Mirage vs Cosmo

I know, I know there is no comparison as far as rooms go and I've stayed at both before. I'm just having a really hard time deciding what to do for my first solo stay. I will be in Vegas 2 nights at the tail end of a LA trip.

I currently have a comped Cosmo offer booked - terrace room no view with resort fees waived. I love the casino at Cosmo but am not really a fan of their pools.

I noticed there are 2 comp nights through MyVegas available for Mirage on my dates. So why would I consider the switch? I love the pool area at Mirage and this would allow me to use some MyVegas rewards that require a stay (like freeplay). However, the main thing that is nagging at me is that I made it to MLIFE Gold level at the end of my trip last Sept and it will expire this year. This will be the only time I'll have a trip with this card level and I hate to waste it. I'd like to use the invited check in line once in my life LOL. Also, I have heard that you may get free upgrades with a Gold card? Just interested to see what I might get.

Thoughts?

 

Don't you still have to pay the expensive resort fee if you get the deal through MyVegas? I think it is covered on your Cosmo comp. That would make me choose Cosmo, but I'm easily swayed.

 

Invited check in line? YOLO, go for it.

The potential upgrade at Mirage isn't enough to swing things. The usual complimentary upgrade (if available) is going to be a view room.

You're just as likely to get the same upgrade at Cosmo by smiling.

I don't do MyVegas. Are there other things you can use the points for, stay at Cosmo and use the MyVegas points for something else? That's how I would be looking at it.

 

Yes, generally you have to pay the resort fee with myVegas nights. They used to be initially covered by some hotels, but no longer afaik.

But unless the plan is to play enough to regain MLife gold, I'm not sure if there is a good point. Maybe if you want two real light gambling days and don't care about MLife future offers.

I do like Mirage's rooms, but I'm too poor for Cosmo. Lol

 

Two of my three last trips to Mirage as Gold member I was upgraded to a tower room just by asking (although I did give them $20 sandwich). The last trip I made over Memorial day weekend, the clerk tried his darndest to upgrade us, but there wasn't anything.

 

Didn't they change the freeplay rewards so that you couldn't use them on a myvegas stay?

Between that and paying the resort fee, I'd be staying at Cosmo.

 

I agree about the pool at Mirage, its one of my favorites. You can valet for free with Mlife gold though, but as far as upgrades, just a better room view now as they changed the wording for upgrades to not include suites a while back. If the pool is important book the Mirage and have fun, I always enjoy my stays there.

 

Yeah, but you save money by staying at Mirage and going across the street to eat your meals at Casino Royale!!!

Seriously, $88.00 (the price of 2 night resort fees at Mirage) plus. possible comps @ Mirage vs. known comps and a gambling obligation at Cosmo. It all depends on what is more important to you . . .

I'm taking a 2 day myVegas comp at Aria in July just so I have "no gambling obligation". In my case (especially since I'm going down for a GGWU event the following week) I'd much rather have the "no gambling obligation and pay $88.00" then a comp offer where play was an expectation.

We spent 4 nights at the Mirage two weeks ago - 15th floor, room 15048 - volcano view. Starting at 9am on the first morning, all kinds of hammering & work-type noises were going on all day until about 6pm. Complained to the desk and they said yes, the 16th floor was being renovated, but it would stop by 6 or so - did we want to move rooms? Since the clerk said it would stop by 6pm I said we'll stay put.

After breakfast the next morning we returned to the room to prepare for our "walkabout" of several hours. At 10AM the workers upstairs started JACKHAMMERING!!!! It went on & on & on..... even while I was talking to the front desk! I just held up the phone & shouted, "HEAR THAT?" Could barely hear the clerk say "a bellman will be right up with the keys to your new room." Talk about being pissed!

The jackhammering, which was booming out in the hallway & entire wing, was still going on without a pause at 10:40AM as we got out of that room. Apparently there was more than one jackhammer going. We do spend some time off & on in our Vegas rooms recuperating during the day (we are oldfarts), so obviously that kind of disturbance ain't gonna work with us.

