So, I noticed the monorail supposedly goes to the SLS, which I never been to. Worth checking out? Will be at MGM Grand. Considering starting at SLS and working my way back to MGM Grand.

Although, it is August, and temps could be 120s. So I may have to amend plans, but very curious if SLS is worth checking out.

Oh wow. That's quite harsh! I've never been to Hard Rock either. Would like to check that out if I have the time. Worth it?

I'll be staying at the SLS in a couple of weeks and I stayed there last April. The hotel is very nice, actually.

The casino is OK, but nothing there you won't see other places.

Has slot machines and alcohol so inevitably I would venture in.

I like trying casinos I have never been in so I visited for a few hours.

I go to the SLS every couple of months for a few reasons. First, the restaurants are great. I love Cleo's. If you are into Steak Houses it has one of the best in the country. As far as the rooms, I always get a suite, so I am not sure how regular rooms are, but they are all nice and relatively new. I am not a fan of the pool because they let in too many locals and non-hotel guests. The gambling is okay. There is a nice variety of machines and a fairly large slot floor for a mid-size casino. Valet is very good.

I would suggest taking the Strip bus to SLS instead if you decide to go there.
Hard Rock is definately worth checking out, plenty of memorabilia to look at and a nice restaurant. And, depending on your situation, within walking distance.
I'll be in Vegas also next month.......yes, it will probably be 150 degrees in the shade, but don't forget, it's a dry heat....:evillaugh:

Here's a shot of my room (ROTH) last April. It's small but very nice. It's all of the room I really need while doing a conference over at LVCC.

    The Monorail is easy-in, easy-out.

The little bar opposite the registration desk is nice. They don't give you any problem sitting there with the netbook catching up on things and nursing one drink. :)

If you have some time to kill it's worth a ride up there to check it out and make your own opinion. They will probably give you some free play if you sign up for a players card.

Umami's is good place for a beer & burger. You only live once, go for it.

Only reason I'm considering it. If I get free play for signing up, then sign me up.

I like SLS. Low table game limits, rooms seemed nice. Good place to lay low.

The Monorail ride up there is quite quick and goes by some nice scenery; if you haven't been to SLS it's worth a look. It's smallish and boutique-ish, don't expect Cosmo or Aria and you won't be disappointed.

The "working your way back" part, unless you're Uber'ing or taxi'ing, is another story. That's well over 3 miles in 100+ heat. Even if you're stopping in for drinks along the way it's a haul. I know because I've done it. There's a vast wasteland between SLS and Wynncore with no relief, and then you're still a LONG way from MGM even once you get there.

I'm going to be doing something similar in a couple weeks, hitting Palace Station, Artisan, and Lucky Dragon then working my way back center strip but will be doing so from the comfort of the back seat of an Uber. :blah:

There's always a monorail ride. I know the trams are a long ass walk to the actual casino floor (speaking of which, does anybody know WHY it's like that? Or even why they don't have moving walkways?). But I'm making it a super cheap trip and I have MyVegas. My plan is to spend on Uber for the airport to MGM Grand, and Uber to Freemont either the first night or last day. Or skip Freemont entirely (only in Vegas for about 55 hours).

The Monorail at SLS and Westgate is actually much closer to the hotel/casino than at the other stations.

The Bally's and MGM stations were originally part of a smaller private monorail, and it's fairly obvious that the intent was to route passengers through shopping areas.

One thing I've never figured out is why they don't have an entrance directly into Paris. It would save quite a bit of walking and dump people right into the arcade area.

At hard rock if you sign up for a card, you get $5 mp or slot. Play for an hour and you get a $25 food. I played a $15 table at SLS a month ago, now I get a free weeknight the next 3 months.

SLS has good bloody marys, I stay at MGM and start the day usually riding the monrail down there, have a couple of bloodies, then jump on the monorail back to Tag at the Linq, have a few beers and end back up at MGM feeling good. The casino is big enough you won't get bored, but it isn't huge. I don't find the walk from the station to be all that long at SLS.

SLS is only on my to do list because of jpw711 posting about their Bloody Mary's.
