    My Trip Report

First off, before I say anything about our trip, my 89 year old Aunt literally ran me ragged. I am lucky to be alive.

Now, I arrived at Harrah's Sun. June 11th at about 1:30 p.m. and decided to see if I could check in a bit early. Very few people in line, and yes, I was able to check in early without any additional fee's.

I did ask for a complimentary upgrade, the front desk clerk did go in back to see if she could give it to me, and alas, she could not. She told me she felt bad about it, since my Aunt was celebrating her birthday. I told her no worries, it was all good anyway.

Our room was in the Carnaval Tower, and it was just fine. No, it wasn't the Wynn, but it was very clean, beds were very comfortable, and pillows were nice and soft, but not too soft. And they didn't go flat. Our bathroom was nice sized, great water pressure both in the shower and the sink, and it even had the elongated toilet which was nice. And I had the maintenance man override the air conditioning for all 5 days we were there. Our room was very cool all the time.

My aunt arrived about midnight, I got her settled in, and she took one look out the window, saw the High Roller, and said "Oh, I see the carnival has come to town." I burst out laughing and said "yeah, the carnival has come to town." I explained what the high roller was. LOL

We went downstairs and gambled a bit and finally I talked my aunt into heading back to the room at about 2:00a.m.

Mon. morning we headed out about 10:00 a.m. and walked to Ballys, had coffee in their food court and nosed around a bit. Then we went to Paris and did the same thing. Just nosed around. We walked back to Harrah's, and I was thinking we would take a little break, then head downtown. My dogs were beginning to bark, and I had good walking shoes on. LOL

Well, my Aunt had other idea's. She wanted to do some gambling, so I said, "let's get bus passes and head downtown." Downtown, here we come. Arrived at the California, then walked to Fremont, to join the party. LOL

We decided to go to the El Cortez for their drink of the month, a Patron margarita. More walking, but the drink was good and for $5.00 a deal.

By this time, it was getting to be dinner time, so we treked back to Main Street Station for their dinner buffet. The buffet was outstanding and since I had a 2/1 coupon that was mailed to me, even better.

More gambling at Main Street Station, then on to the Golden Gate, then to Fremont, and finally back to the Golden Nugget. I was wearing out.

I held my own, on the gambling, playing the slots. In fact, I broke even for the evening. I finally talked my aunt into going back to the strip. I figured, once we got to Harrah's she would be ready to call it a day. What was I thinking? I mean it was 1:00 a.m. by now and I literally was looking like something the cat dragged in.

Once back at Harrah's, my aunt sat her scrawny butt down at the first slot machine, and started playing. I sat and watched. Finally, I told her, we were going up to the room, I was dead, just didn't know it. LOL

Tuesday morning we slept in a bit. Like to 8:00 a.m. Headed out about 10:00 a.m., only this day we just stayed around Harrah's, Mirage, Casino Royal and yes we hoofed it back to Bally's, the Paris, the Linq Promenade. And then, my aunt says she wants to walk the strip. Really? Okay, so we head out and I say, we will just walk a little towards Casino Royale. I mean my legs and feet were taking a beating. Well, we ended up at the Wynn. Not exactly a short stroll, in my opinion.

Then my aunt says, "I want to go back downtown". Our bus passes are still good. Back downtown we go. I was just glad to get to sit down on the bus.

A little more gambling, a couple of margarita's later, and back to the strip we go.

We ate dinner at Denny's and I have to say, it was very good. We both had the Chicken fried steak and the food was hot, and our service was spot on. Our waiter was very nice even though he was super busy.

Wednesday rolled around and we took the shuttle out to Sam's Town. Sam's Town was a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle from the strip. It wasn't busy, very nice casino and really nice employee's everywhere.

We ate at the buffet for lunch and it was very good in my opinion. And we got the buffet 2/1 because of our play. 50 points gave us the 2/1 and it didn't take much play at all to get 50 points. And since they had breakfast items on their lunch buffet, it was a big hit with my Aunt.

We just stayed at Harrah's Wednesday evening. We did go to Casino Royale for a bit and I did win 258.00 on the Sex and the City slot machine, betting a 1.00. And I got that win on like my third spin. I cashed out.

Finally got to bed at 11:00p.m. and finally got a good nights sleep.

