South Point or Sam's Town?

We're booked at South Point for the last three nights of our seven night trip in September. We're there Sunday through Tuesday. On Sunday, we want to bet and to watch the NFL games in the Sportsbook and on Monday and Tuesday hit a couple of other off-strip casinos with a rental car.

Would I be better off at Sam's Town?

I like the sports book at South Point much more than Sam's. Lots of TVs and good drink specials in both the book and the Del Mar Lounge at South Point.

From South Point it's a short drive to M Resort for your trek on Monday or Tuesday. Silverton would be fairly close too.

 

I love everything at SouthPoint. The sports book is the perfect size with great drink service.

They also have the new VISN (sports betting information) TV station there, and if you are there at the right time you can watch Brent Musburger doing his thing in the booth

 

South Point hands down. GVR, M Resort and Silverton are a short drive away.

 

Here is a picture I took at South Point. As you can see, the lounge has several TVs overhead and the book is straight ahead. There's a bar just behind from where I snapped this picture.

I stayed at the South Point in March and was very impressed with the property. Great pool and several choices to eat. Also its only like 6 or 7 bucks to uber or Lyft to the M Resort (which is amazing). I have never been to Sam's Town so I cannot offer advice there.

 

I just stayed at South Point for the first time this past weekend and I was very impressed. Their sports book is open 24/7, more restaurant options than Sam's Town, and video poker selection is amazing (eg, full pay JOB/BP on their 50-play machines). The only downside is that the buffet is subpar, but the 10 other restaurants make up for that. I will probably stay there again on my next trip.

 

In my opinion the buffet is comparable to Samstown or other Boyd buffets maybe a little better. Otherwise I agree with this post.

I would best describe the Southpoint buffet as "functional".

 

I also enjoy the spa at South Point. Also, the place just feels cleaner to me than Sam's Town.

Re the South Point buffet: I never had dinner there and only had lunch a few times (average).

But I LOVE their breakfast buffet. My favorite is the scrambled eggs with lox mixed in. Then I add spinach from another station and mix it together, and then add some sausage (a bit spicy, but not too much) from the carving station. For my taste, the perfect breakfast.

I have to agree with the other posters. SP has a great sports book, a wide variety of restaurants and video poker with generous pay-tables. No need to go to Silverton (a total waste of time) or The M (haven't been there in a few years, but their VP is worse than SP. But they used to have a pretty good Italian restaurant).

 

Agree on SP...in that area you have GVR and the M...at Sam's your close by alternatives are Eastside Cannery and the Longhorn...no brainer there. A couple other notes, you will be hard pressed to find an electrical outlet in the SP sportsbook so keep that in mind. Try out the Zenshin happy hour starting at 2pm everyday...very good and a great value. The M sportsbook has the advantage of easily finding a seat although you will not get any waitress drink service let alone anything free...bar is right next door. If you want a change, go to GVR, but that place will be very busy on Sat and Sunday...might be a good side trip for Sun or Mon night football.

 

I wouldn't touch Samstown anymore, South Point hands down-don't think twice.

I'll be at Southpoint again in about 3 weeks. If there's anything specific you want to know, just ask. I haven't paid for a room there in forever, and they've given me really nice suites all the way up to the 2500sqft master suite. Lots to do, great video poker, movies, bowling, good food (I'm still not a fan of the buffet though). Away from all the idiot tourists on the strip
