Sick and sad. We really do deserve an earth ending meteor on some days.

I wish I could say I'm shocked but sadly with all the tragic news we are subjected to in this world on a daily basis I'm not.

Sad. But you see this all the time now. People killed for shoes, cell phones, or $15 in cash register or a six pack of beer.

There have recently been “several brazen robberies at the sightseeing spot involving tourists and photographers,” SFGate writes, including the July 1st robbery of three people’s cameras and lenses at gunpoint at the same location. “The crimes often go unsolved.”

Lets not increase security or anything at the place.

Why did they have to shoot and kill the man? He's 71 years old for heavens sake. So sad and sick.

Can they find these scumbags by tracking pawnshops when they attempt to sell the equipment? I doubt these fuckers are photographers.

My guess is that they were druggies and desperate, too strung out to know that a murder is actually gonna get cops out there looking for them, when a straight robbery would get a report number and maybe a line item on a list sent to camera dealers and pawn shops.

A career criminal knows that very few will put up a fight over money or property and all a perp needs to do is say "Gimme your money/camera, mother{f-bomb}er/b*tch!" in a menacing manner.

There are a few fairly large stolen equipment registries and dealers usually check these when buying used gear. However, I'm sure this case will be notorious enough so no dealer will touch the stuff. My guess is that the perps quickly sold the gear on the street and got their fix.

No professional or serious amateur will touch a stolen camera! Modern digital camera are actually quite easily traceable. I know that both of my most recent cameras (Canon and Fuji) are easily traceable to me. By default, serial numbers of the body and often the lens are included in all images. Clients and agencies usually want all EXIF information on submitted photos intact and those can be used to identify the camera/lens. I know there was at least one attempt to do a "search engine" that tried to identify photos on the web that were done with stolen cameras.

The "have-nots" shaking down the "haves" is bad, getting worse and far more brazen.

I'm really glad they got the perps! Senseless! :(

Kinda hits close to home, as I'm approaching retirement age and often times go on photo walks solo. I consider myself very streetwise and always aware of surroundings, but I would think that places like that would be fairly safe. :(
