I've never been bothered to play at the airport but the machines seem popular. What I was told was that those machines after different payouts than the strip so are not worth trying.

Having said that my question is - has anyone actually won decent money on them?

I will play them for two reasons: On a rare occasion I want to hit a machine immediately after getting off the plane just for the hell of it. Always just one machine and usually don't run more than a $20 through it. The other reason is I'm at the airport early on my way home from Vegas and I just....have....to.....play...just....a...little.....bit...more.

First trip to Vegas. Wife and I waiting at the gate going home. Sat down at a 1.00 WOF and hit a spin for 500.00. She just gave me one of those "..seriously!?" looks as I put the money in my wallet. Sine then, I've played on the way home most every trip and only cashed out once for more than 100.00 and it was a .25 machine.

Funny how conditioned we are about our player's cards and how we have a split second "panic" feeling as we get up from a machine at the airport and reach to remove the card only to realize what we've just done.

I am up lifetime for Airport play.

Had a 1 hour layover on my way from PHX to Seattle, played some VP (horrible paytable), hit a 4OAK and cashed out...never played in the airport since.

One of my friends hit a handpay on the way home from my birthday party trip....that was almost 6 years ago. I've won a few hundred here and there.

My wife hit for $700 in 2010...She hit on the way in...and couldn't win a coin toss the rest of the trip. Now she never plays when we get there. I always run a 20 through when we land, I hit for $80 once, most of the times, I would have been better tipping our limo driver with it.

Have never seen machines entering Vegas only in departures. Usually just want to get out of the airport when I arrive and when returning home I only pop into the airport casino for a quick ciggy as have had enough slots by then.

They are machines between the baggage claim carosels. First time I had baggage to claim so I noticed. For the gambler who can't wait 10 minutes for their bag, they can lose all their shit before even leaving the airport ;)

They had advertised that a few mega jackpots, WOF, were hit there.

I am sure they take/hold is terrible there. Captive audience. My only fear is I would get a handpay and it would take too long to get and miss my flight. Then spend the handpay on a new ticket.

I was there yesterday, and one of the WOF machines near the A gates had a sign on it that said it had been hit for a little over $1M at some point.

One time my wife found a super hot WOF machine and made some decent coin on it. The rate at which she was hitting the SPIN bonuses has not been seen since. A little crowd even gathered around her because the machine was so hot. Not a huge amount of $$$, but it was a lot of fun.

Way back in the days before TITOs, I hit on a 3-reel coin-dropper, just as my gate announced boarding... thankfully, this was in the days when I used to bring a carry-on, and I was able to dump the 200+ quarters into my bag.

Other than that, the most I've won was $60 on a VP machine ($20 in, $80 out)

I did hit a $125 or so 4OAK once. It was a hand pay.

I'm always concerned that there might be a delay in a handpay or (formerly) a coin jam or something that would cause me to miss my boarding.

Over 20 years ago was sitting with my wife in the airport and say a guy hit the top jackpot on his machine(I think it was $500), he kept playing and I remarked to her about what an idiot he was for continuing to play, maybe 5 min later he hit it again, I shut up then.
