My trip report took a little detour and I started thinking for 10 secs.

I had a great time in the 80's, but I thought about songs that were reviled at the time and loved now. Or Vice versa.

I remember Come On Eileen was detested and mocked, but now I love it. So what's your best / worst?

    Rightfully mocked but now beloved:

Not mocked enough at the time, now see where it's gotten us:

I have a soft spot for this one:

Hated "Take on Me" by Aha...Now, it reminds me of the awesomeness of being a kid in 5th (or 6th?) grade in Catholic school, and I love it..lol

I'm the same way about all the Tears For Fear hits. Hated them when they were out now I like them.

I was a big "Electric Avenue" guy in the 80s. Unfortunately, "Like a Virgin" hit a little too close to home in those days; I wish the Dead Kennedys' "Too Drunk to Fuck" had been more relatable.

    For me . . .

Best song of the 80's: Total Eclipse of the Heart
Worst song of the 80s: too many to count

Love anything by ZZ Top, still do. Best videos too!

Hate Tears for Fears. Shout, Shout. Hated it then. Still hate it.

You think you hate Tears For Fears, but I've been face to face with Billy Gibbons and believe me, his breath is horrible.. One candle, and it's all over.

I''ll even sub in Crowded House for Tears For Fears. Admit it - you thought this was Tears for Fears.

Love the 80s music...first, my high school year...first girlfriend, first car, first slow dance lol I still remember all those days... can't really say which ones are the best...I love them all!! Lots of alternative music: new wave as we used to call it.. but then again Pink Floyd's "learning to fly" what a classic ..

Funny the different opinions..Liked Tears for Fears in the 80's even though I was more into heavier stuff..Saw them in 89 or so at the Meadowlands in NJ.Really nice concert..Still like them..
But the worst song I can think of is 'My Sherona'..Thankfully I have not heard it for years..
All the MJ songs sound better now and going back to the 70's even Elton John's hits..

Worst for me is Safety Dance. Wang Chung is down there too but listening to it most closely now I think they realize how silly it was when they made it. Best? It's a Prince song but which depends on which album resonates with me on a given day. Today, it would be Annie Christian. Since tomorrow is my Friday, it will probably be something more upbeat.

    One of the best:

    One of the worst:

My post may or may not be totally honest.

In all seriousness being a 70's baby and an 80's child I literally grew up with 80's music. Some music that was totally derided at the time is now considered classic and groundbreaking.

    Another best:

Big Country got pressed into a little 45 that you could tear out of a magazine. Great record.

    Songs I should hate, but I don't.

    Walk The Dinosaur
    Lips and Hips
    Groove Is In The Heart
(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)
    The Go-Gos entire fucking catalogue
    Walk This Way (Run DMC)
    It's Tricky
    Humpty Dance

A million more, I am sure!

I never understood Walk the Dinosaur. I don't know anything about Lips and Hips. The rest of that list is pure Gold!

I love eighties music and could talk about it all day. My favorite somewhat forgotten eighties music is New Order. Simply fantastic band. Most people today know the beats form their songs, but not much else

Blue Monday is not (never) forgotten.

World in motion should probably be forgotten (I'm Irish so I have to say that) - it's 1990 so out of scope for discussing here ;)

FACT: I skip around the room and sing Safety Dance to annoy my husband. It's very effective. Bonus points if you add the weird hand movements from the video.

I paid actual, hard-earned money to see a number of hair bands in the 80s, so maybe I shouldn't be allowed to have opinions about 80s music. ;)

I know it came out in the 70's, but Disco Duck was so bad it stunk up all of the 80's as well!
