Uber fare estimator from airport to Bally's takes the tunnel?

The last time I was in Vegas I went from the airport to the Cosmo. I used Lyft and the driver long hauled us taking the tunnel. I just checked the Uber fare estimator for a ride from the airport to Bally's and that also shows the driver taking the tunnel. That can't be right, can it? I would never go from the airport to Bally's via the highway.
After my last experience I am a little wary of using a ride share service again so this time I thought I would use Uber instead of Lyft. But I won't be any more pleased with the ride if the driver takes the tunnel to bring me to Bally's.

I wonder what route his map showed?
I had a Lyft driver who commented that if he varied from the recommended route that he could get in trouble.
Don't know if that's true or not.

With Uber's up front pricing the price you are quoted when you request the ride is the price of the longest route to the destination. This is something new that Uber has recently implemented and it's screwing the drivers that take the shorter route.

The rider pays the same price as if they went the tunnel route or not. If the driver takes the shorter route then the driver only gets paid for the mileage and time for taking the shorter route.

What happens to the extra fare the passenger pays? Uber keeps 100% of that money. This is something we drivers have been protesting Uber about since Uber implemented up front pricing.

So when in Vegas if an Uber driver takes the tunnel (long-hauled route) the passenger isn't getting charged anything extra, you agreed to pay for that route when you accepted it.

Now with Lyft it's a different story. Lyft gives you a price range as a fare estimate, the shorter route will be at the lower end of the price range and the longer route will be at the upper end of the price range.

 

Not entirely true, drivers are allowed to deviate from the Lyft generated GPS route. I have to do it quite often for various reasons and have never gotten any warning from Lyft about it.

The only possible way a driver could get in trouble is if the driver long-hauls a lot and gets several complaints about long-hauling. Other than that deviation from the suggested route is acceptable.

 

Not true at all. Lyft recommends its drivers follow the GPS provided route because that makes it more difficult for passengers to complain. But when I drove in the past for Lyft, I deviated from the GPS route all the time if I knew a faster course

 

I drive (not vegas) and always take route rider wants. When in Vegas I tell them route to take. Example= airport downtown called for interstate. I had driver go down Paridise to stop for beer, soda, and water

 

Almost every uber driver will ask me if I mind if they take a quicker/shorter route if it's in both of our interests. And I could really care less if I'm uber long hauled for an extra $1.50 when I'm saving $10 dodging a cab. I don't sweat the small stuff and have my day ruined by something as silly as that.

 

I'm glad someone else brought this up. Long hauling by a taxi adds about $10-$15 to the fare. Long hauling by an Uber might cost a couple of bucks. If a passenger feels cheated by a long haul with Uber, for a couple of bucks, just adjust the tip accordingly.

 

Being tunneled by a lyft or uber driver adds more than a couple bucks. I know because it has happened to me and it adds around seven bucks to the fare, or around double what you would have paid otherwise

 

You got paid, Uber got a little extra from the pax, if anyone got screwed it's the pax, not the driver. As you said, you got paid for the mileage and time.

 

This. My Lyft driver took the tunnel last week to get to the Flamingo (she was really cute and sweet so i let it go... sigh) and it was still considerably less than I ever paid for a cab.

 

Whilst in Vegas, you can avoid the worry of whether or not you're being long-hauled by an Uber driver if you are able to procure the Uber Ride Pass.

With Uber Ride Pass, you pay a $10 subscription fee up front. Then, for the next 28 days, your UberX rides are a flat fare of $5.99 and your UberPool rides are a flat fare of $3.99.

The $5.99 flat fare is good for rides where the normal fare would have been between $5.99 an $25. If your normal fare is under $5.99, you pay the normal fare. If your normal fare would have been over $25, you pay the flat fare plus the difference over $25. For example, a trip from downtown to M Resort will normally be about $28, so you pay $8.99 (the flat fare plus the difference over $25). For UberPool, the $3.99 fare is good for any ride normally priced at $20 or less.

I used Uber Ride Pass during my May Vegas trip, and the $10 subscription fee paid for itself on my ride from the airport to my hotel. I then used it during the trip with my buddies to go to Hop Nuts, Frankie's Tiki Room, Ellis Island, etc. Every trip only cost me $5.99 (plus $0.19 tax). I even used UberPool to go back to the airport from El Cortez at the $3.99 rate and the driver didn't have any other passengers to pick up along the way.

I bought the ride pass for my upcoming trip later this month and look forward to using it to try out some previously unvisited casinos and a couple of off-strip favorites.

Got long hauled myself by a Lyft driver from the Airport to the Bellagio yesterday. Tunnel and freeway, kept my mouth shut as it was too late by the time I had looked up from my phone
Sent a complaint through and they’ve adjusted the fare to what it should have been
Don’t these guys learn? With tech these days people are wiseing up to these A holes

 

re: The Uber Pass. So, if the fares are lower, does the drive take a hit?

 

Last night I set up uber to go to Paris. It first said $7.25 then when I went ahead on the app it said something like rates will be shown later. I assumed it would be the same price. We got in the car and during the ride he took the tunnel and highway. I asked him why he’s going this route and he said it was faster. At that point I was able to check the price and showed $14.87... the final fare was over $15 but I was like whatever cause it was close to the $14.87.

Has anyone’s rates changed from when you first get a price and get in the car? Can the rates change? I mean it’s still cheaper than a cab but we don’t want to get ripped off either.

Your thoughts please.

Was this from the airport? If so $14.87 seems about right $7.25 seems a little low. Checking on my app it says $7.44 for uberPool and $14.23 for uberX.
