The clear citrusy drink from the 90s is back for a limited time. A 4th of July thing

A few weeks ago I let my liquor store guy know I wanted some. They only sent him one case and he kept it behind the counter. I stopped in last week and he put a 6 pack on the counter for me.

    They did get more later.

I went in the store tonight and he asked me how I liked it. Too sweet! I really liked it back in the day. I guess my taste has changed. I still have one in the fridge.

He said people are buying it but he hasn't had any repeat customers. He went on to say one lady "used to drink the hell out of it when we sold it before, now she says it's too sweet just like you do".

    You folks had any lately?

I saw a display of Zima six packs in the grocery store a few weeks ago and did a double take. I should have bought one for nostalgia, but didn't. I drank a lot of these in high school and college --- I don't remember it being particularly sweet but probably would find it sweet now. I fondly remember dropping jolly ranchers into Zimas to flavor them. The good old days.

My look when Zima first came out was very similar to this:

I had one for the first time a few weeks ago, ever had one when it was popular because I was way too young... hah. Drinks like Mike's Hard Lemonade will make my stomach burn if I have more than one, but this wasn't too bad.

Bringing back old brands was a popular strategy after the recession. There was a WSJ article about it. If a trademark isn't used for three or more consecutive years, it's considered abandoned intellectual property, and anyone can register it to use it.

I saw New York Seltzer in the store the other day. I think Clearly Canadian was supposed to come back too.

pdf version (not pay-walled like the prior link):

I bought two cases of the stuff. I like sweet drinks so I actually enjoy it. Had a Zima party with a few friends and drank about a case and a half. Need to go out and see what I can find...

I prefer Smirnoff Ice, to me it's like an alcoholic sprite.

Wow, been years since I tried a Zima.

As for Boones Farm, wow, that was our preferred drink in the 70's when we were under 21. I remember we had a friend who could get us drinks. We usually had Boones Farm, Spanada and (I think it was called this) Annie green springs. We were probably 15 to 17 on Maui with nothing to do (everything closes up by 9 pm) and hung out at the bowling alley most of the time. Later we all changed to mostly hard stuff. My friend wanted the Peach Schnapps, others crown. I went with the vodka and later on Captain Morgan Rum.
