at Plaza. As long as Boyd and 4Q do not charge resort fees they will be my choice of home base. I won't pay resort fees downtown until there is no choice.
And if you read my explanation on that thread you will also know that comped guests are a different story than a paying guest. Hotels with paying guests can use that money to move the guest to another competitor hotel. With a comp the hotel will have to eat the cost of the room and pay the competitor. Like I said, why would a company move a comped guest to a competitor hotel and let the guest garner comps there, all on the other hotel's dime?
They probably wouldn't but it never hurts to ask. OP wants to stay DT. OP is the "damaged party" in this so Boyd needs to fix it and DTG and Plaza are options, even if remote.
