Monte Carlo Monico Paid Upgrade Offered - Yes or No?

So I got an email today from the Monte Carlo offering a paid upgrade from my basic room to a Monico Suite for $35.00/night (see screenshot). This booking was already a free room for 3 nights from Pinnacle Ent. w/ freeplay/dining credit (just pay the resort fee).

My question is, I was already going to try the $20 trick to see what I could get, but wouldn't be terribly disappointed if I was turned down. I have never stayed at the Monte Carlo, haven't been to vegas in 4 years and never play MLife properties - would you pay for the Monico Suite upgrade at $35/night on a free room, or try to the $20 trick and see what you get as a 1-time shot?

I guess I would have to know just a bit more about this suite. Okay, I did a bit of googling... looks like an oversize room.

I totally hate when the call something a suite, but there is no DOOR between BR and living area.

 

It depends how much you care about what your room is like. I haven't stayed in a regular room, but booked a paid Monaco suite last year (thanks work, for supplementing my travel habit). It's not a true suite (with a separate bedroom), but had an expanded sitting area w/ couch and chairs and an extra half bath. It was decent, but I personally wouldn't pay $35/night extra for it.

 

I personally wouldn't pay for that upgrade. Like people have said, not a true suite.

 

Personally, I would take the upgrade. I like the extra space, and the Monaco suites are close to the elavators, but not noisy.

 

I tried the $20 trick there back in April (moderately busy weekend) and got a mediocre view upgrade. While your mileage may vary, getting a $20 trick upgrade to a suite of any kind is highly unlikely for a 3-night comp offer. Besides, Monte Carlo doesn't have that many suite offerings for you to work with. They've got the Monaco (which you were offered), the Spa Suite (same size w/ spa), or the Diamond Suite (125 SF bigger w/ spa). I highly doubt an upgrade to Hotel 32 is in the cards for you, so excluding that from discussion. If getting a suite is important to you, the offer you were presented is a pretty inexpensive sure thing, while holding out for a better upgrade is unlikely and only a marginal improvement if successful.

 

I have stayed in a Monaco Suite, and here is my dime (up from 2 cents). It is a larger room, extra half bath, fridge, and a couch. If you are staying on a comp, then your room is ~$40 (resort fee), for the 'suite' its $75 a night. I liked the extra space, loved the extra half bath, and appreciated the mini fridge.

 

35 dollars a night really wouldn't be worth it for me. Id try the 20 dollar trick. If it doesnt work you have more gambling money! Just my .02 cents.

 

Side note (sorry to hijack) have any of you stayed at Monte Carlo lately with all the construction? Just wondering if it's worth it for my October trip.

 

We've stayed in the Monaco Suite, and Like nostress said, it's just a big room (which I actually usually like, I am one of the weirdos that prefers a petite suite to a one bedroom!)...BUT you have the same, tiny half-sized window for a room that is huge.

It IS a bigger room, and feels nicer/roomier, but for us, we actually prefer their standard size room, as the window size is more room-size appropriate, and thus makes the room brighter. Plus, the Monaco suite bathroom still has a shower-tub combo...the water closet is the only upgrade there. I can handle a one-room suite, I cannot handle a shower-tub combo with a shower curtain in a suite! (Though you DO have an extra powder room off the front door.) So no, I would not pay the upgrade, but that's me.

In all fairness though, on that trip, we had just had a corner suite at Aria and a Terrace suite at Cosmo...so we might have liked the room more if it wasn't on the heels of two stellar rooms!

 

Don't do it, not worth it. Crappy room all the way around. I'm platinum and they "upgraded" me, at first I thought it was something special but yeh, not so much. Had an adjoining room and the noise from there at 2am alone was enough to make me crawl out of me skin.
Stick with what they give you.
Ask for a fridge for meds and it's free. You're golden.

 

We always accept the Monaco offer. room is right off the elevator so it is easy to run back and grab another!!!

Check in was a nightmare at the MC on Thursday night. Line was 25 minutes deep at 10:30pm. After finally getting up there, I tried the $20 trick and got nothing, the girl was nice, but she couldn't even figure out my comped room. She was trying to charge me $500, when the room was supposed to be free (other than resort fees, which ended up being comped anyways). Eventually after waiting 10 minutes, she got the room comped, and got me out of there, but upon getting to the room, I found out I was put in in a handicap accessible room right next to the construction site and holy cow - it is noisy.

For anyone considering staying at the MC right now, I absolutely would not. They started construction at 5am both mornings (including Saturday), and the building literally rattled all day long. There is no way you were sleeping through it. Half of the casino is shut down and relocated, there is no more high limit room for table games, they consolidated to 1 pit on the floor, the pool being closed doesn't bother me, but it does some. They have lost a lot of gaming space with new walls being put up.

The place is nice and will look great when it is done, but there are too many options to fight that mess if you don't need to.
