    My Trip Report

We'll have to pick up my kids in Memphis and decided to arrive a day early and spend the night in Tunica. I was able to get Roadhouse comped and so here I am.

Won't bore you with the uneventful drive of nearly 10 hours but can say I'm relaxing in the jucuzzi in my room as I type this.

Gambling was okay to start. Played some $10 paigow at Horseshoe , played for about an hour and left negative $5 and the pit boss offered to take care of my meal as a professional courtesy as I work in the business. Walked to Gold Strike and could not find a paigow game, was told they do not have it. Could not get a seat on the $5 blackjack and so I went up threw $30 into video poker on the no smoking level and when I was almost threw hit this 4oak and kickly cashed out. Now up. Look over and what do I see, a dead $5 blackjack table. Bought in for $40 and cashed out $75 which at one point I was over $100.
Walked back to Horseshoe and redeemed my free buffet and realized the pit boss may not have liked me. Some of the worst food IV had. I ate it last year and vowed never again but who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Back to my room to relax in the jucuzzi and decided to gamble some more. Went to being up $100 to down $100 or a total of $200 lost rather quickly. Not gambling anymore decided my stop loss would be $100 since I have to feed three boys still on the way home.

We call Tunica "not Vegas". Like we are going to not Vegas..... it's about a 4 hour drive so we used to go for a few days a couple times a year. We haven't been for quite awhile though. Just was tossing the idea around with hubby about maybe going this week but then decided just not worth it, bad food and no great gambling

Oh Richard if you change your mind those photos exist. Maybe even a video or two LoL

Yeah Tunica surely is not Vegas. $5 3:2 still exist and video poker rules were not bad but the food and such.

Okay so I should be checking out shortly. Sleep was near non-existent due to the 50 plus crowed on my floor having a party. Called the desk and they said it's sold out so no new room. That and the hair in the shower, sticky bathroom, stains in the carpet and a non functioning deadbolt left a bad taste in my mouth for what could have been a really nice stay. Talked to the front desk and was chastised for not bringing up the issues right after check in at which point I reminded them I was told this was the only room and the rest were sold out. They took the resort fee off and not so much as an apology.

We go to Tunica fairly often. My wife likes staying at the Gold Strike. I think it is the nicest of the three. The buffet is better , the Atrium when its open is good and Chicago Steakhouse is very good also. The Roadhouse has nice a nice room design but they are definitely in need of a remodel.

Agree with all of this, other than the sentiment about the Atrium café. Its really the only decent buffet in Tunica and the Steakhouse is very good

I would rate the casino and hotel like this. 1 - Gold Strike 2 - Horseshoe 4 Roadhouse.

Horseshoe has two sections of rooms. The older, though renovated are the floors right above the casino. More typical hotel with A/C units in window. The rooms in the main tower are much bigger (not suites) and have a separate sitting area and TV in bathroom. They do have suites on top floor, but very few of them. Very difficult to get.

Chicago steakhouse is the better food option. We usually enjoy the Gold Strike buffet - nothing super great, but okay.

@jpw711 has ate Hollywood's buffet lately and has said good things. He's said is better than gold strike lately. But when we had it ~4 years ago, it one of the worst buffets we ever had, so haven't had the guts to pay for it.

Roadhouse used to have great employees at the front desk. Now it's hit or miss. Sucks you got the former Harrah's Tunica treatment from them (those hotel employees always sucked ime), but at least they took the money grab "resort" fee off. That place is FAR from a resort.

Yeah, I haven't eaten there in many years. All my Tunica trips in recent years have been limited to the Goldstrike pod

I hope to give Gold Strike a try next go around in August. They wont comp me there but I can get it from Myvegas possibly.

Its an okay place to visit to gamble but it surely is not a tourist attraction and unless your going to Memphis for some nightlife there is nothing there to do other than gamble, that I am aware of.

I stayed in a remodeled room at Horseshoe my last trip. It served its purpose and I would have stayed there again if I could get a comp. As soon as I booked Roadhouse, I started getting offers for Horseshoe and when I tried to book them, it would tell me the offer was not valid, I did not want to cancel my Roadhouse reservation of a comp unless I could get the Horseshoe.

Agreed. They even told me to use the wifi there I had to pay for it. Good thing I have unlimited data and a good connection.

Look guys, we're not comparing Tunica to Vegas or even Atlantic City. It's within a 20-30 minute drive to Memphis. Plenty to do in Memphis but nothing to do in Tunica other than gambling, golf, drinking and eating. As a local, there are more offers, promos etc available. But, the MLife and CET affiliations are a good reason to go. With a total of 8 casino properties, even though they're not side by side, Tunica isn't a bad destination for most gamblers.

Don't get my wrong, I don't mind the trip there, I go with a purpose and that is to pick my kids up and drop them off to my ex-wife in Memphis which is our half way point. The casinos work, have better rules on some games than I see in Vegas but the dining and customer service is surely lacking there. I have only had one good meal there and that was at Hollywood a couple years ago. Penn bought Ballys and Resorts down there, will be interesting to see what happens at those properties, especially Ballys.

Resorts actually has some nice rooms and the property has a lot of potential. Hope they make it competitive. Bally's...nice retirement home atmosphere!

We had a reservation at Ballys once. Then found out the hotel was a drive away from the casino. Nope. Not gonna happen. I want to drag my drunken self over to the elevator and go to my room.

Glad to see a picture of The Roadhouse. That is where I hit my very first Royal but it was still called the Sheraton back then.
