How much longer would you expect Circus Circus to be open?

I just can't help to think with how dated Circus Circus is that it could be in line for an implosion. We intentionally visited it this last trip and had the Circus buffet, YUCKKKK..

It is amazing to see the bigtop and lights from outside but can it last much longer?

 

Their valet service leaves much to be desired...

The mortgage is paid on the property and they're a profitable casino/hotel. Nothing will change until they:

A) can profitably rebuild/renovate the site (which isn't likely anytime soon considering all of the north strip failures). In order for that venture to be considered profitable, the amortized costs of construction over X years would have to be more profitable than leaving the property status quo

or

B). cannot rebuild/renovate and are not profitable and shut the place down and sell the land/business and someone else decides what to do with it


You have to keep in mind, their land is not highly desirable based on its location (as far as its current purpose) so this isn't the same as a person closing their small coffee shop grossing $100,000 a year in sales to make room for a dollar store that's going to gross $10,000,000 annually.

 

If I owned it, I would be looking forward to my kids owning it eventually.

Why would they stop taking in the revenue they are getting?

 

It is amazing that their buffet can be that bad year after year.

 

They own it plus 55 acres next door. Maybe 15-20 years down the road they might do something on that end of the Strip, but not anytime soon.

 

The casino was quite full the last couple of times we visited Circus Circus.

Not everyones cup of tea but obviously some people still like to visit.

 

Circus Circus is perhaps THE standard-bearer for that all-important concept: YMWV.

All manner of most everything is praised and ripped here, and rightly so. We all have our way of doing things and, of course, the other ways are wrong.

CC works. Not for me. But obviously for many. Why mess with what seems to be a sure thing; they are laughing all the way to the bank ... still.

 

How much longer do you expect Walmart to be open?

 

Ours is now open 24-hours, but you have to use the entry on the grocery side after 9 P.M....

That is Circus Circus.

If you've noticed, Vegas has sort of moved off the concept of implosions near entirely right now. They can reface and rebrand far cheaper. And with circus circus, even that won't be worth it. Its location pretty much sucks until Resorts World finished and something happens with Fontainebleau. So even a LINQ style reimagining probably won't help them command higher rates or fill the casino. So why spend?

It is making money and it is paid for. There is a reason it outlasted Sahara and Riviera

We almost always visit circus circus for a couple of hours. Been quite awhile since we skipped it.

It's not for everyone. But with it's overhead, it's definitely not going anywhere soon.

Thanks man, nice to be back! I after a long Vegas absence (I think its been over 2 years) I'm finally headed back in a few months. We still managed to hit Lake Charles and Shreveport/Bossier City every so often, but it isn't nearly as awesome as Vegas. Seems like forever since we played VP at Flamingo doesn't it?

 

I don't expect CC to go anywhere. It is what is it; it was of the same low standard it is today on my first visit 35 years ago. Even the buffet was notoriously bad then. The location isn't desirable for a "better" property and CC has it's target demographic. I suspect it will continue with if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

 

Trust but verify is one of my guiding principals, so when I realized I had enough comp dollars for dinner I decided to give it a try. The iced tea was great!

Last year this place generated $248 million in revenue, $62 million in EBIDTA, and a $10 million operating profit, so despite its lousy location, it's bountiful buffet of breaded deep fried mystery meat, and threadbare carpet, this red headed stepchild of MGM Resorts makes money.

Did you make it to The Steakhouse? If not, put it on your must do list next trip.

 

I think it will be there for years to come. It has it's niche... People that really don't care about the glitz of the strip and price is their main concern. Remember it has a campground.. That's really all you need to know.

 

Hopefully the owners will not make the same mistake the owners of The Stardust made.

Camping to me is Zion or Mt. Rainier. (Actually, these days camping is a Marriott because you can't find a Four Seasons.)

 

First hotel I ever stayed in Vegas was CC. It was 16 years ago and I was backpacking around the US. We had a budget of $90 a day and that was stretched thin in San Diego, LA, San Francisco but in Vegas we found hotel rooms for $30 a night. And after some of the complete dumps we stayed in during our time in the major cities CC was a palace. The room was big and clean. We couldn't believe our luck.

Having said all that we spent zero time on the property other than to sleep. Back then the casino was loud, noisy, crowded and unbearable. It was a good base for our first trip to LV. We would walk up and down the strip every night (we were younger and fitter then). I always have a place for CC in my heart because of that first trip but I have no desire to set foot in the place again.

Having said all that to answer original question - a very long time.
