    Hey all

TL;DR: what would be your must do's on a solo trip to Vegas?

So I will be in Vegas from 7/17 to 7/21 solo. My days will be spent working as I couldn't afford to take them time off. I am staying in El Cortez Cabana Suites for the duration. I can't be bothered moving around so I am sticking to one place. I got the rooms for a very reasonable rate and reviews on here and elsewhere online are favorable for the costs.

Anyway, my original plan was to drive down from San Francisco on Sunday night (stopping for a few hours rest in a motel in Bakersfield). Check into the hotel early (I'll pay a fee if I have to) and start work on Monday morning. At the end of the week, the plan was to leave very early doors on Friday morning and shotgun all the way home to SF as I need to be back home by late afternoon. There were a few reasons I wanted to drive - the ability to bring stuff home, the freedom to explore, I like driving but this morning I found flights on Southwest that work out cheaper than gas + motel and my wife would prefer I not drive 9 hours on my own after a week in LV. So I booked those.

Up to 4pm (ish) Monday through Thursday will be work hours before and after is all mine ;)

I realize I am now rambling so to get to the point -

I have never stayed downtown before so I want to explore the casinos down there on my first evening. On Monday night I am planning to go to the group pull at the Pallazo (https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/index.php?threads/group-hl-slot-pull-mon-july-17-venetian-palazzo.141844/). The rest of the week I have no plans. I would like to go to see a few places:

Jerry's Nugget (I want to visit an authentic off strip, locals casino)
Herbs and Rye - http://www.herbsandrye.com/ - I love local cocktail places

Right now they are the two places I am most interested in seeing. I am planning an evening casino hopping DT, I might head to the strip to check out some places I've not been.

In terms of gambling, I have an OK bankroll - I like Blackjack, Craps. I will waste some time on slots if something looks interesting and I am going to check out VP action as well.

I am fine in my own company, don't have any issues eating alone etc so I am not worried about this trip being solo. I traveled for work a lot in the past so it's nothing new. If anyone is around and wants to meet for a drink give me a shout. I am a fucking awesome guy to spend some time with ;) - I'm proper Irish (as in I was born and lived in Dublin, Ireland) so I can drink a lot and I swear constantly - keeping up the stereotypes.

After all, that - what would be your must do's on a solo trip to Vegas?

Might want to stop in the nearby Frankie's Tiki room after Herbs and Rye. Atomic Liquors too, just to say you've been there.

Just don't forget to do a TR about your trip.
Also make sure pleasure > business!

Other than that, I have a feeling you'll have an awesome trip!
    Enjoy, Funstuie! :D

Since you're at the El-Co anyway, and you like "cocktail places", perhaps you'll want to do a 'crawl' through the bars along Fremont-East.
Oh, and be sure to take advantage of the El-Co's free (to guests) limo back to the airport on your departure day.

Very interested in your review of Herbs and Rye - I've never heard of it.

Mon Ami Gabi has become a must-do for me now in Vegas. When you start to get all Vegas'ed out, its a nice place to kick back and watch the world pass by. I am usually up early and they open at 7AM so it works out great. No problems as a solo diner there. Food is pretty good too.

    Fuckin' drinkin' and fuckin' swearin'.

I haven't stayed downtown so I don't really have advice, but flying instead of driving was a clutch move

I forgot to add Oak and Ivy in Container Park, right across the street from the El Co. Nice place to get an Old Fashioned before you go out on the lash.

Sounds like you've got things well covered. Historically, I fly down from Reno for a couple days worth of business and build in some time for fun as well. I learned a long time ago not to mix too "much fun" into the mix when there's more business to tend to the following day. I'm not much for bein' in a vehicle over 4-5 hours myself, especially for the return trip. It's a 55 minute SWA flight to Vegas from Reno and about the same, maybe a tad less, from Oakland, SF or San Jose. I'm glad you're flying!

You'll enjoy walking the downtown area... the joints are close together and easy in, easy out. Agree with checking out the bars along east Fremont (right by the El Cortez). Hope you do find the time to get out to the Strip to check out Wynn, Venetian, Caesars or the like. Have a BLAST!

    Things I do downtown

1)Play craps at Main Street Station--20x odds
2)Hang out at Cal sportsbook---comfy seating with drink specials
    3) Drink beer at Boars Head Bar--also at Main Street station---cool place to drink a few even though I'm not into video poker
    4) Catch a few happy hours at GN restaurants, they have great specials especially Red Sushi.
    5) Sigma Derby at The D
    6) Blackjack and Craps at ELCO---your only steps away from the coldest ice chilled beer in vegas
    7) grab a lobster roll from the truck just past heart attack grill
    8) grab a few brews from Chicago Brewing at 4 queens

The ideas here are great, but the real beauty of a solo trip is...YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT WHENEVER YOU WANT TO DO IT!!!! Don't over plan it, and pick a couple of things that your SO or regular group don't like to do. BTW the Bellagio sports book and Le Cabaret in Paris comp Guinness draft and Delmonico steak in Venetian and RiRa in the shops between Mandalay Bay and Luxor have excellent whiskey lists!

one of my must dos on a solo trip is to sit at the bar and play VP anywhere from 10 minutes to 10 hours... when you're solo you can plop down at one place for however long you want! I say VP at the bar because if I'm with others that is usually the meeting spot before we all go out and occasionally I don't want to leave my barstool!

I would have to make a stop at the TAG lounge at the Linq. It is a must do for me on every trip and if I wasn't on the trip with my wife I would end up staying all day.

I really enjoy sigma derby at the d and 25cent roulette at elco when I'm on a solo trip (ok and trips with other ppl). Both are fun and cheap and the people around you are enjoying the inexpensive fun too.

MSS for craps. I've had enjoyable gambling sessions there late at night.