Thursday, we went to the Flamingo and walked around the Wild Life habitat and walked through their gift shops, and casino. The Flamingo looked really old, in my opinion, as far as the casino went. Very few people in the casino. However, I do know they are undergoing a big room remodel, so maybe the rest of the property will get a face lift as well.

Thursday, I took my aunt to the Mirage dinner buffet. It was very good and impressive, in my opinion.
We walked around the Mirage, had a margarita at their main bar, played some slots, and I actually won a little, like $25.00.

We went back to Harrah's, and I decided we would have a drink at Toby Keiths Bar and Grill. It was on my bucket list. Okay, we are sitting at Toby Keith's, I order a martini, and have to tell the bartender how to make one. Really? For the 15.00 it cost me, I would think the bartenders should know how to make a martini. Anyway, my aunt had a Baileys and coffee, and both drinks were good, so no complaints per say.

I'm sitting at the table, chatting with my aunt and then she drops the bombshell. I want to go barhopping before I take the dirt nap. I reply, "you are kidding?" She says she is not kidding. Okay, we start off at the Piano Bar to listen to the Dueling Piano's. I figure after an hour of that, she will be fine and will forget about the bar hopping. I'm definitely a margarita short of a party, because that did not happen. After about 45 minutes at he Piano bar, Aunt Carolynn says, is there anywhere to go dancing? WHAT!!! Dancing. I mean I have sketchers on, not come and get me shoes.

And back in the day, I won several dance contest, but that was many moons ago. LOL We head on over to Gilley's at the TI. I figure that will satisfy her and she will forget about dancing when she see's the country line dancing etc. Gilley's had no cover charge, which was nice and their live band was really good. We order drinks, and all is good. No sign of my aunt wanting to dance. Well, I spoke too soon. The band played a song she liked, she grabbed my arm, and out on the dance floor, these old birds were stomping snakes. And not just one dance either. After the second dance, I walked off the floor. My aunt trailing behind me, saying that is just what she needed.

2:00a.m. and we are back at Harrah's. It was a fun night and we were leaving the next morning for home.

We did play a few slots before calling it a night.

Checkout went without a hitch on Friday morning. And only a couple people in line as well. Went very fast.

My aunt made it back home, gave me a call a couple days later, and said she wants to go back to Vegas. I told her I would call my niece and I would meet them there. I figure, let my niece run with that wiry woman. LOL

Afterthoughts: We did see the Big Elvis Show, and it was as good as ever.

And not including the resort fee for the hotel, (room was comped for the 5 days) I only spent $30.00 for the entire five days we were there. My gambling was good, and I did a lot better gambling on the strip than downtown. Usually I do better downtown, not this time though.

A big thank you for all who helped with directions getting us to the Harrah's parking garage. It went without a hitch.:woohoo:

Sorry for the long trip report, and I sincerely hope no one got bored. LOL

My aunt is a go getter to be sure.

And it was really hard keeping up with her. LOL I usually do Vegas very low key. This trip was not the case.

My husband and I are going back to Vegas at Christmas, so a very calm trip report will be written.LOL

I love these stories. Nice report, thanks for sharing. Doing some of the Lord's work right there, taking your 89 year old Aunt to Vegas. Well Done!!!

I take my Mother every year for her birthday and often at least one of my aunts. They are all over 70 and are in better shape than me. So I can sympathize with you on that.

Great report. I assume she didn't notice the FSE zipline? Because I figured that was her next request downtown!

We hear so much about the hoity toity restaurants in Vegas on message boards, it made me smile to read about your very positive experience at Denny's - the simple pleasures in life.

And it doesn't surprise me how well your aunt handled Vegas; when you've beaten the crap out of the Great Depression, the fascists, and the commies, Vegas doesn't pose much of a challenge. :nworthy:

    Vegaskid74,

Not only did Aunt Carolynn beat the crap out of the depression, the fascist, and the commies, she beat the crap out of me in Vegas. I hate to admit it, but it is the truth. LOL

I forgot to add, we also had breakfast at McDonalds one morning, and it was the best McDonald's breakfast I have ever had. That McDonald's on the strip is very organized and well managed.

Yea, those hoity toity restaurants and buffets are great if you can afford them, but since we were there for 5 days, and I was on a budget, the high end places to eat were out of the question, at least for me. And we did not suffer at all, eating at Denny's, McDonalds, and even had Nathan's hot dog for lunch one day, using my 2/1 coupon.

I highly recommend Sam's Town Buffet and Main Street Station buffet as well.
