2017 DAL trip . . Return to NOLA or AC or a new destination . . Tunica?

Looking at places to go for my 2017 DAL2 trip. Since I like variety, and go to LV about 10 times a year there are only really 3 places that suit me.

Atlantic City
New Orleans/Gulf Coast
Tunica

Airfares are the cheapest to NOLA, Tunica has Memphis, and Atlantic City has a lot of variety.

The trip would be in December. Weather has little/no bearing on the trip.

Opinions appreciated

 

Harrahs AC is nicer than anything in Tunica. Really, Tunica is in the middle of nowhere, and they stopped putting money in it years ago when things started to go downhill. I really don't see a reason to go here if you're from where you are.

I push for Harrahs AC over Caesars the Boardwalk because you are targeting December. Harrahs is a better property than Caesars in AC, in spite of their Vegas reps. You probably won't want to be on the Boardwalk anyway in December, plus you're close enough to the Golden Nugget and Borgata at Harrahs to go see them via a cheap cab ride or something like that. The Marina District is the best part of AC right now to me.

Harrahs AC, especially if you get in the more updated hotel towers, is a 4 star level casino/hotel.

NOLA is probably the best place to go to unless you're looking to pair AC with something like Philly but I've never been to the casino so I can't comment on that.

Going to AC, you may be best served flying to Philly and either renting a car or taking the train.

 

I haven't been to any of those options but based on what I've read I would try AC. Good luck!

 

havent been to tunica, most people say its nothing special but the gambling is good...

I only know two people who say they love AC, and mainly its because, besides hammond Indiana, its the only places with 7* lounges other than that no one talks about anything else there, lol

If you want to do anything other than gamble, it's NOLA every time. Harrahs AC is a good casino and hotel, but as someone who grew up in NJ and has spent a good amount of time in AC, I can confirm that it is not a destination town, especially in winter.

 

As a Seven Stars member, I know that your focus is gambling, so out of those choices AC is the best. I haven't been to Tunica (yet), but it's obvious from the extensive reviews and walkthrough videos I've watched on YouTube that the Horseshoe there is a pretty small-scale operation with few restaurant options, an absolutely tiny pool, and a very small hotel with mostly less than luxurious rooms.

My father-in-law regularly stays at really nice places in Vegas like the Aria, Bellagio, Caesars, the Wynn, etc. He has visited Harrah's in NOLA and he said it was terrible. He said being there just made him feel sad. There are a lot of desperate locals who hang out there and the rooms are substandard.

I visit AC quite a bit and I can report that the CET properties there are actually full-scale resorts with great restaurants, Seven Stars and Diamond lounges (which offer full meals), shows, spas, etc. The rooms and suites available are mid-tier Vegas in quality. Also, the odds tend to be better than a lot of other places, because casino taxes are extremely low in New Jersey. Like a previous poster, I recommend Harrah's AC in the winter because they have a terrific year-round indoor pool oasis which turns into a nightclub on Friday and Saturday nights if you are into popping bottles in the club scene.

 

Here's another vote for AC and Harrah's at that. You can certainly do Caesar's but it's nothing to write home about. And, with the free shuttle between CET casinos, there's really no reason to not go with the better (overall) property. Couple of things to note:

• Harrah's AC has plenty of non-gambling activities to keep you entertained, including the year-round pool, the Red Door Spa, and the (incredible) Viking Cooking School
• All the AC properties have incredible restaurants -- you can't go wrong with any!
• Ceasar's has a direct connection into "The Playground", which offers an assortment of AMAZING restaurants -- the food alone is a draw
• The shopping at the Playground is surprisingly good if you're into shopping
• Harrah's AC has a fun vibe even into the wee hours of the morning (after 3am) with a DJ spinning at the VP bar in the center of the casino floor
• IMO, Bally's has the nicest High Limit area (note: I'm referring specifically to the HL area behind the check-in station)

I'm not going to lie, AC is pretty awesome and gives me 80% of the thrill of Vegas. The main reason why Vegas beats it is because Vegas has a crowd every night, whereas AC is strictly a weekend party

 

This is basically what I planned on saying. I've done AC once during the winter and will never do it again.

Also, someone mentioned food options...IMO no city can compete with New Orleans in that respect. Even if you choose Biloxi, there's great restaurants all over the place (Half Shell, Mary Mahoney's, plus some decent poboy dives.)

If you do go with Biloxi, I wouldn't recommend staying or dining at Harrah's Gulf Coast, but Kim, the long-time bartender at the Diamond Lounge is great. I prefer staying at the Beau and playing at the IP. The Harrah's in New Orleans is excellent from hotel to casino, but you lack nearby gambling options (Boomtown's about 20 minutes away).

 

I was more referring to food options if you elected to stay within the casino proper. Lets be honest, you don't go to New Orleans to stay at a casino. And, if you do, you're usually going to be stuck there for most the time.

 

DaiLun it's funny we are just booking our asp 2 trip for February, going to head to Biloxi, a nice place to get away from another Michigan February!!! That is our choice, have done NOLA 3xs and Biloxi once and we want to see the remodel. We do like NOLA for non smoking and lots of VP but want to hang out at the gulf. Next summer plan on taking an Atlantic City charter. For you I think AC would fill your bill as long as weather is no problem, lots of great restaurants it seems and excellent Diamond Lounge. Great choices all around............Rick
