4 years in September, but if you're going the same weekend as last time (weekend after Labor Day), I hoping to have some late nights at TAG Lounge. ;)

Every trip I say i'm going to go down and see it and I never make it. I don't think I've stepped foot in the place in around 15 years. I'm saying I'll make it this trip but I know I probably won't. If they had 3/2 blackjack I'd probably really make the effort but last I heard it was all 6/5.

If you want to stare at video titties of Playboy Models, you can play 3:2/H17/DOA/late surr. for as cheap as $3. Probably DAS and RSA too, but I don't recall exactly as I didn't take a pic of the rules screen. It was in the West Casino about 20 feet from the bar as of late April.

Wait a few years. The old Riviera is being developed by the LVCC so after the property is part of the convention center CC will be close to all the action. At that time the area near CC will become more valuable. Until then the area will be a wasteland.

I have never stayed, or eaten at CC, but I really don't see what all of the negative fuss is about. I absolutely love walking around and looking at the carnival games, and can spend hours watching the circus acts too. If I had a family, I would certainly pick CC or excal to stay at. I don't play there, mainly because I only play off-strip in Vegas due to crappy paytables.

I missed out staying at the Riviera and Sahara so I might try to stay there before something happens to it

Nothing is happening to it anytime soon. As mentioned above its still making money for MGM. When it stops making money they will renovate and start making money again, but there are a lot of people that like the cheap rates.

I think Circus has enough inertia to keep trudging along until the north Strip gets somewhat repopulated.

I'm sure the real property is as debt free as you can get, and the capital items fully depreciated, so it's gotta be in the "Cash Cow" quadrant of that infamous BCG matrix. :) LOL, I seriously doubt if the parent company goes under if Circus should have a couple of bad quarters. :)

It's too damn expensive to build a new resort on the strip. It so damn expensive that as long as these old hotels still get traffic and can easily turn a profit because they don't have debt to pay will stay open. CC falls easily into MGM's "There's a sucker born every minute" style of management. They push it heavily through travel agents and overseas to people who can't or won't use the internet to find out what they are getting. And even though a lot of people don't like it, they pick up enough fans to have a decent return customer base. I've heard people beg for implosion for ages but no one has ever really given a compelling reason why MGM should risk that easy money for something that will have to be a high end hotel and could fail, especially when we seen some successful retoolings of similar properties that were also affordable. I predict that as the LVCC does it's expansion, MGM will commit some money into a top to bottom spruce up but will never tear the place down.

CC also has a huge niche for families on a tighter budget, especially those driving from California on the weekends.

I'm sure it's still popular with families with younger kids.

Anyone remember when the Strip properties tried to become family friendly? Anyone? Bueller? Circus Circus' original premise was a place where adults would feel like kids at the circus. It became a gambling hall with entertainment for kids. And thus captured the market of Dad wants to spend his vacation in Vegas and tells Mom and the kids that there will be fun for them too. Even Excalibur barely competes for this market anymore. Then factor in the low prices and the designated babysitter, the indoor theme park. Not a lot of growth potential, but they will own this niche as long as they want it.

I actually stayed at CC in 2005. Took my two teen boys for 4 nights. Then went to Hoover dam. then 2 nights at the South Rim. plus 3 nights at the Riverside Laughlin. and 1 last night at NYNY.
Anyway tried to check-in on Friday afternoon. Freaking 3hr wait. 20 + people in each of the 5/6 lines. After a while, way at the right end of the counter. I saw a sign "ClubOne Check-in". Not one person in line. lucky me I brought a card from a couple of years earlier. Almost everyone paying full price for everything. They hand out little to none in comps. That's why their system has always been separate.
Oh unless to count the Colored Fun book they always handed out the Slots of Fun , entrance

    1 Yes, Great Housekeeping
2 Yes The buffet is that bad , Whole family agreed awful, one plate and left.
3 If you booked a Manor room. That's YOUR fault.

When I was a kid visiting family in Phoenix in 1976. A WHOLE bunch of us, a couple of aunts, and uncles. My nana ya ya mom dad. All Drove up to see the Dam then to Vegas. Stayed at The Apartments in the back of The Westward Ho. Wasn't to bad back then. every other building had its own pool. But I remember going through roll after roll quarters at CC. I needed a whole suit case just for all the crap I won.
Ya ya sat down at one machine by slots of fun exit. Put on her white gloves And never played a other machine the whole time.
And yes, I remember mom buying me a Chili Dog with a fun book coupon at Slot a fun. YEP back in 1976
OH and the Ho had aluminum dollar tokens back then.

Was my very 1st trip to Vegas.

    GREAT MEMORIES

when out there with friends the " punishment" for making a bad or stupid sports bet is having to eat a jumbo dong from Slots a Fun ( allowed one topping) while watching a circus act at CC
