Palace Station - Tell me about it please

Just received an unsolicited call and offer. Very good offer actually. I'm single, and play craps and baccarat (not mini) exclusively.

Do they have midi bac?

A higher limit area?

Food? Better quality food?

Rooms? A view of anything?

Crowd? Any single people? Age?

Whatever you can add.

I searched on here and didn't find much. Should I go? Should I forget it?

Once in awhile I come up with a winner. Too bad I wasted this one on a message board instead of the lottery.

seriously though, I have nothing against it. I have been there a time or two, never stayed there. the cheap buffet was not bad for a cheap buffet.
I think they have quite a bit of remodel construction going on currently.
it is close to Lucky Dragon and SLS, so if you were bored with the place, it would only be a short Uber ride.

 

It's a locals joint. Good craps game. Decent food. Stay away from the garden rooms. Big time remodel going on. Bad ventilation so the smoke cloud is very low. More people collecting social security and riding scooters than I care to remember. A great view of Interstate 15 though.

Food? Better quality food?People wait in line for hours for the Oyster bar.

Rooms? A view of anything? Not sure I've never stayed there. Some rooms must have distant view of strip.

Crowd? Any single people? Age? As said above skew older and local. If your looking to meet young people forget it.

Always $5 BJ but 6/5, higher limits have good rules

I enjoy Palace Station...
They're going through a major remodel right now..
Good value food (both at the Steakhouse and coffee shop)
Good odds on craps (10x odds)
Good selection of slot machines.
Liberal video poker machines
Comps seems to be decent...I put in a little play there a while back, and have been consistently receiving 3 nights + $50 freeplay...put in a good amount of coin-in on a solid trip there...still same offer...so it's good to know just a sprinkle of play will get weekend nights there.

In my opinion, it is too local that a tourist may feel out of place.

 

They are doing a lot of renovations to improve the place; I'd give it a shot as part of a longer trip if I had an offer.

Piggybacking on what some other people have said here..

Palace Station is a 2.5/5 star casino - not great but definitely not bottom of the barrel. If you're a low-roller, the limits will definitely appeal to you.

Last time I was there (July 2016) - there was always a $3 craps table going on with what I believe to be 10x odds. Lots of locals (demographic skews older people) playing as opposed to tourists. Has the 6-point fire side bet if you are interested in that. Also something to note, they don't have 25/50 cent chips so they don't technically give the true payout on bets that are below the usual $5 min (example: $3 place bet on 6 only pays $3.00 instead of $3.50)

Casino feels a little old but not dirty. Since it is an older property, the ventilation leaves a little bit to be desired. Not a problem since cigarette smoke doesn't bother me much but just note that the casino may have areas where the cigarette smell lingers. Can find really solid VP pay tables there though.

Haven't stayed there but from what I've read online - people recommend the tower rooms as opposed to the courtyard rooms.

 

Stopped there for the first time in May. I enjoyed the place. It was a late Friday afternoon. Two craps tables open, one $5 and one $3. The $3 was packed, no one on the $5 table. I don't mind playing by myself, other players usually show up once someone is playing, so I played at the $5 table. Over the next two hours a handful of other players came to my table but very few. Meanwhile the $3 was packed the whole time. It's definitely a low rollers place. Friendly dealers and pit crew . Had Pizza at Little Tony's, it was good. I don't know if I would stay there but I will definitely play there again. I never felt out of place at all.

 

It is a locals place, but the rooms, especially the mini suites are nice for the price. As previously stated, avoid the garden rooms - not sure they are still there with the remodeling going on.

Not sure what you meant about feeling out of place in a locals joint?! We frequent all the locals joints and sure don't feel out of place. No fancy nightclubs here, but we aren't looking for them anyway

 

Rooms are actually pretty nice (I've stayed in about 15 different hotels).The cafe is decent.I like the walk up dining bar for quicker service.They do keep up with the cleanliness of the casino which is also good to see.At this point with all the remodeling going on it wouldn't be much of a sight to see.Talked with a cage attendant and she told me it was going to be a major facelift.Said it was going to be on par with Red Rock.Didn't mean to give her my stunned look.I would pick it over Orleans,Rio and Palms.

 

I stayed a couple of times recently. Tower rooms are nice, comparable to MC or nyny. Good VP. Easy comps. Love the oyster bar, charcoal room AND pizza place ( tony's). Chinese resto is supposedly good. Buffet only for breakfast. Clientele is a lot of locals, good vibe generally.

 

Only place I ever walked out of because of the amount of smoke.

 

Palace Station is one of my favorite near-strip casinos and I was there for a couple hours in April. However, I don't visit often anymore because I've quit renting cars in LV and Stations has a 6 month rollover on tier credits. It has a real old school, 80s throwback feel -even more so than Gold Coast. Part of that is because it is low ceilinged and kinda tight, which contributes alot to the smokiness. Think Harrah's on steroids. The staff is great and decent cheap food, just like at most Stations properties. The place is indeed kept clean. Because I like to be able to walk to other properties, I have never stayed, but have read many places the tower rooms are ok and you can get strip or mountain views.

Although there are some tourists, many of whom are on package tours, it is a truly locals spot: senior points multiplier days, cash your paycheck deals, bingo... Just try to negotiate the casino floor on one of their signature give away days! Even so, I love it and have never felt out of place as a tourist. There is a mix of backgounds and ages but skews middle-aged to older and definitely no Cosmo/Drais/Omnia club kids. Chances are most singles (and non-singles) are stopping in on their way home from work, not flying in from the Bay Area for a night of reckless abandon.