The "new" room was nice & quiet with a pool view from the 7th floor, so the remainder of the stay was satisfactory. At checkout, I politely reminded the clerk of the 1st day complaint then the disastrous 2nd day, so she kindly waived the detested "resort" fee for all four nights.

I thought it was pretty cheesy of the front desk not to warn us about the "renovations" (reconstruction really) at check in.

 

Cosmo, nothing better than sitting on the cosmo balcony at 10pm - when it is still 90 degrees. SO relaxing.

 

1--Mirage resort fees are $40/nt with tax (not $44).
2--You cannot use MyVegas freeplay with a MyVegas comped room
3--If you prefer Mirage pool & that is a key part of your trip, go Mirage. Personally, Cosmo is my FAVORITE resort--cannot beat the balcony. But the pool area is not the same (great views tho)

 

If this was me, I would just double book. They're not that far from each other via Uber, and with an MLife stay you can gouge MyVegas for other rewards like the free Aria buffet or Nine Fine Irishmen. I try not to concern myself with resort fees too much if I like the property, because I can drop that amount gambling pretty fast. I'm staying at Cosmo on my next trip, but I got a free night at Paris for my first day there. I've never stayed at Paris, but I love the casino and I've always wanted to visit their pool, so, double booked for just one night. Hoping I can check in early, use the pool, flounce around the casino and maybe get some kind of comp entry for Chateau that night. It's some bother, but it's worth the effort to me, so I can try the pool. Each Vegas trip might be my last, so why not!

 

Cosmo is my vote by far! Casino atmosphere is so much better, rooms are so much better, drinks are waaaayyyy better, restaurants are much better, the sports book is much better, get my drift lol?

 

Have I missed something about my Vegas? Since when can you not use freeplay rewards with comped room rewards? There are just limits on how much by the number of nights you stay. Never heard that you can't use them both.

 

I used $50 myvegas free play on myvegas comp rooms at Mirage this past Feb.

 

HI Marilyn, I'm excited for your solo trip! I'd say go with whatever hotel you wake up most excited about in the morning.... (base it on a few mornings). We were in the same boat, always stay at Aria (which we adore) but the pool is just "meh" for us.

So, we decided to stay at MB instead this trip, specifically for the pool, and we are pretty darned excited as MB has a GREAT pool. (And I'm not even a pool person!)

Vegas is the ultimate indulgence...sometimes you're in a fancy dinner mood, sometimes you're in a comfy chill mood...there is no right or wrong...there is only "what option will you be most excited about this trip?"

If pool time is calling your name this trip, then go for pool time...even if you eat 2 nights of resort fees.

Like Dai Lun said, just shave the cost off elsewhere... (Though I can't advovate Casino Royale )

Or, since you fly from Canada, can you do BOTH since you're paying for airfare anyways?

If I had to pay no resort fee at Mirage, and pay resort fee at Cosmo, I would've thought for a minute and decide on Cosmo.

In your case, the case being just the opposite, it's a definite Cosmo! And I stayed at Mirage three times, August will be fourth time.

The free play (even if you're able to get it), will only be $25+$10 since this is a 2 night trip (you need three-night stay for $50 free play). $35 in freeplay, with 90% EV, will yield $31.50, which will not even cover one night of resort fee.

 

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I've decided to stay put at Cosmo. In the end, the thought of sitting on that balcony outweighs how much I like the pool at Mirage. Besides it looks like I could book a reserved chair online at Mirage for $55 even if I'm not staying there (cheaper than 2 nights resort fees). Also, I've been a MyVegas player for 4 years and I have taken advantage of the food offerings over and over. It is time to change it up and try some non-MLIFE food options even if they aren't free

 

MyVegas has changed that in the last few months--MyVegas freeplay cannot be used with comped rooms--neither MyVegas comped nor casino comped.

 

Not true for every resort. I just stayed 2 nights at Aria in June on a MyVegas Comp and was able to redeem $25 in MyVegas FreePlay.
