How much longer would you expect Circus Circus to be open?

As a Circus Circus fan, I love this thread.

BTW Ken, change your settings, I'm only at 2 pages.

This one made me smile, Kevke. I met two couples from Holland at a CC bar, we had many beers, great conversation, and exchanged business cards. You Dutch are right up there in my book, next to Canadians as my favorites.

They traded BC for land around Stardust that Harrahs owned prior to the recession. It wasn't them extortion an arm and a leg from Harrahs. It was them giving up a profit making asset to get a bigger footprint for Stardust's replacement. It's an even worse deal than you remember. An absolute windfall for Caesar's Entertainment in every sense of the word.

First, it's been proven you can bring a hotel up to standard without a demo, unless you believe standard is five star. It's not. MGM probably only needs to invest 200m in the place to start turning some heads.

Second, there are an empty lot in a more desirable location and and half completed hotel looking for developers. I would argue those situations are more below Vegas standard than a profitable casino with a solid fan base.

Nono ! Absolutely not ! dont get me wrong ! Only thing im trying to say is that the current Circus Circus as how it is right now does not come up to MY las vegas experience / standards , its just an opinion thats it.

i can imagine that there are lots of people who love vegas and the vintage stuff , im just 27 so im to young for that ;)

Luxor was built by Circus Circus with Bill Bennet CEO. Not sure if Luxor was paid for up front with cash. CC also built Excaliber, which I believe was paid off in less than nine months.

If you are into this kind of thing, a good read is "Forgotten Man: How Circus Circus's Bill Bennet Brought Middle America to Las Vegas"

Yeah if the north end is revitalised then yeah I can see them building a new resort, but I doubt MGM will be the first to pull the trigger.

Can see it still being around until there are a couple of finished resorts up that end.

To add to this, circus circus still makes a profit and right now even a fancy new resort would take decades to pay off with that location.

However, if Resorts World and Fontainebleau both open up (a big if for both), I can see a tear down and rebuild of that property turning north strip into the new premium area with brand new mega resorts.

But if Fontainebleau and RW remain the way they are I fully expect CC to remain as it is. No reason to build a fancy resort in the middle of nowhere.

I think it all depends on the new convention center area that is taking over the Riviera property. IMHO, we will have to see that close to completion before we see that area of the strip pick up. Once that place opens I think it may also open up more opportunities for other properties. CC may also decide to upgrade when they see that area start to pick up. And maybe by that time RW may be close to completion, lol.

The economy is would have to be completely different for this to make sense. If pre recession MGM only wanted to spruce up CC and develop around it, why would they implode it now when it would be harder to finance the replacement?

I hope never. To me places like CC are the quintessential Vegas. The north strip is sooooo much better now that the Riviera, Stardust, the Frontier , westward Ho, the Silver dollar are all gone. Another mega resort is just what we need

I haven't heard about this new convention center, is it supposedly replacing the LV convention center or a hotels conventions center like Sands?

They will be eventually extending the current LV Convention Center over to the Strip. Right now, the old Riviera is parking for them.

Instead of massive investments in the rooms and building, Circus Circus could turn it around with a small investment in the vibe. Get one of those top club DJ's (Like that Tiesto dude) to take over the whole casino....advertise a free admission party with (bottle service anywhere in the Casino)....combine it with a clown convention and give all the clowns free unlimited drinks. Then turn it into a movie and do it every week. The Exclusive Circus Circus Clown Club.

They could also get Insane Clown Posse to headline there.

Pick a casino, any casino. It's someone's favorite. I watched a short documentary on the Western Hotel. Patrons were interviewed and they loved the place. Loved the staff and the way they were treated.

I have a soft spot for places like CC and don't like dumps that try to market themselves as hip or trendy. "Eff it. This is who we are and what we are. You're welcome to come in and have a good time with us."
